• The digital c lock and the odometer are turned on for about 30
seconds when the driver's door is opened.
• When the ignition is turned off, the odometer reading and the
digital clock with date display can be switched on for about
30 seconds by pressing the !CHECK] button~

Speedometer with odometer
The speedometer shows you the vehicle speed, and the
odometer shows you how many miles (kilometers) you
have driven.

You can switch the disp lay from miles to kilometers and vice versa
via the MMI.
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven .

Upper odometer (trip odometer)
The upper odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven since you last reset the odometer to zero. You can use this
odometer when you want to keep track of how many miles (kilome ­
ters) you have driven for a single trip or errand. The last digit indi­
cates 1/10 of a mile (100 meters).
You can reset the trip odometer to zero by pressing the Reset button
~ o.o.
Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the instrument cluster,
dEF
wil l appear in the trip odometer and will stay on . Contact your
authorized Audi dealer to have the problem corrected .
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on the ignition key are
scanned automatically.
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is displayed continuously in
the odometer display field. The vehicle cannot be operated

This reminder appears along with the -symbol if the master key is
removed from the vehicle with the engine running. It is intended to
remind you (e.g. when changing drivers) not to continue the journey
without the master key.
If the master key is no longer in the vehicle, you cannot switch off
the ignition after stopping the engine and you also cannot start the
engine again. What is more, you cannot lock the vehicle from the
outside. •

If the symbol illuminates, the light sensor has failed. For safety
reasons the low beams are turned on permanently with the switch

AUTO. However, you can continue to turn the lights on and off
using the light switch . In the case of a defect in the rain sensor, the
windshield wiper lever functions are still available. Have the

light/rain sensor checked as soon as possible by an authorized Audi
dealer. •

in the display, there is a fault in the system . Contact a qualified work­
shop to have the fault rectified. •
Battery voltage
If the battery's state of charge is not in the optimal range, the
symbol is shown in the display and the driver message

charge: battery will be charged while driving

While this driver notification is displayed, you have to be prepared
for limited starting capability.
Driver message appears and goes out again
If this driver message appears after the ignition is turned on or
while driving and it goes out again after a while, the battery has
been adequately recharged.

• The proximity sensors are deactivated after a few days to save
power. You then have to pull on the door handle once to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open the vehicle .
• To prevent the ba ttery from being discharged and to preserve
your vehicle's ability to start for as long as possible , the energy
management system gradual ly swi tches off unnecessa ry conve ­
nience functions. It is possib le that you will not be ab le to un lock
your vehicle using these convenience functions .•

The vehicle can be locked at any door. The authorized master key
only has to be within a range of about 5 feet (1 .5 meters) from the
part icular door.
The se lector lever must be in the P position, otherwise the vehicle
can not be locked.

• When you lock your vehicle from out side , nobody -espe cially
children -should remain inside the vehicle . Remember , when you
lock the vehicle from the out side the windo ws ca nnot be opened
from the in side .
• When you leave the vehi cle , al wa ys remo ve the ignition key and
t ak e it with you. Thi s will prevent pa ssenger s (children , for
e x ample ) from a ccident ally b ein g locked in the vehic le should they
accidentally pre ss the power locking swit ch in the front door s.
• Do n ot lea ve ch ildren in side the vehi cle un supe rvis ed . In an
emergency it would be impo ss ible to open the doors from the
out side w ithout the key .

It is not possib le to re -open the door for a brief period directly after
c losing it. This allows you to ensu re that the doo rs are properly
locked .•
Anti-theft alarm system
The anti- theft al arm triggers an alarm if anyone at tempts
to break i nto the vehicle.
The anti -theft a larm system triggers an audible alarm and turns on
the emergency flasher if an unauthorized interference w ith the
vehic le is sensed by the system.
How i s the anti -theft alarm system switched on ?
The anti-theft alarm system is switched on when you lock the
vehicle . The system is activated approximately 30 seconds after the
vehic le is locked. The indicator light on top of the door trim start
flashing rapid ly for 30 seconds and then b link slowly. .,..

Distance between the point touched by the tires (surface of ground)
and the engine air intake or induction system. Maximum fording
depth in standing water.

