Storing the maximum speed
- Drive at the desired maximum speed.

Resetting the maximum speed
- Drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 3 mph (5 km/h)
- Press the knob for more than 2 seconds.
The speed warning symbo l (USA models) /') (Canada models) will
appear briefly in the display when you release the button to indicate
that the maximum speed has been stored successfully .
The maximum speed remains stored until it is changed by pressing the button again briefly or until it is deleted by a lengthy push on the
button. •

To store maximum speed
- Turn off the ignition.
- Briefly press the button in the instrument cluster

- Press the button for at least 2 seconds. The currently
stored maximum speed appears in the display

crossed out symbol for warning threshold 2, if no maximum speed was set previously .
- Press the function selector switch in the wiper lever@
=> fig. 23 up or down to change the set value . Values run
up or down in steps of 6.2 mph (10 km/h).
To delete maximum speed
- Turn off the ignition.

When a red symbo l appears , a warn ing tone will sound three t imes in
succession. The symbo l continues to flash until the malfunction has
bee n repaired. If there is
more than one malfunction , the symbols
appear one after the other for about two seconds.

When a yellow symbol appears, a warning tone will sound once.
Check the displayed function as soon as possible . If more than one
malfunction is detected, all symbols will appear one after the other
for about two seconds .•

In addition to the warning/indicator lights and the
symbols in the instrument cluster display, driver informa
tion is displayed .

The driver message in the display goes out afte r about 5 seconds. You
can display the driver message again by br iefly pressing the button .•

Brake system malfunction

The indicator light flashes if the brake fluid level is too
low , if there is a malfunction in the ABS system or when
the parking brake is engaged.
If the BRAKE /((D) symbol flas hes in the display wit h the
parking brake released, there is a malfunction in the brake
system. In addition to the symbol, o ne of two messages
appears in the display:
Stop vehicle and check brake fluid
ABS fault ! See owner's manual
- Pull off the road and sto p the ve hicle.
- Obtain professio nal assistance .
USA models: if there is a ma lfunct io n in the ABS system, the/.
w ar ning/ind ica tor ligh t illum inates along wi th the BRAKE system
ma lf u nction warning/indicator light~&.
Canada models: if there is a malfu nction in the ABS system, the
wa rning/ind icator ligh t illuminates togethe r with the ((i)) bra ke
system malfunction warn ing/indicator light~& .
Parking brake set
T he parking bra ke warning light Brake/((i)) (Canada mo dels) ill umi
nates when the pa rking brake is set. In addit ion, a warning tone will
so und after yo u have driven for longer than 3 secon ds and faster than
3 mph (5 km/h).
& WARNING
• Always observe the warning s in ~ page 218 , "Engine compart
ment" , before opening the engine hood and checking the brake
fluid.

• Driving with low brake fluid i s a safety hazard! Stop the car and
get profe ssional assistance .
• If the brake sy stem warning/indicato r light illuminates
together with the ABS warning /indicator light, then th e ABS
system is malfunctioning. The rea r wheels could quickly lock up
when you apply the brakes . Th is could lead to lo ss of control and
your vehicle could slide! Dri ve carefully to the nea rest authorized
Audi dealer and hav e the malfunction corrected. •
Engine cooling system malfunction _L
A malfunction in the engine cooling system must be
rep aired as s oon as possible .
When t he -L symbol in th e d isplay flashes , then either the
engine coolant
temperature is too h igh , or the coolant level
is too low. In add it ion to the symbol , the fo llow ing message
also appears i n the d isplay:
Switch off engine and check coolant level
- Pull off th e road and stop the v ehicle.
- Tur n off the engine .
- Chec k coo lant level~

Driver information display
Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you when a vehicle
light bul b has become defective .
If a defective bu lb has been detected by the system or a light bulb
burns ou t, the symbo l w ith a message appea rs in the display to te ll
you which bulb is burnt out and where it is located. For example:
Rear left turn signal
After 5 seconds, the message d isappears . If you want to recall the
message into t he disp lay, press the CHECK button ::::,

There are three reasons w hy the defective bulb message would
appea r in the d ispl ay :
• The light bulb has burnt out::::,

• The wire connect io n to the light bulb is defective.

• Work with due care when handling the high-voltage section of

Light/rain sensor defective
The indicator light indicates a defec t in the automatic
headlights/automatic wi per system.
If the symbo l ill umina tes, the ligh t se nso r has failed. Fo r safety
reasons, the low beams are turned on permanen tly with the sw itch in
AUTO . However, you can continue to t urn the lights on and off using
the light sw itch . In the case of a defec t in the ra in se nsor, the wi nd
shield wiper lever functions are still avai lab le . Have the light/rain
s ensor che cked as soon a s poss ible at an a uth oriz e d Au di dea le r.•

All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the central locking system
when you lock the vehicle.
The unlock ing and locking mode* can be changed in the driver infor
mation system~

