Instruments and warning /indicator lights
The un its of measure (k ilomete rs/miles) can be changed in the MMI
or us ing the [
CAR] button on the r adio con trol.
Odometer /trip odometer
T he odomete r sh ows the tot al number of kilomete rs or mile s tha t
have been driven on the vehicle.
Th e tr ip odomete r shows the distance dr iven si nce it was last reset.
It
can be used to measure short d istances. The last d ig it shows
distances of 100 meters or 1/10 of a m ile.
Th e trip odome te r c an be reset to zero by pressi ng the reset bu tton
[O.O) ~ fig. 6.
Malfunction message
If there is a ma lf u nction somewhere in the instrument cluster, dEF
will appear in th e trip odomet er and w ill stay on. Conta ct you r au tho
rized Aud i dea le r to have the p roblem corrected.
Immobilizer
Whe n the ignition is switched o n, the data on the ignition key are
scanned automati cally.
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is display ed permanently in
t he o dome ter display field. The vehicle ca nnot be o per ated
~ page 38.
[ i ] Tips
• T he date, t ime, and distance continue to show for about 30
seconds after the igni tion is switched off .
• The odometer turns on for about 30 seconds w hen the driver's
door is opened.
• The odometer can be turned on for approximately 30 seconds
with the igni tion of f by pres sing the [S ET] button ~
page 9, fig. 3 . •

Driver information display
If a component is malfunctioning or if the need for an urgent repair
h as been de te cte d, th is will appea r in th e instrument clus ter display.
You will also hear an a udible warning to ne. The displays are color
coded in either red or yellow depend ing on their level of priority.
A red symbo l mea ns
Danger , a yellow symbo l ind icates Warning . In
certain situations, information message for the driver appear in addi
t ion to the red and yellow symbo ls.
T he Auto-Check Contro l w ill automatica lly perform a test each t ime
you switch on the ignition . With the selector lever in
P or N , the
following message appears in the d isplay:
When stationary apply footbrake while sele cting gear.
W hen you a se lec t a d iffe ren t gear ( for ex ample: R , D , etc .), t he
message w ill disappear a nd the Auto-Check function is d isplayed.
If t he re is a ma lfunction, then the malfunct ion message will appear
about
15 seco nds afte r you sta rt the veh icle . At the same t ime you
wi ll hear a warning tone. •
Driver information messages
Driver information messages are sho wn in th e instru
ment cluster display in addition to symbols .

For examp le , if the transmiss ion se lector lever is not in the P position
w hen the eng ine is tu rne d off, the following mess age appears :

tion . T hi s and other messages are brought up if a funct io n cannot be
c ar ried out.
Driver messages and red symbols
If a red symbo l appear s in the disp lay, a driver mess age is also
displayed automatically.
F or example, the symbo l for a prob lem w ith en gine oi l press ure

The d river mess age in the display goes out afte r abo ut 5 seconds. The
dr iver message can be displayed aga in by briefly pressing the
! SET ]

Driver messages and yellow symbols
If a yellow symbol appears in the di spla y, a drive r message is also
displayed automatically.
F or example, the symbo l.,,. appears in the dis play, i ndicating low
w indshield washer fl uid leve l. The following message also a ppears:
Please refill washer fluid
Th e dr iver mess age d isappears a fter a f ew seconds. The dr iver
message can be displayed again by briefly pressi ng the
(SET]
button .•
warning goes out after about S seconds, but it can be brought up at any time by pressing the !SETI button again
Defective ignition switch Get it serviced!
-Do not turn the engine off.
- Drive immed iately to an authorized service facility to have
the malfunction corrected.
If there is a malfunction in the electron ic ignition lock, the ignition
cannot be turned off . Drive immediately to an authorized service
facility to have the cause of the malfunction corrected.
On vehicles w ith convenience key *, the e ng ine should not be switched
off using the start/stop button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignit ion has been switched off.

The symbol's appearance might be d ifferent in some models. •

Driver information display
When a yellow warning symbol appears, one warning tone sounds. A
dr iver message appears as well to expla in the malfunction in more
detail. The driver warn ing goes out after about 5 seconds, but it can
be brought up at any time by pressing the
! SET] button again.
Check the function displayed as soon as possible . The yellow symbol
will not go out again until the reason for the malfunction has been
corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the symbols appear in
succession and remain for about 2 seconds.

