Child Restraints
Everyone in your vehicle needs to be buckled up all the
time — babies and children, too. Every state in the United
States, and all Canadian provinces, require that small
children ride in proper restraint systems. This is the law,
and you can be prosecuted for ignoring it.
Children 12 years and under should ride properly buck-
led up in a rear seat, if available. According to crash
statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in
the rear seats rather than in the front.
There are different sizes and types of restraints for
children from newborn size to the child almost large
58 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE
Press the top of the switch to move the pedals rearward
(toward the driver).
•The pedals can be adjusted with the ignition OFF.
•The pedals can be adjusted while driving.
•The pedalscannotbe adjusted when the vehicle is in
REVERSE (R) or when the Electronic Speed Control is
ON. A message will be displayed in the Electronic
Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) if the pedals are
attempted to be adjusted when the system is locked
out (“Adjustable Pedal Disabled — Cruise Control
Engaged” or “Adjustable Pedal Disabled — Vehicle In
Reverse”). Refer to Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC) in Section 4 for more information.
CAUTION!
Do not place any article under the adjustable pedal’s
or impede its ability to move as it may cause damage
to the pedal controls. Pedal travel may become lim-
ited if movement is stopped by an obstruction in the
adjustable pedal’s path.
ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL — IF EQUIPPED
When engaged, Electronic Speed Control takes over
accelerator operations at speeds greater than 25 mph
(40 km/h) for 3.7L, 4.7L, and 5.7L engines; and 14 mph
(23 km/h) for 3.0L diesel engines.
The Electronic Speed Control lever is located on the right
side of the steering wheel.

To Activate
Push the ON/OFF button. The Cruise Indicator Light in
the instrument cluster will illuminate. To turn the system
off, push the ON/OFF button a second time. The Cruise
Indicator Light will turn off. The system should be
turned off when not in use.
WARNING!
Leaving the Electronic Speed Control system on
when not in use is dangerous. You could accidentally
set the system or cause it to go faster than you want.
You could lose control and have an accident. Always
leave the system OFF when you are not using it.
To Set At A Desired Speed
When the vehicle has reached the desired speed, press
down on the lever and release. Release the accelerator
and the vehicle will operate at the selected speed.
NOTE:The vehicle should be traveling at a steady
speed and on level ground before pressing the SET lever.

Speed Control lever toward you, or normal brake pres-
sure while slowing the vehicle will deactivate Electronic
Electronic Speed Control Lever

17. 4WD LOW Indicator — If Equipped
This light alerts the driver that the vehicle is in
the 4WD LOW mode. The front and rear drive-
shafts are mechanically locked together forcing
the front and rear wheels to rotate at the same
speed.
18. Seat Belt Reminder Light
When the ignition switch is first turned ON, this
light will turn on for five to eight seconds as a bulb
check. During the bulb check, if the driver’s seat
belt is unbuckled, a chime will sound. After the bulb
check or when driving, if the driver or front passenger
seat belt remains unbuckled, the Seat Belt Indicator Light
will flash or remain on continuously. Refer toOccupant
Restraints/Enhanced Seat Belt Use Reminder System
(BeltAlert)in Section 2 for more information.19. Cruise Indicator
This indicator lights when the speed control
system is turned ON.
20. Odometer
The odometer shows the total distance the vehicle has
been driven.
U.S. federal regulations require that upon transfer of
vehicle ownership, the seller certify to the purchaser the
correct mileage that the vehicle has been driven. There-
fore, if the odometer reading is changed during repair or
replacement, be sure to keep a record of the reading
before and after the service so that the correct mileage can
be determined.
21. Shift Lever Indicator
This display indicator shows the automatic transmission
shift lever selection.
