Shifting down gears
– Press the left rocker switch page 139, fig. 139 for the multifunction steering
wheel.Temporarily switching over to manual shifting– If the selector lever is in position D or S, press the left rocker switch or the right
rocker switch for the multifunction steering wheel.
– If the rocker switches or are not pressed for some time, the manual shifting switches off. You can also switch off the temporary switch over to manual shifting
by pressing the right rocker switch for more than 1 second.Emergency programme
An emergency programme exists in th e event of a fault in the system.The gearbox operates in a corresponding emergency programme if there are func-
tional faults in the gearbox electronics. This is indicated by all of the segments in the
display lighting up or going out.
A functional fault can have the following effect:
The gearbox only shifts into certain gears.

The reverse gear R cannot be used.

The manual shift programme (Tiptronic) is switched off in the emergency mode.
If the gearbox has switch ed over to emergency mode, drive to the nearest
specialist garage in order to have the fault rectified.
Selector lever-emergency unlocking (DSG)Fig. 140 Selector lever-emergency unlockingIn case of interruption of the power supply (e.g. flat vehicle battery, defective fuse) or
defect of the selector lever lock, the select or lever can no longer be shifted from the
position P in the normal way and the vehicle ca n no longer be moved. The selector
lever must be unlocked in case of emergency.
– Apply the handbrake firmly.
– Grasp the selector lever cover at the points of the arrows fig. 140 and care-
fully pull it upwards.
– The cover can also be unlocked on the other side.
– Use a finger to press the yellow pl astic part in direction of arrow .
– Simultaneously press the shiftlock button in the handle of the selector lever and
shift the lever into the position N (if the selector lever is shifted again into the posi-
tion P, it is once again blocked).Tow-starting and towing vehicle Tow-starting a vehicle
It is not possible to tow-start ve hicles fitted with automatic gearbox page 242.
you can use jump-start cables connected to the battery of another vehicle for starting
your car if the vehicle battery is flat page 241.

Fuses and light bulbsElectric fusesReplacing fuses in the dash panel
Defect fuses must be replaced.Individual electrical circuits are protected by fuses. The fuses are located on the left
side of the dash panel behind the safety cover and under the cover in the engine
compartment on the left.
– Switch the ignition off and also the electrical component affected.
– Use a screwdriver to take off the fuse cover on the side of the dash panel fig. 205
or the fuse cover in the engine compartment page 247, fig. 206 .
– Find out which fuse belongs to the relevant component page 249, “Fuse assign-
ment in the dash panel”, page 247, “Fuse assignment in engine compartment -
version 1” or page 248, “Fuse assignment in engine compartment - version 2”.
– Take the plastic clip out of it s fixture in the fuse cover, insert it onto the respective
fuse and pull out this fuse.
– Defect fuses can be detected by their melted metal strips. Replace the defect fuse by a new fuse of the same ampere number.
– Fit on the fuse cover again. We recommend that you always have the
small box of replacement fuses in your
vehicle. You can obtain replacement fuses from the range of Škoda original parts or
from a specialist garage

Colour coding of fuses
Caution

Never attempt to “repair” fuses and also do not replace them with a fuse of a higher
amperage - risk of fire! This may also caus e damage at another part of the electrical
system.

Have the electrical system checked as quickly as possible by a specialist garage if a
newly inserted fuse blows again after a short time.

Fuse cover in engine compartment
The fuse box in the engine compartment exists in two different versions.
You can determine which version your vehicle is fitted with after
removing the fuse cover at the location of the fuses.On some vehicles, the battery cover must be removed before removing the fuse cover
 page 222.Removing fuse cover– Move the circlips fig. 206 as far as the stop, the symbol
 appears behind the
circlip and remove the cover.
Installing fuse cover– Position the fuse cover on the fuse box and push the circlips as far as the stop -
the symbol
 is visible behind the circlip.
Caution

When unlocking and locking the fuse cover, it must be pressed on the sides to the
box, otherwise damage can occur to the locking mechanism.

Carefully position the fuse cover in the engine compartment. If the cover was not
correctly positioned, water can get into the fuses and this results in a damage to the
vehicle!

Electrically adjustable seats are protected by
automatic circuit breakers, which
switch on again automatically after a few seconds after the overload has been
eliminated.
BulbsChanging bulbsThe relevant lamp must always be switch ed off before a light bulb is replaced.
Defect light bulbs should only be replaced with light bulbs of the same type. The desig-
nation is located on the ligh t socket or the glass bulb.
Changing certain bulbs is not something whic h you can do yourself, but requires to be
done by a specialist. Other parts of the vehicle must be removed in order to change the
light bulbs. This applies, in particular, to bulbs which can only be reached from the
engine compartment.
We therefore recommend that you have an y bulbs changed by an authorised Škoda
Service Partner or, in exceptional cases, by calling on other professional assistance.
Please note that the engine compartment is a hazardous area page 216, “Working
in the engine compartment”.
We recommend that you always have a small box of replacement bulbs in your vehicle.
You can purchase replacement bulbs from th e range of the Škoda original accessories 18). A stowage place for the bulbs is located in the box in the spare wheel.
Fitted with a xenon headlight
Change of bulbs on vehicles with Xenon lights (low beam lights, parking lights and
main beam lights) should be undertaken by a specialist garage.

– For the installation, first of all insert the fog light with the interlock to the side far
away from the marking of the vehicle.
– Press into place the headlight onto the si de facing the marking. The spring bolt
must engage firmly.
– In order to reinstall the cover, first of all insert one part of the cover starting on the side facing the fog light. Then press the cover closed on the side facing the marking.
The cover must engage firmly.

unitRemove and install the outer part of the rear light unit– Switch the ignition and all lights off.
– Open the boot lid.
– Take out the plugs fig. 214 - left and unscrew the rear light unit using a torx
wrench

– Carefully take out the lamp. Do not pull the grommet with the cables out of the
body. – To re-insert the rear light unit, first of all guide it with the support
fig. 215
towards the front onto a bolt on the bodywork.
– Carefully press the rear li ght unit into the bodywork.
– Screw the rear light unit tight and press in the plugs fig. 214 - left.
Remove and install the inner part of the rear light unit– Switch the ignition and all lights off.
– Open the boot lid.
– Take off the cover of the rear light unit on the inner side of the bonnet lid fig. 214
- right.
– Press the spring bolt fig. 214 - right and take the lamp holder out of the housing
of the rear light unit.
– To re-insert the lamp holder, guide it into the housing of the rear light unit.
– Press onto the spring bolt until it is heard to lock.
– Guide the cover of the rear light unit into the inner side of the bonnet lid.
Caution
When removing and installing the rear ligh t unit make sure not to damage the paint-
