Activating remote control key memory
To be able to recall the stored settings with the remote
control key, the function has to be activated in the radio
orMMI*.
- Select: Function button I CAR]> Seat adjustment>

Seat adjustments in MMI
The passenger's seat can be adjusted to various positions
by the driver.
Convenience side view
- Select: Function button I CAR]> Seat adjustment >
Passenger's seat
> Convenience side view.
- Continue to press the control knob until the adjustment
process is complete.
Seat symmetry
Select: Function button I CAR]> Seat adjustment>
Passenger's seat
> Seat symmetry.
- Continue to press the control knob until the adjustment
p rocess is complete.
Using the Convenience side view function, the passenger's seat is
adjusted so that the driver has the best possible view to the right .
When the Convenience side view is set, the specific position of the
driver's seat is taken into consideration.
Using the Seat symmetry function, the passeng er's seat can be
moved to the same position as the driver's seat . The settings for the
driver's seat are import ed and set automat ically.•

Energy management
To prevent the battery from being discharged and to restore the
balance of energy, components wh ic h require large amo unts of
energy are temporarily cut back or sw itched off=>
page 243. Heating
systems in part icu lar req uire a g rea t dea l of energy. If you notice, for
example, that the rear window heater is not heating, then it has been
temporar ily c ut back or switched off by
ene rg y management. These
systems are available again as soon as the energy balance has been
restored .

• To avoid adversely affecting heating and cooling performance and
to prevent condensation on the windows, the air intake in front of the
w indshield must be free of ice, snow and leaves.
• Th e air flowing out of the vents and througho ut the veh icle's
entire inter ior is discharged at the rea r of the vehicle . Make su re that
the o utlet s lots are not covered by clothing, etc.
• Climate control works most effective ly if the windows and the
panoramic sliding/tilt ing sunroof * are closed. However, if the interior
of a parked vehicle is extremely hot from the sun, briefly opening the
windows can speed up the cooling process. •

• Never leave children or per sons requiring a ssistan ce unat­
tended in the vehicle. The doors can be locked using the remote transmitter, p reventing people from escaping from the vehicle on
their own in the event of an emergency. Depending on the time of
year , people inside the vehicle can be e xposed to very high or very
low t emperatures .
• Never remove the ignition key from the ignition look while the
vehicle is moving. Otherw ise, the steering lock could suddenly
engage and you would not be able to steer the vehicle.

• Avoid high eng ine spee ds, fast a cce le ra ti on or heavy eng ine load s

To avoid unnecessary engine wear and to reduce exhaust emiss ions,

diately after starting your ve hicle . Maintain moderate speed unt il the
engine is complete ly warm . R emember, the engine per forms best at
operati ng temperature .

- Automatic transmission*: Move th e selector lever to t he P

-Press on the igni tion key. The e ngi ne is tu rned off .
Emergency off
If it i s n ecess ary in unusu al circum stances, the eng ine can be
switched of f while the vehicle is mov ing. The engine will be switched
o ff if you pres s on t he key fo r an e xtende d peri od.
& WARNING
• Never turn off the engine until the vehicle has come to a
complete stop.
• The brake booster and servotronic only work when the engine
is running. With the ignition turned off , you have to apply more
force when steering or braking. Since you cannot steer and stop
normally , this can lead to accidents and serious injuries .
• The radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10 minutes even
after you have turned off the engine and removed the ignition key.
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the engine coolant heat s
up because of intense sunlight or heat build-up in the engine
c ompartment.

• If the adaptive cruise control initiates brak ing, the hydraulic brake
system is under pressure . Therefore, the brake pedal distance is
shorter and the pedal "feels" harder .
• Adaptive cruise control is switched off after press ing the foot­
brake . The speed saved up this point can be resumed.
• To resume the saved speed, release the brake pedal and press the
control lever=>
page 126, "Turning adaptive cruise control off
temporarily ".
• If you use the accelerator to go faster than the speed of the object
ahead of you, the
driver intervention prompt will not be accompa­
nied by a warn ing signal.
• If the speed you previously set is exceeded, the indicator light in
the speedometer will switch off.•

Individual settings for adaptive cruise control can be
selected in the fv1fv1I*.
Settings for the driving program can be adjusted individually
to the particular user and saved in the MMI*.

Saving settings
Your individual settings are automatica lly saved and assigned to the
remote control key being used (remote key storage) . If the key is
given to another person, the saved settings remain as they are .•

General information
Some driving situations which affect the function of the
radar sensor are described below.
When driving, the adaptive cru ise contro l is governed by physical and
system-specified limits. Also, under certain circumstances, the ACC
system may react unexpectedly or late from the driver's point of view.
Therefore, a lways be attentive and intervene, if necessary:
• when driving around curves=>
page 134
• when vehicles in front are not in line with your vehicle=> page 134
• when other ve hicles are changing lanes=> page 134
• when other veh icles are difficult to detect=> page 135.
& WARNING
The radar sensor's vision can be reduced by rain, snow and heavy
spray . This can result in vehicles driving ahead being inadequately
detected or , in some circumstances , not detected at all. If neces­
sary, take action yourself!•

If the distance to an obstacle remains t he same, the vo lume of the
dis tan ce warn ing is gradu ally redu ced af ter abou t 4 seco nds.
Approaching another obstacle will result in the distance warning
s ou nding a t th e normal vo lume aga in.
Malfunctions in the system
If a wa rning tone is aud ible fo r about five seconds when you turn o n
the ignition , there is a ma lfunction in the system. Have the prob lem
c o rrected by yo ur auth orized Aud i de aler.
Keep the sensors in the rear bumper clean and free from ice so t hat
t he acous tic par k ass ist system can func tion prope rly.
& WARNING
• Sens ors have dead space s in whi ch objects cannot be dete cted.
Be especi ally alert for small children and animals , since they are
not alway s detected by the sen sors.
• The acou stic parking system is not a substitute for the dr iver 's
own caution and alertne ss. Ultimate respon sibility alway s
remains w ith the driver during parking and similar maneuvers.

• You should always adjust the volume and frequency of the
warning tone s so that you can e asily hear the acoustic di stan ce
wa rning e ven if the radio is pl aying, the air -conditioner blowe r is

vehicle before you.

Homelink®
Universal remote control

General information
The Homelink ® feature can learn up to three radio
frequency codes for most current transmitters used for
operating garage doors, estate gates , home or outdoor
lighting systems, and other devices.
Yo u must fi rst p rogr am the Home link® tra nsmi tte r be fore you can
use the system=>
page 167, "Programming the Homelink ® trans­
m itter".
In order to program the Homelink ® transm itter fo r devices utilizing
rolling code, a second person on a ladder who can sa fely reach t he
garage door opener motor is recommended. It is also necessary to
locate the "learn" button on yo ur garage door opener motor . Re fer to
t he oper ating ins truc tions fo r th e opene r, as the loca tion and color o f
this button may vary by manufacturer .
Yo u can still use the original remote control for the device at any
t ime .
& WARNING
• Never use the Homelink'"' transmitter with any garage door
opener that does have not the safety stop and rever se feature as
required by fed eral safety standards. This includes any garage
door opener model manufactured before April
l , 1982 .
• A garage door opener which cannot detect an object, signaling
the door to stop and reverse does not meet current federal safety
standards . Using a garage door opener without these features
increases risk of serious injury or death.

• For safety reasons never release the parking brake o r start the
engine while anyone i s standing in front of the vehicle .
• A ga rage door or an estate gate may sometimes be set in
motion when the Homelink ® remote control is being
programmed. If the device is repeatedly activated, this can over­

heated motor is a fi re hazard!
