Electric parking brake
Before leaving the vehicle, check that
the electric parking brake warning
lamp P ( r e d ) i s o n fi x e d ( n o t fl a s h i n g ) .
If you leave the vehicle with the en-
gine running, apply the parking brake
manually.
Never leave a child alone inside the
vehicle with the ignition on, as they
could release the parking brake. Parking space sensor
You can activate this function by press-
ing button
A .
Once the space has been measured, the
system displays the following messages:

Parking not advised
This device combines:
- automatic functions: Automatic ap-
plication when the engine stops and
automatic release on use of the ac-
c e l e r a t o r ( a u t o m a t i c o p e r a t i o n b y
d e f a u l t ) ;
- manual use: Manual application/ release of parking brake is possible
by operating control lever A .
When in automatic mode, it remains
possible to apply or release the parking
brake at any time:
To apply it, pull on the lever A .
To release it, pull then release lever A .
Hill start assist
To aid starting on a gradient, your vehicle
i s e q u i p p e d w i t h a s y s t e m w h i c h k e e p s
it immobilised for about 2 seconds, the
approximate time it takes to move your
foot from the brake pedal to the accel-
erator pedal.

After unlocking the vehicle com-
pletely using the remote control
or the key, with the rear screen
closed, pull on the lever 1 and
raise the tailgate.
Lower the tailgate using one of
the two handholds 3 , located on
the interior trim. -
when the engine is
running , this warning
lamp comes on, accom-
panied by a message on
the multifunction screen
for a few seconds,
- when the vehicle is moving
(speed above 6 mph (10 km/h)),
this warning lamp comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal
and a message in the multifunc-
tion screen for a few seconds.
If the tailgate is not closed correctly:
REAR SCREEN
This opening gives easy access
to the boot, even if you are parked
close to a wall or another vehicle. Closing
Lower the rear screen guiding
it with the wiper arm until it is
closed.
If the rear screen is not closed cor-
rectly: - when the engine is
running , this warning
lamp comes on, accom-
panied by a message in
the multifunction screen
for a few seconds,
- when the vehicle is moving
(speed above 6 mph (10 km/h)),
this warning lamp comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal
and a message in the multifunc-
tion screen for a few seconds.
The boot and the rear screen
cannot both be open at the same
time.
When the rear screen is open,
you can access the boot by rais-
ing the rear shelf using its tab
(C4 Picasso).
After unlocking the vehicle com-
pletely using the remote control
or the key, with the boot closed,
press the control 2 and raise the
rear screen using the base 4 of
the wiper arm.
Past the balancing point, allow
the tailgate to lower and close
itself (do not assist it or slow it
down).

- Hill start assist is not available.
To apply the electric parking brake:
Immobilise the vehicle and switch off the ignition
Pull the control lever for at least 5 seconds or until maximum
application.
Switch on the ignition and check that the electric parking brake
warning lamps are on.
- Application may take longer than in normal operation.
- If warning lamp P fl a s h e s o r i f t h e w a r n i n g l a m p s d o n o t c o m e
on when the ignition is switched on, this method does not work.
Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer.
To release the electric parking brake:
Switch on the ignition.
Pull the control lever and hold it for approximately 3 second s.
5 Display of message "
Parking brake control

the following warning lamps:

HILL START ASSIST
System which holds your vehicle tem-
p o r a r i l y ( a p p r o x i m a t e l y 2 s e c o n d s )
when starting on a slope, the time it
takes to move your foot from the brake
pedal to the accelerator pedal.
This function is only active when:
- the vehicle is completely station-ary, with your foot on the brake
pedal,
- in particular conditions on a slope,
- with the driver’s door closed.
The hill start assist function cannot
be deactivated. Operation
Operating fault
If a malfunction of the system oc-
curs, these warning lamps come on.
Contact a CITROËN dealer to have
the system checked.
On an ascending slope, with the
vehicle stationary, the vehicle is
held for a brief moment when you
release the brake pedal:
- p r o v i d e d y o u a r e i n fi r s t g e a r o r neutral on a manual gearbox,
- provided you are in A or M with
the electronic gearbox system,
- provided you are in D or M on an
automatic gearbox.
On a descending slope, with the
vehicle stationary and reverse
gear engaged, the vehicle is held
momentarily when you release
the brake pedal.
Do not exit the vehicle while
it is being held in the hill
start assist phase.
If you need to exit the vehicle with
the engine running, manually apply
the parking brake and ensure that
the warning lamp P ( r e d ) i n t h e i n -
s t r u m e n t p a n e l i s o n ( n o t fl a s h i n g ) .

STOP & START
The Stop & Start system puts the en-
gine temporarily on standby - STOP
m o d e - d u r i n g s t o p s i n t h e t r a f fi c
( r e d l i g h t s , t r a f fi c j a m s , o r o t h e r . . . ) .
The engine restarts automatically -
START mode - as soon as you want
to move off. The restart takes place
instantly, quickly and silently.
Perfect for urban use, the Stop &
Start system reduces fuel consump-
tion and exhaust emissions as well
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
Going into engine STOP mode The "ECO" warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel and the engine goes
into standby:
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox system , at speeds be-
l o w 4 m p h ( 6 k m / h ) , p r e s s t h e
brake pedal or put the selector
lever in position N . I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h t h e s y s -
tem, a time counter calculates the
sum of the periods in STOP mode
d u r i n g a j o u r n e y . I t r e s t s i t s e l f t o z e r o
every time the ignition is switched on
with the key.
Special cases: STOP mode
unavailable
Never refuel with the en-
gine in STOP mode; you
must switch off the ignition
with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
maoeuvres, STOP mode is not avail-
able for a few seconds after coming
out of reverse gear.
STOP mode does not affect the func-
tionality of the vehicle, such as for
example, braking, power steering...
STOP mode is not invoked
when:
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas- tened,
- the vehicle has not exceeded 6 m p h ( 1 0 k m / h ) s i n c e t h e l a s t
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap- plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (battery charge, engine temperature,
braking assistance, ambient
t e m p e r a t u r e . . . ) w h e r e t h e e n g i n e
is needed to assure control of a
system.
In this case, the "ECO" warning
l a m p fl a s h e s f o r a f e w s e c o n d s t h e n
goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.

PARKING SENSORS
This system indicates the proximity
of an obstacle (person, vehicle, tree,
g a t e , e t c . ) w h i c h c o m e s w i t h i n t h e
fi e l d o f d e t e c t i o n o f s e n s o r s l o c a t e d
in the bumper.
Certain types of obstacle (stake,
r o a d w o r k s c o n e , e t c . ) d e t e c t e d i n i -
tially will no longer be detected at
the end of the manoeuvre due to the
presence of blind spots. Visual assistance
This supplements the audible sig-
nal by displaying segments on the
multifunction screen which move
progressively nearer to the vehicle.
When the obstacle is near, the sym-
bol "Danger" is also displayed on the
screen.
Audible assistance
The proximity information is given by
a discontinuous audible signal, the
frequency of which increases as the
vehicle approaches the obstacle.
The sound emitted by the speaker
( r i g h t o r l e f t ) i n d i c a t e s t h e s i d e o n
which the obstacle is located.
When the distance between the
vehicle and the obstacle becomes
less than approximately thirty centi-
metres, the audible signal becomes
continuous.
This function cannot, in any circum-
stances, take the place of the vigi-
lance and responsibility of the driver.
Rear parking sensors
The system is switched on by en-
gaging reverse gear. This is accom-
panied by an audible signal.
The system is switched off when you
exit reverse gear.
