With the key in the ignition on or start-
ing position, operate the relevant
switch.
T h e r e a r c o u r t e s y l a m p c o m e s o n

unlocking the vehicle or on opening
one of the doors.
It gradually goes off after the ignition
has been switched on or the vehicle
is locked.
Pressing switch 1 turns on the rear
c o u r t e s y l a m p .

Automatic operation of hazard
warning lamps
When braking in an emergency, de-
pending on the deceleration, the
hazard warning lamps come on au-
tomatically. They switch off automati-
c a l l y t h e fi r s t t i m e y o u a c c e l e r a t e .
It is also possible to switch them off by
pressing the button.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAMME (ESP)
This system is linked and complemen-
tary to the ABS system.
I n t h e e v e n t o f a s i g n i fi c a n t v a r i a t i o n
between the trajectory of the vehicle
and the path required by the driver,
the ESP monitors wheel by wheel and
acts automatically on the engine and
on the brake of one or more wheels, to
put the vehicle back on course, within
the limit of the laws of physics.
ESP operation The indicator lamp comes on. Disarming the ESP
In exceptional conditions (starting the
vehicle when it is stuck in the mud,
immobilised in snow, on unstable
ground...), it may be advisable to dis-
arm the ESP.
Press the "ESP OFF" switch, lo-
cated on the centre console.
The switch lights up and the warning
light comes on: the ESP no longer acts
on the operation of the engine.
Instrument panel indicator
light.
The system is triggered again:
automatically if the ignition is
switched off,
automatically above 30 mph (50 km/h),
manually by pressing the switch
again.

SEAT BELTS
Detection of fastening of the front
seat belts
When the ignition is switched on , if a
front passenger has not fastened their
seat belt and if the vehicle speed is below
12 mph (20 km/h) , you are warned by
lighting of the seat belt warning lamp .
The warning lamp switches off when
the seat belt(s) concerned is(are) fas-
tened.
If the vehicle speed is above 12 mph
(20 km/h) , y o u a r e w a r n e d b y fl a s h -
ing of the seat belt warning lamp ,
an audible signal and a message on
the multifunction screen identifying the
unfastened seat belt(s).
Front seat belts with
pre-tensioner and force
limiter
In the event of a serious front impact,
the pre-tensioning system instantly
t i g h t e n s t h e s e a t b e l t s fi r m l y a g a i n s t
the bodies of the occupants.
The pre-tensioning seat belts are
armed when the ignition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt against the chest of
the occupant, so increasing his pro-
tection.
Rear seat belts
T h e r e a r s e a t s a r e a l l fi t t e d w i t h a
three-point inertia reel seat belt.
The rear side seat belts have a force
l i m i t e r a n d m a y b e fi t t e d w i t h a p r e -
tensioning inertia reel.
To fasten the seat belts
Pull the strap, then insert the
tongue into the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is secured
correctly by pulling the strap.
To unfasten the seat belts
Press the red button on the buckle. Before folding the seat back, pull the
strap and insert the seat belt tongue
into the buckle. This precaution will
ensure that each seat belt is in place
when the rear seats are lifted again.
Note: a bag or an animal
placed on the front passenger
seat may cause illumination of
the warning lamp.
The audible signal ceases and the
warning lamp switches off when the
seat belt concerned is fastened.
After two minutes without any action
o n t h e s e a t b e l t s , t h e fl a s h i n g w a r n i n g
lamp remains on permanently and the
audible signal ceases. All of the warn-
ings cease when a door is opened or
when the engine is switched off.
Front seat belt height adjustment :
To lower the attachment point,
squeeze control 1 and slide it
downwards.
To raise the attachment point, slide
control 1 upwards.

