The windshield wipers and washer on ly work
when the ignition is turned on.
To reduce the sensit iv ity of the sensor, move
switch @down . To increase the sens itiv ity,
move the switch up. The higher you adjust the
sens itivity, the faste r th e sensor will react
when it senses moisture on the w indshield.
The pauses between w iper turns depend not
on ly on the sensitivity setting, but on the ve

Du ring a temporary stop, e.g . at a t raff ic sig

duced by one stage.
When the igni tion is tu rned on, the washer

_& WARNING
- Wipe r blades a re cruc ial for safe driving!
Only when they are in good cond ition are
they able to clear the windows properly

It remains
entirely the d river 's responsibility to
mon itor outs ide weather conditions and
to manually activate the w ipers as soon

- T he windshie ld must not be treated with
water-repe llent materials. They can in
crease glare under poor visib ility condi

(D Note
In freezing or near freezing conditions:
- Always check that the w iper b lades are
not frozen to the g lass before you turn
the wipers on . Loosen a wiper blade
wh ich is frozen in place before operating
the wipers to prevent damage to the
w iper blade or the wiper motor.
- Do not use the w ipers to clear a frosted
window. Us ing the wipers as a conven
ient ice scraper will destroy the wiper
blades .
- Before you take your veh icle to an auto
matic car wash, make sure you have the
w indshield w iper system switched off
(lever in position 0), otherwise the w ind

the cond ition of your windsh ield wiper
blades regularly.

Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter (particle filter) ensures
that contaminants in the outside air (such as
dust or pollen) are greatly reduced or stop
ped. The air is also filtered in recirculation
mode.
The pollutant filter element must be changed according to the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule so that the air condi
tioning system's performance is not adversely
affected.
If the filter 's effectiveness is weakened by
driving the vehicle in areas with heavily pollut
ed outside air, the filter element should also
be changed between the listed services.
Energy management
To prevent the battery from being discharged
and to restore the balance of energy, compo
nents which require large amounts of energy
are temporarily cut back or switched
off
Warm and cold 73
i::> page 155. Heating systems in particular re
quire a great deal of energy. If you notice, for
example, that the rear window heater is not
heating, then it has been temporarily cut back
or switched
off by energy management.
These systems are available again as soon as
the energy balance has been restored .
A WARNING
For safety reasons, it is important that all
windows are free of ice , snow, and conden
sation . Only then is good visibility ensured.
Please familiarize yourself with the correct
operation of the air conditioning and how
to dehumidify/defrost the windows.
(D Note
- If you suspect that the climate controls
have been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid damaging it , and have it in
spected by an authorized Audi dealer.
- Audi climate control system repairs re quire special expertise and the proper
tools. You should contact an authorized
Audi dealer in the event of malfunctions.
(D Tips
-To avoid adversely affecting heating and
cooling performance and to prevent con
densation on the windows, the air intake
in front of the windshield must be free of
ice, snow, and leaves.
- Climate control works most effectively if
the windows are closed. However, if the
interior of a parked vehicle is extremely
hot from the sun's rays, briefly opening
the windows can speed up the cooling
process.

-Make sure your head or other parts of
your body are not located in the area
above the rollbar when pressing the roll

correctly,
it could deploy again as soon as
you release it and cause injuries.
- Have the rollover protection system
checked by your authorized Audi dealer if
it malfunctions. Otherwise the system
may not deploy correctly in a collision .
- Modifying the rollover protection system
or individual components is not permit
ted.
- Work on the rollover protection system
should only be performed by your au
thorized Audi dealer. Otherwise the sys
tem may not function correctly in a colli
sion or it could deploy unexpectedly.
- Have the system inspected at service in
tervals. This ensures the system will al
ways be ready for use. Have your author ized Audi dealer check the rollover pro
tection system every two years at the lat
est.
If the rollbars deploy when the convertible
top is closed, do not open the top. Doing so could result in damage to the vehicle.
Please see your authorized Audi dealer for
assistance.

A WARNING
Improperly worn safety belts increase the
risk of serious personal injury and death
whenever a vehicle is being used .

a correct seating position whenever the
vehicle is being used .
- Always read and heed all WARNINGS and other important information

Safety belt preten
sioners
How safety belt pretensioners work
In front, side and rear end collisions and in a
rollover above a particular severity, safety
belts in use are tensioned automatically.
The safety belts for the front seating positions
are equipped with safety belt pretensioners.
The system is activated by sensors in front,
side and rear-end collisions and in a rollover of
great severity . This tightens the belt and takes
up be lt slack ¢&.
in Service and disposal of
safety belt pretensioner on page 115.
Taking
up the slack helps to reduce forward occupant
movement during a collision .
(D Tips
The safety belt pretensioner can only be
activated once.
- In minor frontal and side collisions in
,
rear-end collisions and in accidents in
volving very little impact force, the safe
ty belt pretensioners are not activated.
- When the safety be lt pretensioner is ac
tivated, a fine dust is released . This is
normal and is not caused by a fire in the
vehicle.
- The relevant safety requirements must
be observed when the vehicle or compo-
Safety belts 115
nents of the system are scrapped. An au
thorized Audi dealer is familiar with
these regulations and will be pleased to
pass on the information to you.
- Be sure to observe all safety, environ
mental and other regulations if the vehi
cle or individual parts of the system, par
ticularly the safety belt or airbag, are to
be disposed . We recommend you have
your authorized Audi dealer perform this
service for you.
Service and disposal of safety belt
pretensioner
The safety belt pretensioners are parts of the
safety belts on your Audi. Installing, remov
ing, servicing or repairing of be lt pretension
ers can damage the safe ty belt system and
prevent it from working correctly in a colli
sion .
There are some important things you have to know to make sure that the effectiveness of
the system will not be impaired and that dis
carded components do not cause injury or pol
lute the environment.
A WARNING
Improper care, servicing and repair proce
dures can increase the risk of personal in
jury and death by preventing a safety belt
pretensioner from activating when needed
or activating it unexpectedly :
- The belt pretensioner system can be acti
vated only once. If belt pretensioners
have been activated, the system must be
replaced.
- Never repair, adjust, or change any parts
of the safety belt system.
- Safety belt systems including safety belt
pretensioners cannot be repaired. Spe
cial procedures are required for removal,
installation and disposal of this system.
- For any work on the safety be lt system,
we strongly recommend that you see

A WARNING
An airbag system that is not functioning
properly ca nnot provide supp lemental pro

- If the airbag indicator light comes on, it
means that there may be someth ing
wrong with the Advanced A irbag System .
It is possible that the airbag will inflate
when it is not s upposed to, or w ill not in

- Have the airbag system i nspected imme

A WARNING
If the front airbag inflates, a ch ild witho ut
a child restra int, or in a rearwa rd-fac ing
child sa fety seat, or in a forward- facing
child restraint that has not been prope rly
installed will be serious ly injured and can
be killed.
- Even though your ve hicle is equipped
with an Advanced Airbag System, make certain that a ll children, especially 12
years and younger, a lways ride proper ly
