When the indicator light does not light upon pushing a button, the batteries
of the vehicle key must be changed Ÿpage 81.
Changing the battery
SEAT recommend having the batteries changed in a qualified workshop.
The battery is located to the rear of the vehicle key, under a cover Ÿfig. 44.
When changing the battery, use another battery of the same model and
observe the polarity when fitting it Ÿ.
To change the battery
xUnfold the key shaft Ÿpage 79.
xRemove the cover from the back of the vehicle key Ÿfig. 44 in the direc-
tion of the arrow Ÿ.
xExtract the battery from the compartment using a suitable thin object
Ÿfig. 45.
xPlace the new battery in the compartment, pressing in the direction of the
arrow as shown Ÿfig. 45 Ÿ.
xFit the battery compartment cover, pressing in the direction of the arrow
as shown Ÿfig. 44 until it clicks into place.

xIf the battery is not changed correctly, the vehicle key may be damaged.
xUse of unsuitable batteries may damage the vehicle key. For this reason,
always replace the dead battery with another of the same voltage, size and
specifications.
For the sake of the environment
Please dispose of your used batteries correctly and with respect for the envi-
ronment.
For the sake of the environment
The vehicle key battery may contain perchlorate. Observe the legal require-
ments for their disposal.
To synchronise the vehicle key
If the button is pressed frequently outside of the vehicle range, it is
possible that the vehicle can no longer be locked or unlocked using the key.
In this case, the vehicle key must be synchronised once more as follows:
xUnfold the key shaft Ÿpage 79.
xRemove the cover from the driver's door handle Ÿpage 348.
xPress the button on the vehicle key. For this, it must remain with the
vehicle.
xOpen the vehicle within one minute using the key shift.
xTurn on the ignition using the vehicle key. The key has been synchronised.
xReplace the driver's door handle cover.

Central locking and locking system
Introduction
Central locking functions correctly when all the doors and the tailgate are
correctly shut. If the driver's door is open, the vehicle cannot be locked with
the key.
The battery of a vehicle left unlocked during a long period (for instance, in a
private garage) may run down and fail to start the motor.

WARNING
The incorrect use of the central locking system may cause serious injuries.
xThe central locking system will lock all doors. A vehicle locked from the
inside can prevent any non-authorised individual from opening the doors
and accessing the vehicle. Nevertheless, in case of emergency or accident,
locked doors will complicate access to the passenger compartment to help
the passengers.
xNever leave children or disabled people alone in the vehicle. The central
locking button can be used to lock all the doors from within. Therefore,
passengers will be locked inside the vehicle. Individuals locked in the
vehicle can be exposed to very high or very low temperatures.
xDepending on the time of the year, temperatures inside a locked and
closed vehicle can be extremely high or extremely low resulting in serious
injuries and illness or even death, particularly for young children.
xNever leave individuals locked in a closed and locked vehicle. In case of
emergency, they may not be able to exit the vehicle by themselves or get
help.

Description of the central locking system
The central locking system allows all doors and the tailgate to be locked and
unlocked centrally.
xFrom outside, using the vehicle key.
xFrom inside, by pushing the central locking button Ÿpage 85.
In the submenu Convenience in the Configuration menu, or by visiting a
specialized workshop, special functions of the central locking system can be
switched on or off Ÿpage 70.
In case of a vehicle key fault or central locking system fault, all doors can be
locked or unlocked manually.
Locking the vehicle after the airbags have been deployed
If the airbags are deployed due to an accident, the vehicle will be automati-
cally and completely unlocked. Depending on the amount of damage, the
vehicle can be locked following an accident in the following ways:

submenu Convenience, you may push the button twice Ÿpage 70 to
unlock all doors and the tailgate.
The vehicle key only locks and unlocks the vehicle if it is within range of the
vehicle and if the batteries have enough power. When locking, the vehicle's
indicators will blink.
If the driver's door is open, the vehicle cannot be locked with the key. If you
unlock the vehicle without opening any doors or the tailgate, it will lock again
automatically after a few seconds. This function prevents the vehicle from
remaining unlocked if the unlocking button is pressed by mistake.

