Manual drive program
In manual drive program
M, you need to
change geary ourself using the steering wheel
gearshift paddles (Y page 228). At low engine
speeds, the transmission shifts down auto-
matically.
! In manual drive program M, the transmis-
sion does not shift up automatically even
when the engine limiting speed for the cur-
rent gear is reached. When the engine lim-
iting speed is reached, the fuel supply is cut
to prevent the engine from overrevving.
Always make sure that the engine speed
does not reach the red area of the rev coun-
ter and observe the upshift indicator. There
is otherwise a risk of engine damage.
X To activate the manual drive program:
turn the program selector switch until M
appears in the instrument cluster's multi-
function display.
M lights up in red on the program selector
switch.
X To deactivate the manual drive pro-
gram: turn the selector switch and select
another drive program.
Upshift indicator
The upshift indicator is a four-stage display
designed to assist you in sporty driving. The upshift indicator allows you to recognise
the ideal shift point for dynamic acceleration.
White segments
0001and yellow segment 0002
light up in succession from left to right. When red segments
0015light up and the "up"
message appears in the multifunction dis-
play, the ideal shift point has been reached:
X Shift up using the right-hand steering wheel
gearshift paddle (UP) as quickly as possi-
ble.
The vehicle shifts up to the next gear.
i If you continue to increase the engine
speed without shifting up in time, the fuel
supply is shut off to protec tthe engine. This
results in abruptly reduced acceleration. Instrument cluster
Please bear the following in mind
You will find an illustration of the instrument
cluster in the "At a glance" section
(Y page 25). G
Risk of accident
No further messages can be displayed if the
instrument cluster or the multifunction dis-
play fails.
This means that you will not see information
about the driving situation, such as the speed,
outside temperature, warning/indicator
lamps, display messages or system failures.
The vehicle's handling characteristics may be
affected. Adapt your driving style and speed
accordingly.
Immediately consult a qualified specialist
workshop which has the necessary specialist
knowledge and tools to carry out the work
required. Mercedes-Ben zrecommends that
you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for
this purpose. In particular, work relevant to
safety or on safety-related systems must be
carried out at a qualified specialist workshop. Engine oil temperature display
The engine oil temperature gauge is in the
instrument cluster on the right-hand side.
Under normal operating conditions, the tem-
perature may rise to 140 † . Instrument cluster

Risk of accident
Do not fit anything else to the tyre valve other
than the standard valve cap .Inparticular, ret-
rofitted tyre pressure monitors which are
screwed on to the valve may overload it and
cause it to fail. Due to their design, the valve
is kept open continuously, which may lead to
air loss. G
Ris
kofa ccident
Should the tyre pressure drop repeatedly:
R check the tyre for foreign bodies.
R check whether the wheel is losing air or the
valve is leaking.
R make sure that only a valve cap approved
by Mercedes-Ben zhas been fitted on the
tyre valve.
Tyre pressures that are to olow have a nega-
tive effect on vehicle safety, which could lead
to your causing an accident.
If possible, you should only correc ttyre pres-
sures when the tyres are cold. Depending on
the ambien ttemperature, the speed you are
driving at and the load on the tyres, the tyre
temperature and thus the tyre pressure may
change by approximately 0.1 bar per 10 †.
Take this into account when checking the
pressure of warm tyres and only correct it if
it is too low for the current operating condi-
tions.
Driving with tyre pressure that is too high or
too low can:
R shorten the service life of the tyres
R cause increased tyre damage
R have a negative effec tonhandling charac-
teristics and thus the driving safety (e.g. by
causing aquaplaning) H
Environmental note
Chec kthe tyre pressure regularly, at least
every 14 days. Tyre pressure monitor
If a tyre pressure monitor system is fitted, the
vehicle's wheels have sensors fitted that
monitor the tyre pressures in all four tyres.
The tyre pressure monitor warns you when
the pressure drops in one or more of the
tyres. The tyre pressure monitor only func-
tions if the correct wheel electronics units are
fitted to all wheels. G
Risk of accident
The tyre pressure monitor does not warn you
of an incorrectly set tyre pressure. The table
on the inside of the fuel filler flap will help you
decide whether the tyre pressures should be
corrected.
The tyre pressure monitor is not able to warn
you of a sudden loss of pressure, e.g. if the
tyre is penetrated by a foreign object. In the
event of a sudden loss of pressure, bring the
vehicle to a halt by braking carefully. Do not
make any sudden steering movements when
doing so.
i The operation of the tyre pressure moni-
tor can be affected by interference from
radio transmitting equipment (e.g. radio
headphones, two-way radios) that may be
being operated in or near the vehicle.
Checking tyre pressure electronically X
Select key position 2with the Start/Stop
button (Y page 202).
X Press the 0008or000E button to select the
Service menu.
X Press the 000For000C button to select
Tyre pressure.
X Press the 000Abutton.
The current tyre pressure for each wheel will
be displayed in the multifunction display.
If the vehicle has been parked for longer than
20 minutes or if you have not driven faster
than 25 km/h since starting the vehicle, the
following message appears: Tyres and wheels

the work required. Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends tha
tyou use a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre for this purpose. In particular, work
relevant to safety or on safety-related sys-
tems must be carried out at a qualified spe-
cialist workshop.
X Correct the tyre pressure if it is at least
130 kPa (1.3 bar) (see fuel filler flap for val-
ues).
To increase the tyre pressure: switch on
the tyre inflation compressor.
To reduce the tyre pressure: open
release screw 000A.
! The manufacturer does not guarantee
that all tyre damage can be repaired using
the TIREFIT kit, particularly in the case of
cuts and punctures with a diameter of more
than four millimetres or on the sidewall. The
manufacturer is not responsible for dam-
age caused by inappropriate use of the
TIREFIT kit.
X Drive to the nearest workshop and have the
tyre changed there.
X Have the TIREFIT kit replaced as soon as
possible at a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. at a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. H
Environmental note
Have the used TIREFIT kit disposed of profes-
sionally, e.g. at a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
X Have the TIREFIT kit replaced every four
years at a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Changing
awheel
Preparing the vehicle i
You rvehicle is not fitted with wheel-
changing tools at the factory. Some of the
tools required to perform awheel change, e.g. wheel chock, jack, centring pin or
wheel wrench are vehicle-specific. For
more information on which tools are
required to perform a wheel change on your
vehicle, consult a Mercedes-Ben
zService
Centre.
X Prepare the vehicle as described
(Y page 325).
X Bring the wheels into the straight-ahead
position.
X Take the following objects from the left-
hand stowage compartment and the left-
hand stowage space in the boot:
R
the jack 24
R the wheel-changing tools*
R the folding wheel chock 24
X Use the folding wheel choc kto prevent the
vehicle from rolling away. X
Fold both plates upwards 0001.
X Fold out lower plate 0002.
X Guide the lugs on the lower plate fully into
openings in base plate 0015.
24 Not supplied with the vehicle. Flat tyre
