Turn and Lane-Change Signals An arrow on the instrument
panel cluster ashes in the
direction of the turn or
lane change.
Move the lever all the way up or down to signal a turn.
Raise or lower the lever for less than one second
until the arrow starts to ash to signal a lane change.
This causes the turn signals to automatically ash three
times. It will ash six times if tow-haul mode is active.
Holding the turn signal lever for more than one second
will cause the turn signals to ash until you release
the lever.
The lever returns to its starting position whenever it is
released.
If after signaling a turn or a lane change the arrows
ash rapidly or do not come on, a signal bulb could be
burned out.
Have the bulbs replaced. If the bulb is not burned out,
check the fuse. See Fuses and Circuit Breakers on
page 6-106 . Turn Signal On Chime If the turn signal is left on for more than 3/4 of a mile
(1.2 km), a chime will sound at each ash of the
turn signal and the message TURN SIGNAL ON will
also appear in the Driver Information Control (DIC).
To turn the chime and message off, move the turn
signal lever to the off position.
Headlamp High/Low-Beam Changer
53 (Headlamp High/Low Beam Changer):
To change the headlamps from low to high beam,
push the lever toward the instrument panel. To return
to low-beam headlamps, pull the multifunction lever
toward you. Then release it.
When the high beams
are on, this indicator light
on the instrument panel
cluster will also be on.

Flash-to-Pass This feature lets you use the high-beam headlamps to
signal a driver in front of you that you want to pass.
It works even if the headlamps are in the automatic
position.
To use it, pull the turn signal lever toward you, then
release it.
If the headlamps are in the automatic position or on low
beam, the high-beam headlamps will turn on. They will
stay on as long as you hold the lever toward you. The
high-beam indicator on the instrument panel cluster will
come on. Release the lever to return to normal operation.
For vehicles with High Intensity Discharge (HID)
headlamps, the low-beam headlamps must be on
for the ash-to-pass feature to work.
Windshield Wipers Turn the band with the wiper symbol to control the
windshield wipers.
8 (Mist): Turn to mist for a single wiping cycle.
Hold it there until the wipers start. Then let go.
The wipers stop after one wipe. Hold the band
on mist longer, for more wipe cycles. 9 (Off): Turns the wipers off.
6 (Delay): Turn the band to adjust the delay time.
The delay between wiping cycles becomes shorter as
the band is moved to the top of the lever. This can
be very useful in light rain or snow.
6 (Low Speed): For steady wiping at low speed.
? (High Speed): For high-speed wiping.
Clear ice and snow from the wiper blades before using
them. If they are frozen to the windshield, gently loosen
or thaw them. Damaged wiper blades may not clear the
windshield well, making it harder to see and drive safely.
If the blades do become damaged, install new blades or
blade inserts. For more information, see Windshield
Wiper Blade Replacement on page 6-54 .
Heavy snow or ice can overload the wiper motor.
A circuit breaker will stop the motor until it cools down.
Clear away snow or ice to prevent an overload.

Cruise Control
{ CAUTION: Cruise control can be dangerous where you cannot
drive safely at a steady speed. So, do not use the
cruise control on winding roads or in heavy traffic.
Cruise control can be dangerous on slippery roads.
On such roads, fast changes in tire traction can
cause excessive wheel slip, and you could lose
control. Do not use cruise control on slippery roads.
With cruise control, a speed of about 25 mph (40 km/h)
or more can be maintained without keeping your foot
on the accelerator. Cruise control does not work
at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h). When the brakes are applied, cruise control is turned off.
For vehicles with an Allison ®
or Hydra-Matic 6-speed
automatic transmission, see “Grade Braking and Cruise
Grade Braking (Allison Transmission) under Tow/Haul
Mode on page 2-33 for an explanation of how cruise
control interacts with the Range Selection Mode,
tow/haul and grade braking systems.
If the vehicle has StabiliTrak ®
, and the system begins
to limit wheel spin, cruise control will automatically
disengage. See StabiliTrak ®
System on page 5-6 .
When road conditions allow the cruise control to
be safely used again, it can be turned back on.