Locking and unlocking the vehicle from the inside
The central locking button is still operative when the ignition is switched off.
The central locking button is only deactivated if the "Safe" security system is
activated Ÿpage 88.
Please note the following when you use the central locking button to lock your
vehicle:
xDo not turn on the "Safe" security system Ÿpage 88.
xDo not turn on the antitheft alarm.
xIt will not be possible to open the doors or the tailgate from the outside
this may offer extra safety, when stopped at traffic lights for example.

xThe doors can be opened and unlocked individually from the inside by
pulling the inside door handle. If necessary, pull the door release lever twice.
xThe driver's door cannot be locked when it is still open. This avoids
locking the vehicle key inside the vehicle when there is nobody inside.
Locking and unlocking the vehicle with KESSY*
KESSY is a locking and unlocking system that can be used to lock and unlock
the vehicle without actively using the key. To do this, a valid vehicle key only
has to be in the vehicle approach zone Ÿ.
Important
When there is a valid vehicle key in the approach zone (Ÿfig. 49) of a door
or the tailgate, the KESSY locking and unlocking system detects a request to
enter the vehicle. The system checks the access rights and allows the
following functions without active use of the key:
x"Keyless-Entry": Unlocks the handles of the four doors and the tailgate
release button.
x"Keyless-Go": Starts the engine for driving. To do this, a valid vehicle key
only has to be inside the vehicle.
x"Keyless-Exit": locks the vehicle using the driver's side or passenger-side
door handle.
The central locking and locking systems operate in the same way with the
actual locking and unlocking system. Only the controls change.

they blink once.
If you unlock the vehicle without opening any doors or the tailgate, it will lock
again automatically after a few seconds.
Unlocking and opening the doors
xTake the handle of the corresponding door and touched the outside
button.
xDoor open.
Closing and locking the doors
xClose the driver's door.
xPress on the outermost button of the passenger or driver's side door
(Ÿpage 86, fig. 50 arrow) once. The vehicle locks with the "Safe" security
system Ÿpage 88. The door being operated must be closed.
xOperate the outermost button on the driver's or passenger door handle
twice to lock the vehicle without the "Safe" security system.
Locking and unlocking the tailgate
If the vehicle key is within the tailgate approach zone (Ÿpage 86, fig. 49)
this will be automatically unlocked when opened.
xOpen and close the tailgate normally Ÿpage 97.
The tailgate locks automatically after it is closed when there is no vehicle key
inside the vehicle.
Locking using the second vehicle key
If there is a key inside the vehicle, this can only be locked from the outside if
a second is key is detected in the approach zone outside the vehicle.
Automatically turning off sensors
When the vehicle is not locked or unlocked for a long period of time then the
approach sensors for the passenger door and rear doors are turned off auto-
matically.When the outside button of the door handle is repeatedly pressed while the
vehicle is locked, for example due to contact with the branches of a tree, all
of the exterior buttons on the side of the vehicle affected will be turned off for
30 minutes. If the only button affected is the driver's door button, only this
button is turned off.
The sensors are turned on again:
xAfter 30 minutes.
xALTERNATIVELY: The vehicle is unlocked using the remote control on
the key.
xALTERNATIVELY: The tailgate is opened.
Convenience functions
xFor convenience locking of all electric windows and the panorama sliding
sunroof, press and hold the button on the outside door handle for more than
two seconds.
xRelease the button to interrupt the function. Pushing the button immedi-
ately after releasing it will open all of the electric windows (safety function)
’ Ÿpage 102.
When a door is opened using the door handle, all of the settings activated in
the menu Configuration – Convenience Ÿpage 70 will be applied.
Caution
A strong jet of steam or water can activate a proximity sensor if a valid vehicle
key is within the approach zone. If at least one of the electric windows is open
and the sensor is triggered several times, convenience locking will begin. If
the jet of steam or water is stopped briefly and then directed at one of the
sensors again, it is possible that all of the windows will open Ÿpage 87,
“Convenience functions”.

Note
If the vehicle battery or the battery in the vehicle key is flat, it is possible that
the vehicle cannot be locked or unlock using the KESSY system.
"Safe" security system
When the vehicle is locked, the "Safe" security system deactivates the door
handles and the central locking button making the vehicle difficult to open.
The doors cannot be opened from inside Ÿ.
When the "Safe" security system is turned off:
xThe vehicle can be opened and unlocked from the inside using an inside
door handle.
xThe vehicle may be unlocked from the inside by pushing the central
locking button.
xThe anti-theft alarm will be activated.
xThe vehicle interior monitoring system and the anti-tow system are deac-
tivated.Driver's door indicator light.
WARNING
Careless use of the "Safe" security system can cause serious injury.
xNever leave anybody inside the vehicle if this is locked using the key.
When the "Safe" security system is activated, doors cannot be opened
from the inside.
xWhen the doors are locked, it is difficult to get to passengers in the
passenger compartment in case of an emergency. Passengers could remain
trapped inside in case of emergency.
Antitheft alarm
The anti-theft alarm makes it more difficult to break into the vehicle or steal it.
The antitheft alarm is automatically turned on when the vehicle is locked with
the key.