1:.;,. Dynamic steering : Sy stem malfunct ion
Th is driver message and the symbol appear when a system
ma lfunction occurs dur ing trave l. Yo u can continue to dr ive carefully
at a reduced speed to a q ua lified workshop. Steering can be more difficult or sens
it ive than usua l. The steering wheel can a lso be at a n
ang le w hen d riving s traight .
Dynamic steering : initialization
If this driver message appears and the indicator light is f lash ing on
t he inst rument pane l, dynam ic steering is being reini tial ized . On ce
you start the engine after t his is finished , the steering wheel w ill be
e a sy to move. Re- ini tia lizat ion mig ht be necess ary if th e s teering
wheel was moved hard to the left and right while the veh icle was not
movi ng. The disp lay goes o ut as soon as initialization is complete .
& WARNING
Have the dynamic steering sy stem malfun ction repaired a s soon
as possible by an authorized Audi dealer or any qualified workshop
- risk of accident!

Thi s remin der appears along wi th the .... symbol if the maste r key is
removed from the vehicle with t he e ngine running . It is intended to
remind you (e.g. w hen c hanging dr ive rs) not to co ntinue t he journey
w ithout the master key.
If t he master key is no longer in t he ve hicl e, yo u can not swi tch off the
ign ition after stopping the engine and you also cannot start the
eng ine a gain. You also cannot lock the vehicle from the ou ts ide. •

You can centra lly lock and un lock your vehicle and start the engine
w ith the master key w ith remote cont ro l. A mecha nica l key is inte

@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for constan t use. It should on ly be
used in an emergency. Keep it in a safe place and do not car ry it on
your key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key, cont act your autho riz e d Audi de aler immedia tely to
have the
lost key d isab led. Be sure to bri ng all your keys with you.
Data in the master key
Dur ing d riving, service and maintenance-relevant data is cont in u
ously s tore d on yo ur ma ster key. Your Audi service adviser can re ad out this data a
nd tell you about th e wo rk your ve hicle needs. This
applies also to vehicles with convenience key*.
Personal comfort sett ings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recommended that each person
always uses "their own" mas ter key. When t he ignition is t urne d off
or when the vehicle is locked, pe rsonal convenience settings for the
followi ng systems a re stored and assig ned to the remote maste r key.

Th e s tored se ttings a re au toma ticall y recalled when you unlock t he
veh icle, when yo u ope n the doo rs o r whe n you turn on the ign ition.
& WARNING
• Do not leave your vehicle unattended with the key in the igni
tion lo ck . Entry by unauthorized per sons could endanger you or
result in theft or damage the vehicle. Always lock all doors and
take the key.
• Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle, especially with
acce ss to vehicle key s. Unguarded acce ss to the keys provides chil
d ren the opportunity to start the engine and/or activate vehicle
system s such as the power windows et c. Un supervised operation
of any vehicle system by children can result in serious injury .
• Do not remove the key from the ignition lock until the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. Otherwise the steer ing column lock
could suddenly engage -cau sing the ri sk of an accident.

(]] Tips
• The operation of the remote control key can be temporarily
d isrupted by interfe rence from transmitters in the v icinity of the
vehicle wo rking in the same frequency range (e.g. a cell phone, rad io
equipmen t) .
• If you open the dr ive r's doo r with the key left in the ignit ion lo ck,
a ch ime will sound . This is your reminder to remove the key and lock
the doo r.
• For security reasons, replacement keys are only available from
Audi dealers.

Check Light in the master key
The check li ght in the master key provides inform ation
about different conditions.

The check light comes on brief ly once when a button is p ressed, and
du ring an " inquiry" by the convenience key system.

If the check light does not come o n, the batte ry is dead and has to be
rep laced. In addi tion , when the batte ry is dead the • sym bol appears

We recommend having the battery changed by an authorized
Audi dealer . However , if you wish to rep lace the dead battery
yourse lf, proceed as follows :

-Pull the mechanical key ® out of the master key.
- Press the release button©=>
page 39, fig. 28 on the
battery holder and at the same time pull the battery
holder out of the master key in the direction of the arrow.
- Install the new battery CR 2032 with the"+" sign facing
down.
- Push the battery holder carefully into the master key.
- Install the mechanical key.
<£> For the sake of the environment
Dispose of dead batteries properly so as not to pollute th e environ
ment.

Th e replacement battery must be the same specification as the
original. •

Emergency unlocking of the ignition key
In the event of malfunctions in the electrical system, it
may happen that you cannot remove the ignition key.

If you are unable to remove the ignition key, for example
because the vehicle battery is discharged, proceed as follows:
- Press the release button©=> fig. 30 for example with a
ball point pen and pull the mechanical key ® out of the
master key.
- Lock the vehicle using the mechanical key=>
page 45.
-Have the electrical system inspected by an authorized Audi
dealership. •