Manual Operation
y9z (Fan Control): Press the up or down arrows
to increase or decrease the fan speed
Pressing this button when the system is off will turn the
system on.
Pressing either arrow while using automatic operation
will place the fan in manual operation. The fan setting will
display and the AUTO light will turn off. The air delivery
will remain in automatic operation.
N (Air Delivery Mode Control): Press to change the
direction of the airow in the vehicle. Repeatedly press
the button until the desired mode appears on the display.
When the system is turned off, the display goes blank
after displaying the current status of the system.
H (Vent): Air is directed to the instrument panel outlets.
) (Bi-Level): Air is divided between the instrument
panel and oor outlets. Some air is directed towards
the windshield and side window outlets. Cooler air
is directed to the upper vents and warmer air to the
oor vents. 6 (Floor): Air is directed to the oor outlets, with
some to the windshield, side window outlets, and second
row oor outlets. In this mode, the system automatically
selects outside air.
- (Defog): This mode clears the windows of fog or
moisture. Air is directed to the windshield, oor outlets,
and side window vents. In this mode, the system turns
off recirculation and runs the air conditioning compressor
unless the outside temperature is close to freezing.
The recirculation mode cannot be selected while in
the defog mode.
0 (Defrost): This mode removes fog or frost from the
windshield more quickly. Air is directed to the windshield
and side window vents, with some directed to the oor
vents. In this mode, the system automatically forces
outside air into the vehicle and runs the air conditioning
compressor unless the outside temperature is close to
freezing. The recirculation mode cannot be selected while
in the defrost mode.
Do not drive the vehicle until all the windows are clear.

Brake System Warning Light With the ignition on, the brake system warning light
comes on when the parking brake is set. If the vehicle
is driven with the parking brake engaged, a chime
sounds when the vehicle speed is greater than
3 mph (5 km/h).
The vehicle’s hydraulic brake system is divided into
two parts. If one part is not working, the other part
can still work and stop the vehicle. For good braking
both parts need to be working well.
If the warning light comes on and a chime sounds there
could be a brake problem. Have the brake system
inspected by your dealer/retailer.
This light can also come on due to low brake uid.
See Brakes on page 6-36 for more information. This light comes on briey when the ignition is turned
to ON/RUN. If it does not, have it xed so it will be ready
to warn if there is a problem.
If the light comes on while driving, pull off the road and
stop carefully. The pedal could be harder to push or
could go closer to the oor. It can take longer to stop.
If the light is still on, have the vehicle towed for service.

{ CAUTION: The brake system might not be working properly if
the brake system warning light is on. Driving with
the brake system warning light on can lead to a
crash. If the light is still on after the vehicle has
been pulled off the road and carefully stopped,
have the vehicle towed for service.

Engine Coolant Temperature Gage This gage shows
the engine coolant
temperature.
If the indicator on the gage moves towards the shaded
area on the thermostat, it means that the engine coolant
has overheated. If the vehicle has been operating under
normal driving conditions, pull off the road, stop the
vehicle and turn off the engine as soon as possible.
See Engine Overheating on page 6-30 .Tire Pressure Light For vehicles with a tire
pressure monitoring
system, this light comes
on briey when the engine
is started.
It provides information about tire pressures and the
Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
When the Light is On Steady This indicates that one or more of the tires is signicantly
underinated.
A tire pressure message in the Driver Information
Center (DIC), can accompany the light. See DIC
Warnings and Messages on page 3-56 for more
information. Stop and check the tires as soon as it is
safe to do so. If a tire is underinated, inate to the
proper pressure. See Tires on page 6-56 for more
information.

This light comes on during a malfunction in one of
two ways:
Light Flashing: A misre condition has been detected.
A misre increases vehicle emissions and could
damage the emission control system on the vehicle.
Diagnosis and service might be required.
To prevent more serious damage to the vehicle:
Reduce vehicle speed.
Avoid hard accelerations.
Avoid steep uphill grades.
If towing a trailer, reduce the amount of cargo being
hauled as soon as it is possible.
If the light continues to ash, when it is safe to do so,
stop the vehicle. Find a safe place to park the vehicle.
Turn the key off, wait at least 10 seconds, and restart
the engine. If the light is still ashing, follow the previous
steps and see your dealer/retailer for service as soon
as possible.
Light On Steady: An emission control system
malfunction has been detected on the vehicle.
Diagnosis and service might be required. An emission system malfunction might be corrected by
doing the following:
Make sure the fuel cap is fully installed. See Filling
the Tank on page 6-9 . The diagnostic system
can determine if the fuel cap has been left off or
improperly installed. A loose or missing fuel cap
allows fuel to evaporate into the atmosphere.
A few driving trips with the cap properly installed
should turn the light off.
If the vehicle has been driven through a deep puddle
of water, the vehicle’s electrical system might be wet.
The condition is usually corrected when the electrical
system dries out. A few driving trips should turn the
light off.
Make sure to fuel the vehicle with quality fuel. Poor
fuel quality causes the engine not to run as efficiently
as designed and can cause: stalling after start-up,
stalling when the vehicle is changed into gear,
misring, hesitation on acceleration, or stumbling
on acceleration. These conditions might go away
once the engine is warmed up.
If one or more of these conditions occurs, change the
fuel brand used. It will require at least one full tank of
the proper fuel to turn the light off.

If none of the above have made the light turn off, your
dealer/retailer can check the vehicle. The dealer/retailer
has the proper test equipment and diagnostic tools to
x any mechanical or electrical problems that might have
developed.
