Supplemental Side Airbag Inflatable Curtain
(SABIC) — If Equipped
SABIC Airbags offer side-impact and vehicle rollover
protection to front and rear seat outboard occupants in
addition to that provided by the body structure. Each
airbag features inflated chambers placed adjacent to the
head of each outboard occupant that reduce the potential
for side-impact head injuries. The curtains deploy down-
ward, covering both windows on the impact side.
NOTE:
•Should a vehicle rollover occur, the SABIC curtains on
both sides of the vehicle are deployed.
•Airbag covers may not be obvious in the interior trim;
but they will open to allow airbag deployment.
The system includes sensors adjacent to both front and
rear seat occupants that are calibrated to deploy during
an impact severe enough to require airbag occupant
protection.
WARNING!
If your vehicle is equipped with left and right Side
Airbag Inflatable Curtain (SABIC), do not stack
luggage or other cargo up high enough to block the
location of the SABIC. The area where the side
curtain airbag is located should remain free from any
obstructions.
Airbags inflate in moderate to high speed impacts. Along
with seat belts and pretensioners, front airbags work with
the knee bolsters to provide improved protection for the
driver and front passenger. Side airbags also work with
seat belts to improve occupant protection.
The seat belts are designed to protect you in many types
of collisions. The front airbags deploy in moderate to
severe frontal collisions. If your vehicle is equipped, the
side airbag on the crash side of the vehicle is triggered in
moderate to severe side collisions. In certain types of

MIRRORS
Inside Day/Night Mirror — If Equipped
A two point pivot system allows for horizontal and
vertical adjustment of the mirror. Adjust the mirror to
center on the view through the rear window.
Headlight glare can be reduced by moving the small
control under the mirror to the night position (toward the
rear of the vehicle). The mirror should be adjusted while
set in the day position (toward the windshield).
Automatic Dimming Mirror — If Equipped
When using this feature the mirror will automatically
adjust for headlight glare from vehicles behind you. You
can turn the feature on or off by pressing the button at the
base of the mirror. A light in the button will indicate
when the dimming feature is activated.

Select a mirror and press one of the four arrows for the
direction you want the mirror to move.
Driver’s power mirror preselected positions can be con-
trolled by the optional Driver Memory Seat Feature.
Refer to “Driver Memory Seat” in Section 3.
Heated Power Mirrors — If Equipped
These mirrors are heated to melt frost or ice. This
feature is activated whenever you turn on the rear
window defrost. Refer to “Electric Rear Window De-
froster — If Equipped” in this section.
Tilt Mirrors in Reverse (Available with Memory
Seat Only) — If Equipped
This additional feature provides automatic outside mir-
ror positioning which will aid the drivers view of theground rearward of the front doors. The outside mirrors
will move slightly downward from the present position
when the vehicle is shifted into the Reverse position. The
outside mirrors will then return to the original position
when the vehicle is shifted out of Reverse position. Each
stored memory setting will have an associated Tilt Mir-
rors in Reverse position.
NOTE:The Tilt Mirrors in Reverse feature is not en-
abled when delivered from the factory. The Tilt Mirrors in
Reverse feature can be enabled or disabled in the Elec-
tronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC). Refer to “Tilt
Mirrors in Reverse” under “Customer-Programmable
Features” under “Electronic Vehicle Information Center
(EVIC) in Section 4.

Repeat the words and phrases when prompted by the
UConnectsystem. For best results, the Voice Training
session should be completed when the vehicle is parked
with the engine running, all windows closed, and the
blower fan switched OFF.
This procedure may be repeated with a new user. The
system will adapt to the last trained voice only.
To restore the Voice Recognition system to factory default
settings, enter the Voice Training session via the above
procedure and follow the prompts.
Voice Recognition (VR)
•
For best performance, adjust the rearview mirror to
provide at least12in (1 cm) gap between the overhead
console (if equipped) and the mirror.
•Always wait for the beep before speaking.
•Speak normally, without pausing, just as you would
speak to a person sitting a few feet/meters away from
you.
•Make sure that no one other than you is speaking
during a voice recognition period.
•Performance is maximized under:
•low-to-medium blower setting,
•low-to-medium vehicle speed,
•low road noise,
•smooth road surface,
•fully closed windows,
•dry weather condition.
•Even though the system is designed for users speaking
in North American English, French, and Spanish ac-
cents, the system may not always work for some.

•When navigating through an automated system such
as voice mail, or when sending a page, at the end of
speaking the digit string, make sure to saySend.
•Storing names in the phonebook when the vehicle is
not in motion is recommended.
•It is not recommended to store similar sounding
names in the UConnectphonebook.
•Phonebook (Downloaded and UConnect Local) name
recognition rate is optimized when the entries are not
similar.
•You can sayO(letterO) for0(zero).800must be
spokeneight-zero-zero.
•Even though international dialing for most number
combinations is supported, some shortcut dialing
number combinations may not be supported.
•In a convertible vehicle, system performance may be
compromised with the convertible top down.
Far End Audio Performance
•
Audio quality is maximized under:
•low-to-medium blower setting,
•low-to-medium vehicle speed,
•low road noise,
•smooth road surface,
•fully closed windows,
•dry weather conditions, and
•operation from the driver’s seat.
•Performance, such as audio clarity, echo, and loudness
to a large degree rely on the phone and network, and
not the UConnectsystem.

3. Rear Wiper and Washer
Rotating the rotary ring to the first detent activates the
rear intermittent wipers. To activate the washers, rotate
the rotary ring fully forward and the washers will spray
until the ring is released, and then resume the intermit-
tent interval.
NOTE:Rear window wipers function in the intermittent
wiper speed only.
WARNING!
Sudden loss of visibility through the windshield
could lead to an accident. You might not see other
vehicles or other obstacles. To avoid sudden icing of
the windshield during freezing weather, warm the
windshield with the defroster before and during
windshield washer use.
TILT STEERING COLUMN — IF EQUIPPED
To tilt the column, pull the lever downward (located on
the steering column and below the steering wheel) to the
open position. You may then position the steering wheel
up or down, as desired. Pull the small lever upward to
the closed position to lock the steering wheel firmly in
place.
WARNING!
Tilting the steering column while the vehicle is
moving is dangerous. Without a stable steering col-
umn, you could lose control of the vehicle and have
an accident. Adjust the column only while the ve-
hicle is stopped. Be sure it is locked before driving.
