The wiper arms now move into t he field of view in the
windshield.

Never drive your vehicle when the windshield wiper arms are in the
service position and pulled away from the windshield. When you
drive faster than 4 mph (6 km/h) , the wiper arms automatica lly
return back to the park position and could cause paint damage to
the eng ine hood!

• You can a lso turn on the service position, for example, if you
want to protect the windshield from icing by using a cover.
• The service position moves to
off automatically when you
operate the windshield wiper lever , or speed exceeds 4 mph
(6 km/h). •

Squeeze the corrugation on the wiper until you hear it
click in the wiper arm.
- Fold the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Switch the ignition on and move the wiper lever down
briefly. The wiper will move back to the park position.
The front wiper blades measure left side 23 .20 in . (590 mm) and
right side 18.50 in. (470 mm) in length,
Clean your wiper blades regularly with a windshield washer solution
to prevent streaking. If the blades are very dirty, for example with
insects, carefully clean the blades with a sponge or a soft brush.
If the wiper blades begin to streak the windshield, this could be
caused by residue left on the windshield by automatic car washes.
Fill the windshield washer container with a special solution avail­
able at your authorized Audi dealer to remove the residue.
Be sure to inspect the condition of your wiper blades regularly. For
safety reasons, replace your wiper blades once or twice a year if
necessary. See your authorized Audi dealer for replacement blades.

-Always loosen blades which are frozen to the windshield
before operating wipers.
- Do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents
on or near the wiper blades ,
- Do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.

Commercial hot waxes applied by automatic car washes affect the
cleanability of the glass surface.

Depending on outside tempera ture and v ehic le speed, the mirror
surfaces are heated until the ignition is swi tched off -even if the

vering in tight spaces or when leaving the car parked c lose to other

of view. Remember that vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
and far ther away than when seen in a flat mirror. If you use th is

Automatic dimming for outside mirrors
The outside mirr ors are dimmed t ogether wi th the automatic
dimming of the inside mirror. When the ignition is switched on , the
mir ro rs darken automat ically depending on the light s triking the m
(e.g . headlights from the rear) .
When the interior lighting is switched on and when reverse gear is engaged, the mir rors are switched back to their o riginal b rightness
(not dimmed).
& WARNING
Broken glass of automati c dimming mirror can cause electrolyte
fluid leakage . Electrolyte fluid c an irritate skin , eyes , and respi ra ­
tory system .
• Repeated or prolonged e xpo sure to elect ro lyte can c au se irrita ­
tion to the respiratory system , e spe cially among people with
asthma or o ther re spiratory condition s. Get fresh air immediately
b y le aving the vehi cle or , if that i s not possibl e, open windows and
doors all the way . .,

• If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush them thoroughly with
large amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes ; medical
attention is recommended .
• If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affected area with clean water

water; medical attention is recommended. Thoroughly wash
affected clothing and shoes before reuse .
• If swallowed and person is conscious, rinse mouth with water
for at least 15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed
to do so by medical professional . Get medical attention immedi­

Electrolyte leaking from a broken mirror glass attacks the vehicle
paint and plastic surfaces. Clean up spilled electrolyte immediately
with clear water and a sponge .

• If automatic dimming for the inside mirror is switched off, the
outside mirrors are also not dimmed automatically.
• Automatic dimming for the mirror only operates properly if the
sunshade* for the rear window is retracted, or the light striking the inside mirror is not hindered by other objects. •

The direction is displayed on the interior rear view mirror.

The digital compass only works with the ignition turned on. The
directions are displayed as initials:
N (North), NE (Northeast), E
(East), SE (Southeast), S (South), SW (Southwest), W (West), NW

To avoid inaccurate directions, do not allow any remote controls,
electrical systems, or metal parts close to the mirror. •

• Because the driver seat can be electrically adjusted with the
ignition key removed, never leave children unattended in the

Some of the s torage locations are only found on specific veh icle
models or are optional equ ipment .
& WARNING
• Always remove obje cts from the in strument panel. Any items
not put away could slide around inside the vehicle while driving or
when a ccelerating or when applying the bra kes or when driving
around a corner .
• When you are driving make sure that anything you may have
placed in the center console or other storage locations cannot fall
out into the footwells . In case of sudden bra king you would not be
able to brake , depress the clut ch or accelerate .
• Any pie ces of clothing that you have hung up mu st not interfere
with the driver's view. The coat hooks are designed only for light ­
weight clothing . Never hang any clothing with hard , pointed or
heavy objects in the pockets on the coat hooks . During sudden
bra king or in an accident -especially if the airbag is deployed -
these obje cts could in jure any passengers inside the vehicle. •

entering the vehicle interior.

& WARNING
Do not use this s etting for extended per iod s of t ime . The wind ows
c ould fog up sin ce no fre sh air can enter the vehi cle . If the
window s fog up , pre ss th e air re cir culat ion button again immed i­
ately t o switch off th e air re circulation function or sel ect defro st. •

vehicle will automatically switch on the air recirculati on.

The automatic air recirculation mode shou ld no rma lly be left
sw itched on at all times.
T he system is ready to operate approximately 30 seconds after you
t urn on the ignition or start the vehic le . Fresh air enters the vehic le
only during this ini tialization period.
The air qua lity sensor for detecting diese l and gasoline exhaust
fumes switches automatically to air recirculation mode if the outside air is h eavily po lluted . The supply of outside air is closed off.
As soon as the pollut ion leve l drops, fresh air is automatically
supplied to the vehic le interior again .
The air recirculation operates fo r a maximum of 12 minutes . If the
windows star t to fog up whi le the a ir rec irculation is on, press(@]
Under c ertain operating conditions ( for example , if
I@ ] or 1~ 1 are
pressed) the a ir rec ircu lation automatically switches o ff. If the air
cond itioner is switched off, or if the temperature is be low 18 °F ( -
8 °C), the air recircu lation wi ll opera te only for 12 sec onds. •

By reducing the amount of fue l you use, you a lso reduce the amount
of pollutants emitted into the air. •
Key coded settings
When the ignition is switched on, the air conditioner
settings are automatically assigned to the key being used.
The air conditioner settings selected are automatically stored and
assigned to the key being used. When the vehicle is started, the air
conditioner automatical ly selects the settings assigned to that key .
This way every driver will maintain his/her own personal settings and does not have to reset them manually.

If a different driver uses your key and changes the air conditioner
sett ings, the latest adjustments wil l erase and replace the settings
you hav e stored. •
Rear vvindovv defogger QiP
The rear window defogger clears the rear window of
condensation.

Press the CiiP switch to switch the rear wind ow defogger
on a nd off.
The defogger works only with the engine runn ing. When the
defogger is switched on, an indicator light in the switch comes on .
The rear window defogger switches off automatically after about 20 minutes.

Turn the defogger off when the rear window is c lear . When you save
electricity, you save fuel. •

Additional heater
-Switch the Additional h eater to AUTO .
Vehicles with diesel engines are equipped with an additional heater
to warm the interior of the vehicle more quickly. The additional
heater switches itself on and off automatically when the outside
temperature is below 50 °F (10 °C) and the engine is running ,
depending on the coolant temperature, interior temperature and
the selected temperature. •
