Driver information display
When a yellow symbol appears, a warning tone will sound once.
Check the displayed function as soon as possible . If more than one
malfunction is detected, all symbols will appear one after the other
for about two seconds .•
Driver information
In addition to the warning/indicator lights and the
symbols in the instrument cluster display, driver informa
tion is displayed .

In addition, driver information may appear when a red symbol flashes
in the driver disp lay.

As an example, the~ symbol appears in the display . If you now
press the button => fig. 24, the following driver message appears in
the disp lay:
Switch off engine and check oil level
The driver message in the display goes out afte r about 5 seconds. You
can display the driver message again by br iefly pressing the button .•

Engine oil specifications
The engine oil used in your Audi needs the right kind of oil.
The engine in your Audi is a sophisticated powe rp lant t hat was buil t
to exacting spec ifications . Th is engine needs the r ight kind of engine
oil that meets specifications regarding quality and viscosity so that it
can run smoo thly a nd reliably . Choosing the right o il and chang ing oi l
w ith in the time and mileage intervals printed in your vehicle 's
W arranty
& Mainte nance booklet ma tters a lot more today than i t did
years ago. Audi has developed a special quality standard for eng ine oil
t ha t wi ll help assure tha t your veh icle's engi ne will get t he lubri cat io n
it needs for proper operation .
Modern engine lu brication has take n a quantum leap in the last few
years . Many synt het ic oils available today provide be tte r engine lub ri
cation that can outlast tradit ional petro leum-based oi ls, making
t hem a smart choi ce fo r use througho ut the life of your Aud i.
Whether you use synthetic or petroleum-based engine oil, the oil that
you use mus t conform to A udi's oil quality standard VW 5 02 00 (veh i
cles wit h gasoline eng ine) and VW 507 00 (vehicle with diese l
eng ine) to help keep your ve hicle's engine runn ing smooth ly and help ..,

the eng ine battery charged bette r then vehicles withou t this system .
To make sure the additional electrical energy is available o nce again
after you have changed the battery, we recommend t hat you install
batteries of the same type and manufacture only (the same as those
installed at the time your vehicle was delivered). Specif ications are
listed on the batte ry ho using. Your authorized dealer must code the
battery in the energy management system to enable you to use the
ene rgy management functions correct ly after replacing the battery.
If it is not poss ible to use a battery of this type, the new battery must
have the same capacity, voltage (12 volts), amperage, construct ion
and plug sealing.

batteries that conform to the standards TL 82S 06
(from December 1997) and
VW 7 50 73 (from August 2001).
When installing the battery, make sure the ignition and all electrical
consumers are turned off.

original opening on the battery side . Otherwise gasses or battery acid
co uld leak out.
• Battery mounts and clamps must a lways be secured correctly.

Because of the problem of proper disposal of a battery, we recom
mend your authorized Audi dealer change the battery for you.
Batteries contain sulfuric acid and lead and must always be d isposed
of prope rly in compliance with all env ironmenta l regulatio ns.
Disposing of vehicle batteries improperly is very dangerous to the
environment . M ake sure that the removed battery cannot overbal
ance, otherw ise sulfur ic acid might escape! •

- Before you ch eck anythin g in t he e ngine compartment,
always
read and heed all WARNINGS=> & in "Working in
the e ng ine compartment" on
page 226.
- Lift t he fi ller cap tongue to add washer fluid. You can fill
th e container to the top.
- Press the cap back onto the filler neck after filling the
container.
You can find the reservoir capacity in the table in=> page 296.
Clean water should be used when fi lling up. If possible, use soft water
to prevent scaling on the washer jets . Always add a glass cleaner solu-
tion (with frost protection in the winter).
