VENTILATION
System which creates and maintains
comfortable conditions in the vehicle's
passenger compartment.
Air treatment
The incoming air follows various routes
depending on the controls selected by
the driver:
- direct arrival in the passenger com-partment (air intake),
- passage through a heating circuit (heating),
- passage through a cooling circuit (air conditioning). The temperature control enables you to
obtain the level of comfort required by
mixing the air of the various circuits.
The air distribution control enables you
to diffuse the air in the passenger com-
partment combining several air vents.
T h e a i r fl o w c o n t r o l e n a b l e s y o u t o i n -
crease or reduce the speed of the ven-
tilation blower.
The air circulating in the passenger
c o m p a r t m e n t i s fi l t e r e d a n d o r i g i n a t e s
either from the outside via the grille lo-
cated on the bonnet or from the inside
in air recirculation mode.
Control panel
The controls of this system are grouped
together on the centre console. De-
pending on the model, the functions of-
fered are:
- the level of comfort required,
- t h e a i r fl o w ,
- the air distribution,
- the de-icing and demisting,
- the manual or automatic air condi-
tioning controls.
Air diffusion
1. Windscreen de-icing or demisting
vents.
2. Front side window de-icing or de-
misting vents.
3. Side adjustable and closing vents.
4. Central adjustable and closing vents.
5. Air outlets to the front footwells.
6. Lower air outlets (under the front
seats) * .

MANUAL AIR CONDITIONING
The air conditioning system can only operate when the engine is running.
1. Temperature adjustment
Turn the dial from blue (cold) to red
(hot) to adjust the temperature to
suit your requirements.

These settings are recommended for
cold climates. Central and side vents.
This setting is recommended for hot
climates.
Move the manual control to
t h e l e f t t o r e t u r n t o t h e " E x -
t e r i o r a i r i n t a k e " p o s i t i o n .
The intake of exterior air prevents the
formation of condensation on the wind-
screen and side windows.
The recirculation of interior air prevents
exterior odours and smoke from enter-
ing the passenger compartment.
Used simultaneously with the air condi-
tioning, the air recirculation improves its
performance.
Used in a damp climate, the air recircu-
lation may cause condensation to form
on the windows.
Return to exterior air intake mode as
soon as possible to avoid deterioration
of the air quality and prevent condensa-
tion.
Move the manual control to
t h e r i g h t t o t h e " I n t e r i o r a i r
r e c i r c u l a t i o n " p o s i t i o n .
Turn the dial from position 1
to position 4 to obtain an
a i r fl o w s u f fi c i e n t t o e n s u r e
your comfort.
I f y o u p l a c e t h e a i r fl o w c o n t r o l i n p o -
sition OFF (deactivation of the sys-
tem), the temperature is no longer
maintained at a comfortable level.
H o w e v e r , a s l i g h t fl o w o f a i r , d u e t o
the movement of the vehicle, can
still be felt.

De-icing - Demisting
To quickly de-ice or demist the wind-
screen and side windows:
place the air intake control 4 in the
" E x t e r i o r a i r i n t a k e " p o s i t i o n ,
place the air distribution dial 3 in the
" W i n d s c r e e n " p o s i t i o n ,
place the temperature dial 1 and the
a i r fl o w d i a l 2 in the maximum posi-
tion,
close the central vents,
switch on the air conditioning by
pressing the "A/C" button.
5. Air conditioning On/Off
S w i t c h i n g o n
Press the "A/C" button, the associ-
ated indicator light comes on.
T h e a i r c o n d i t i o n i n g d o e s n o t o p -

dial 2 is in position "OFF".
S w i t c h i n g o f f
Press the "A/C" button again, the as-
sociated indicator light switches off.
REAR SCREEN
DE-ICING
S w i t c h i n g o n
The rear screen de-icing can only oper-
ate when the engine is running.
Press this button to de-ice the rear
screen. The indicator light associ-
ated with the button comes on.
S w i t c h i n g o f f
The de-icing switches off automatically
to prevent an excessive consumption of
current.
It is possible to stop the de-icing op-
eration before it is switched off au-
tomatically by pressing the button
again. The indicator light associated
with the button switches off.
If the engine is switched off before the
de-icing is switched off automatically,
de-icing will resume next time the en-
gine is switched on.
Switch off the de-icing of the rear
screen as soon as you consider this
necessary as lower current con-
sumption results in reduced fuel
consumption. The control button is located on
the air conditioning system con-
trol panel.
The air conditioning is designed
to operate effectively in all sea-
sons, with the windows closed.
It enables you to:
- lower the temperature, in summer,
- increase the effectiveness of the de- misting, in winter above 0 °C.

AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING

The value indicated on the display cor-
responds to a level of comfort and not
to a temperature in degrees Celsius or
Fahrenheit.
3. Automatic visibility programme
The automatic comfort programme may
n o t b e s u f fi c i e n t t o q u i c k l y d e m i s t o r d e -
ice the windscreen and side windows
(humidity, several passengers, ice...).
This system is designed to operate
effectively in all seasons, with the
windows closed.
When the engine is cold, to prevent
too great a distribution of cold air, the
a i r fl o w w i l l o n l y r e a c h i t s o p t i m u m l e v e l
gradually.
In cold weather, it favours the distribu-
tion of warm air to the windscreen, the
side windows and the footwells only.
The air conditioning can only operate with the engine ru
nning.
Press the "AUTO" button.
The "AUTO" symbol is dis-
played.
Press the arrows 1 (up and
down) to change this value.
A setting around 21 enables
you to obtain an optimum level
of comfort. Depending on your require-
ments, a setting between 18 and 24 is
usual.
On entering the vehicle, if the interior
temperature is much colder or warmer
than the comfort value, there is no need
to alter the value displayed in order to
obtain the required level of comfort. The
system eliminates the temperature dif-
ference automatically and as quickly as
possible.
In this case, select the auto-
matic visibility programme.
The system automatically con-
trols the air conditioning, the
a i r fl o w a n d t h e a i r i n t a k e a n d p r o v i d e s
optimum distribution of the ventilation to
the windscreen and side windows.
To exit this programme, press the
"AUTO" button again.
We recommend that you use this
mode: it provides optimised automatic
control of all of the functions, passenger
c o m p a r t m e n t t e m p e r a t u r e , a i r fl o w , a i r
distribution and air recirculation, in
accordance with the comfort value that
you have selected.

Resuming manual control
Depending on your requirements, you
can make a different selection from that
offered by the system by changing a
setting. The other functions will still be
controlled automatically.
Press the "AUTO" button to return
to fully automatic operation.

Avoid prolonged operation in inte-
rior air recirculation mode (risk of
condensation and of deterioration
of the air quality).
Avoid driving for too long with the
air conditioning deactivated.
Press this button to switch
the air conditioning off.
The "ECO" symbol is dis-
played.
Switching the system off may result in
discomfort (humidity, condensation).
Press the button again to return to
automatic operation of the air con-
ditioning. The symbol " A/C " is dis-
played.
Press this button several
times in succession to direct
t h e a i r fl o w i n t u r n t o w a r d s :
- the windscreen and side windows (demisting or de-icing),
- the windscreen, the side windows and the footwells,
- the footwells,
- the central vents, the side vents and the footwells,
- the central and side vents.
Press the "-" but-
ton to reduce the air
fl o w .
Press the "+" button
to increase the air
fl o w .
Press this button to recircu-
late the interior air. The air
recirculation symbol is dis-
played.
Air recirculation prevents exterior odours
and smoke from entering the passenger
compartment.
Favour this position for rapid cooling of
the passenger compartment.
As soon as possible, press this but-
ton again to permit the intake of ex-
terior air and prevent condensation.
Press the "OFF" button.
This action deactivates all of the func-
tions of the air conditioning system.
The temperature is no longer main-
tained at a comfortable level. However,
a s l i g h t fl o w o f a i r , d u e t o t h e m o v e m e n t
of the vehicle, can still be felt.
Press the "OFF" , "AUTO" or "visi-
bility" button again to reactivate the
system with the values which were
set before it was deactivated.

WINDOW MECHANISMS
System which opens or closes a window
manually or automatically. Electric windows
Press or pull the switch. The window
stops as soon as the switch is re-
leased.
One-touch electric windows
There are two methods of operation:
- manual mode
Press or pull the switch gently.
The window stops as soon as the
switch is released.
- automatic mode
Press or pull the switch fully. The
window opens or closes complete-
ly when the switch is released.
Pressing the switch again stops
the movement of the window.
REAR QUARTER WINDOWS
On the 3-door versions, system for ven-
tilation of the rear seats limiting the par-
tial opening of the window.
Opening
Tilt the lever outwards.
Push the window to open it.
Closing
Pull the lever to close the window.
Tilt the lever fully inwards to secure
the window in the closed position.

The electric window switches re-
m a i n o p e r a t i o n a l f o r a p p r o x i m a t e l y
45 seconds after the ignition is
switched off or until a front door is
opened.