AIRBAGS
The airbags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger) in the event of violent col-
lisions. They supplement the action of
the force-limiting seat belts.
In this case, the electronic detectors
record and analyse the front and side
impacts suffered in the impact detec-
tion zones:
- in the event of a serious impact, the airbags are deployed instanta-
neously and protect the occupants
of the vehicle (with the exception
of the rear centre passenger); im-
mediately after the impact, the air-
b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y s o t h a t t h e y d o
not hinder the visibility of the oc-
cupants or their possible exit from
the vehicle,
- in the event of a minor impact or rear impact and in certain roll-over
conditions, the airbags will not be
deployed; the seat belt alone is
s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o v i d e m a x i m u m p r o -
tection in these situations. Front airbags
The front airbags protect the driver
and front passenger in the event of a
serious front impact in order to limit the
risks of injury to the head and chest.
T h e y a r e fi t t e d i n t h e c e n t r e o f t h e
steering wheel for the driver and in the
dashboard for the front passenger.

The deployment of one or
more airbags is accompanied
by a slight discharge of harm-
less smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sensi-
tive individuals may experience some
irritation.
The noise of the detonation may result
in a slight loss of hearing for a short
time. Activation
They are deployed simultaneously, ex-
cept in cases where the passenger's
front airbag is deactivated, in the event
of a serious front impact applied to all
or part of the front impact zone
A , in
the longitudinal centreline of the vehi-
cle on a horizontal plane directed from
the front to the rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
front occupant of the vehicle and the
dashboard to cushion their forward
movement.
The airbags do not operate
when the ignition is off.
This equipment only operates
once. If a second impact occurs (dur-
ing the same or a subsequent acci-
dent), the airbag will not operate.

Disarming the front
passenger's front air bag * Reactivation
As soon as the child seat is removed,
turn the air bag slot to the
"ON" position
to re-activate the air bag and thus ensure
its safety function.
To ensure the safety of your child, it
is essential to disarm the passenger
air bag when you install a rear-facing
child seat on the front passenger seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk being
seriously injured or killed if the air bag
w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
With the ignition switched off
,
insert the key into the passenger air
bag disarming switch, turn it to the
"OFF" position, then remove the key
keeping the slot in this position. The knee airbag protects the driver's
knees in the event of a serious front
impact.

steering column.
In the event of a malfunction

It is deployed at the same time as the

If this warning lamp comes on, ac-

the system checked. The airbags may
no longer be deployed in the event of
a serious impact. Knee airbag

instrument panel for the duration
of disarming.

of an impact.

Gear selection gate
Move the lever in the gate to select
a position.
The indicator lamp corresponding to the position selected appears on
the instrument panel screen.
P ark: to immobilise the vehicle and
to start the engine, with the parking
brake on.
R everse: to reverse (select this posi-
tion with the vehicle stationary, engine
at idle).
N eutral: to start the engine and to park,
with the parking brake on.
Note: if position N is inadvertently en-
gaged while driving, allow the engine
to return to idle before engaging posi-
tion D then accelerate.
D rive: to drive in automatic mode.
M anual: to drive selecting the gears.
S : sport programme.

The four or six speed automatic gear-
box offers, as required, the comfort
of the auto-adaptive programme en-
hanced by a selection suited to dy-
namic driving conditions: sport, or to
driving on a slippery road: snow.
However, manual selection is still pos-
sible using the gear lever. Moving Off
With the engine running, move off from
position
P :
to exit position P, you have to
press the brake pedal,
select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
To move off from position N :
with your foot on the brake, release
the parking brake,
select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
Starting the engine
with the parking brake on, select
position P or N in the gate,
turn the ignition key. When the engine is at idle,
brakes not applied, if position
R , D or M is selected, the ve-
hicle moves even without the
accelerator being pressed.
Do not leave children unsupervised
inside the vehicle, with position
R, D or M selected, with the en-
gine running, as the vehicle moves
even without the accelerator being
pressed.
With the ignition off, if the le-
ver is not in position P , an
audible signal is heard when
the driver's door is opened, or
after approximately 45 seconds. Move
the lever to position P . The audible
signal ceases.
When maintenance operations need
to be carried out with the engine run-
ning, apply the parking brake and se-
lect the P ark position.
