STOP & START
The Stop & Start system puts the en-
gine temporarily into standby - STOP
m o d e - d u r i n g s t o p s i n t h e t r a f fi c ( r e d
l i g h t s , t r a f fi c j a m s , e t c . . . ) . T h e e n g i n e
restarts automatically - START mode -
as soon as you want to move off. The
restart takes place instantly, quickly and
silently.
Perfect for urban use, the Stop & Start
system reduces fuel consumption and
e x h a u s t e m i s s i o n s a s w e l l a s o f f e r i n g
the comfort of silence when stationary. Operation

with a manual gearbox , at speeds
b e l o w 1 2 m p h ( 2 0 k m / h ) , p u t t h e
gear lever into neutral, then release
the clutch pedal,
Going into engine STOP mode
The
"ECO" warning lamp comes on in the instrument panel and
the engine goes into standby:
For your comfort when parking,
STOP mode is not available for
a few seconds after coming out
of reverse gear.
STOP mode does not affect the
functionality of the vehicle, such
as braking, power steering, for
e x a m p l e . Never refuel with the engine in
STOP mode; you must switch
off the ignition with the key.
A time counter calculates the sum of the periods in STOP
m o d e d u r i n g a j o u r n e y . I t
rests itself to zero every
time the ignition is switched
on with the key. Special cases: STOP mode
unavailable
STOP mode is not invoked when:
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fastened,
- t h e v e h i c l e h a s n o t e x c e e d e d 6 m p h
( 1 0 k m / h ) s i n c e t h e l a s t e n g i n e s t a r t
using the key,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the pas-
senger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (battery charge, engine temperature, brak-
ing assistance, ambient tempera-
ture...) where the engine is needed
to assure control of a system.
The "ECO" w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s
for a few seconds, then goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.

Going into engine START mode The "ECO" warning lamp goes
off and the engine starts:
- with a manual gearbox , depress
the clutch pedal. Special cases: START invoked
automatically
START is invoked automatically when:
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fastened,
- t h e s p e e d o f t h e v e h i c l e e x c e e d s

- some special conditions (battery charge, engine temperature, brak-
ing assistance, ambient tempera-

to assure control of a system. Deactivation
At any time, press the
"ECO OFF" switch
to deactivate the system.
T h i s i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e s w i t c h w a r n -
ing lamp coming on accompanied by a
message in the screen.
If the system has been deacti-
vated in STOP mode, the en-
gine restarts immediately.
Reactivation
Press the "ECO OFF" switch again.
The system is active again; this is
c o n fi r m e d b y t h e s w i t c h w a r n i n g l a m p
going off, accompanied by a message
in the screen.
The system is reactivated au-
tomatically at every new start
using the key.
W i t h a m a n u a l g e a r b o x i n S T O P
mode, if a gear is engaged with-
out fully depressing the clutch
pedal, a message is displayed
asking you to depress the clutch
pedal to restart the engine. The
"ECO" w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h -
es, then goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.

Operating fault Maintenance
In the event of a malfunction with the sys-
tem, the "ECO OFF" switch warning lamp
fl a s h e s , t h e n c o m e s o n c o n t i n u o u s l y .
Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer
o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p .
In the event of a fault in STOP mode,
the vehicle may stall. It is then neces-
sary to switch off the ignition and start
the engine again using the key. Before working under the bon-
net, deactivate the Stop & Start
s y s t e m t o a v o i d a n y r i s k o f i n j u r y
resulting from automatic opera-
tion of START mode.
The Stop & Start system makes
use of advanced technology.
All work on this battery must be
done by a CITROËN dealer or a
q u a l i fi e d w o r k s h o p .
This system requires a battery with a
s p e c i a l s p e c i fi c a t i o n a n d t e c h n o l o g y
(reference numbers available from a
C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r o r a q u a l i fi e d w o r k -
shop).
Fitting a battery not listed by CITROËN
introduces the risk of malfunction of the
system.

The system will be deactivated
automatically when towing a
trailer or when a bicycle carrier is
fi t t e d ( v e h i c l e fi t t e d w i t h a t o w b a r
or bicycle carrier recommended
by CITROËN). In bad or wintry weather, ensure
that the sensors are not covered
with mud, frost or snow.
Programming
You can activate or deactivate the
system by means of the multifunction
s c r e e n c o n fi g u r a t i o n m e n u . T h e s y s t e m
state is memorised when switching off
the ignition.

the "Multifunction screens" section cor-
responding to your screen.
Operating faults
If there is an operating fault,
when reverse gear is engaged
this warning lamp comes on in
the instrument panel, accompanied by an
audible signal (short beep) and a message in the multifunction screen.

CHECKS
Manual gearbox The gearbox does not re-
quire any maintenance (no oil
c h a n g e ) .

Brake pads Brake wear depends on the
style of driving, particularly in
the case of vehicles used in
town, over short distances. It
may be necessary to have the
condition of the brakes checked, even
between vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the system, a
d r o p i n t h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l i n d i c a t e s
that the brake pads are worn. Brake disc wear

Manual parking brake
If a loss of effectiveness of this system is noticed, the parking
brake must be checked, even
between two services.
Checking this system must be done by

shop.

In order to optimise the opera-
tion of units as important as the
braking system, CITROËN se-
l e c t s a n d o f f e r s v e r y s p e c i fi c
products.
To avoid damaging the electrical
units, the use of a high pressure
washer in the engine compart-
ment is strictly prohibited .
Particle emission filter (Diesel)
According to your version of instrument
panel, the start of saturation of the par-
t i c l e e m i s s i o n s fi l t e r i s i n d i c a t e d b y :
Following prolonged operation of the vehicle at very low speed or
at idle, you may, in exceptional
circumstances, notice the emis-
sion of water vapour at the ex-
haust on acceleration. This does
not affect the behaviour of the
vehicle or the environment.