Unlocking the vehicle
You can unlock the vehicle from outside either by using the remote
control
or by inserting and turning the key in the driver's door lock .
When you
unlock your vehicle:
• Th e anti-theft alarm system is deactivated briefly.
• The vehicle interior lights illuminate for approximately 30
seconds .
• All turn signa l lights will flash twice when the car is unlocked .
• After unlocking the vehicle, you have 30 seconds to open a door or
the rear lid. Afte r 30 seconds, the vehicle automatica lly locks and the
anti-theft alarm system activates again.
The rear lid can be locked or unlocked either by using the remote
control or by inserting and turning the key in the dr iver's door lock.
Unlocking the vehicle with the remote control~ will only
unlock the
rear lid, to
open it, the lid handle needs to be pressed.
Locking the vehicle
You can lock the vehicle from outside either by using the remote
control
or by inserting and turning the key in the drivers's door lock.
When you
lock the vehicle:
• All doors and the rear lid are locked.
• All turn signal lights will flash once when the car is locked.
• Th e anti-theft alarm system is activated. The horn of the anti
theft alarm system will sound and the anti-theft alarm system readi
ness light, located in the center of the instrument panel below the
windshield on the right side of the air vent, will start to blink.
• Th e vehicle interior lights turn off.

The automatic locking feature locks all the vehicle doors and the rear
lid when you drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
You can unlock the vehicle from the inside by:
• removing the key from the ignition switch (the vehicle wi ll auto
matically unlock itself) or
• pressing the unlock part of the power lock switch
ll::D or
• pulling the inside handle for that door (once - the front door is
unlocked and opened at the same time, twice to open the rear door).
If you wish, you can have an authorized Audi dealer convert your
power door lock system to automatic locking.
& WARNING
• When you lock your vehicle from outside, nobody· especially
children - should remain inside the vehicle. Remember, when you
lock the vehicle from the outside the windows cannot be opened
from the inside .
• When you leave the vehicle, always remove the ignition key
and take it with you. This will prevent passengers (children, for
example) from accidentally being locked in the vehicle should
they accidentally press the power locking switch on the center
console.
• Do not leave children inside the vehicle unsupervised. In an
emergency it would be impossible to open the doors from the
outside without the key.

• In the event of a crash with airbag deployment all locked doors
will be automatically unlocked to give access to the vehicle occupants
from the outside .
• If the power locking system sho uld fail, you can still open the fuel
tank flap in an emergency~

The w indshield wipe rs an d washer only wo rk when the igni tion is
tur ned on. If you switch off t he ig nition w ith the winds hield wiper
lever st ill in the inte rval wipe pos it ion and then come back a wh ile
later and drive off , the ra in sensor wi ll reactivate itself after the
vehicle speed has exceeded 4 mph (6 km/ h).
The r ain senso r* is only activated with the wipe r lever set to position
@ . When it starts to rain, the rain sensor will automatically act ivate
t he in term itte nt w ip ing mode .
To red uce the sensit iv ity of the sensor, move sw itch @dow n. To
increase the sensitivity, move the switch up. The higher you adjust the
sensitivity, the faster the sensor will react when it senses moistu re on
the windshield .
Th e rain senso r wipe r inte rvals dep end on the sensi tivi ty set ting a s
well as veh icle speed. During brief stops , wiper motion will ad just in
re lation to the amoun t of rain on the w indshield.
Automatic wiper/was her: To eliminate water droplets, the wind
shield wiper pe rforms one afterwipe operation after severa l secon ds w
hile driv ing. You can switch this funct ion off by moving the lever to
posi tion ® within 10 seco nds of the afterw ipe o per ation . T he afte r
w ipe funct ion is reactivated the next time the ignition is switc h.
When the ignition is turned on, the washer jets are heated *.
& WARNING
• Wiper bl ades are crucial for safe driving! Only when they are in
good condition are they able to cl ear the windows properly to
pro vide uncompromised vi sibility. Worn or damaged wiper bl ade s
are a safety hazard=>
page 69, "Replacing front w iper blades"!
• The light/rain sensor* is only designed to assist and support
the driver. It remains entirely th e driver's responsibility to
monitor outs ide weather condit ions and to manually ac tivate the
wip ers as soon as rain or dr izzle reduces visibility through the
windshield.
• The windshield must not be treated with water-repellent
mater ial s. They can increase glare under poor visibility conditions
such as wetness, darkness, or when the sun is low on the horizon.
In addition , they can cause the windshield wipers to chatter.
0 Note
• In the case of frost, check whether the windshield wiper blades are
fro zen to the windsh ie ld. Switching on t he w indshield wipe rs can
damage the wiper blades!
• Do not use the wipers to clear a frosted w indow . Using the wipe rs
as a convenient ice scraper will destroy the wiper blades.
• Prior to us ing a car was h, the winds hield wiper system must be
sw itched off (lever in posit io n 0). This helps to prevent unintentional
switching on and demage to t he windshield woper sys tem. ..,.