Gradient angle
The number of meters in altitude gained over a distance of 109.4
yards or 100 meters (grade) are given as a percentage or degrees.
Information about the gradient the vehicle can climb under its own
power (depends in part on the road surface and engine power).
Maximum permitted grade: 31°
Lateral angle (slope of vehicle)
Indicates the angle up to which the vehicle can be driven diagonally
or across the fall line on a slope without the vehicle tipping over
sideways (depends on center of gravity) . Maximum permitted lateral
angle: 35°
Breakover angle
Indicates the angle up to which the vehicle can drive over a ramp at
low speed without the underside of the vehicle hitting the edge of
the ramp.
• Vehicles without air springs: maximum breakover angle: 21,1°
• Vehicles with adaptive air suspension*: maximum breakover
angle: 19.1 ° (at normal level), 23.8° (at high level 2)
Approach/departure angle
Transition from the horizontal plane to a gradient or from a grade
back to level ground. Indicates the angle up to which the vehicle can

General information
Regular care preserves vehicle value.
Any automobi le is exposed to industrial fumes, corrosive road salt,
muddy dog feet, etc . A well cared for Audi can look like new many
years a fter purchase. Regu lar a nd correct ca re will co ntribu te to
maintaining the beauty and value of your Audi.
Furthermore, good care may be a condition for substantiating a
war ranty claim should co rros ion damage or paint defect s occur .
Your authorized Audi dealer has a variety of dedicated vehicle- care
product s
and can adv ise whic h ones to use for clea ning the e xter ior
and interior of your vehicle.
Whethe r you use p roducts recommended by Audi or other c ommer ­
cia lly availab le cleaning agents , please make sure you apply them
correctly.

• Cleaning agents may be poisonous. Keep them out of the reach
of ch ildren .
• Heed all caution label s.
• Always read directions on the contai ner before using any
product. Follow the di rection s carefully .
• Most chemical cleaners are concentrated and have to be
d iluted.
• Use spot removing fluids only in well ventilated area s.
• Do not use gasoline , kerosene , die sel fuel , nail polish remover
or other volatile fluids . They may be toxic , flammable or hazardous
in other way s. Do not wash , wa x or dry the vehicle w ith the igni ­
tion on or the engine running.

• Do not clean the under side s of chassis , fenders , wheel cove rs,
etc . without protecting your hands and arms. You may cut yourself
on sharp -edg ed metal parts .
• Moisture and ice on brakes may impair braking effi ciency

Care of exterior
Washing
Frequen t washing pro tects the vehi cle.
Th e bes t protection against envi ronmental influences is frequent
washing and waxing . How often this is required depends on:
• Ho w much the vehic le is used
• Where the vehic le is parked (garage, in the open under trees,
etc.)
• T he seasonal and weather conditions
• Environmenta l influences
T he longer bird droppings, insects, tree resin, road and industrial
gri me, tar, soot, road salt and ot her materials rema in on the ve hicle
body, the more lasting their destruc tive effects will be . High temper ­
atu res caused by exp osu re to in tense s un ligh t inte nsify the c orro -
sive effect, particularly when humidity is high as well.

Keep si licone sprays off the windshie ld to avoid wiper smear in
rain. •
Cast (light) alloy wheels
Cast (light) alloy wheels require special care.
-Wash the wheels with a sponge or hose brush every
o ther week.
- For deep clean ing afterwards, use only a dedicated acid­
free cast alloy whee l cleaner.
Rub a coat of liquid wax onto the rims every t hree month .
Be sure to reach and treat all parts of the rim.
To preserve the decorative appearance of the cast alloy wheels,
some special care is necessary. In add ition to road dirt and salt,
brake dust is also corrosive . If left on for too long, brake dust can
cause pitting.
Use on ly special
acid -free cleaners formu lated for a lloy rims . Safe
produc ts are available at your authorized Audi dealer. Never leave
the cleaner on the rims longer than specified on the label. If not rinsed off promptly, the acid contained in some cleaners can attack
the threads on the wheel bolts .
Never use abrasive or metal po lishing c leaning agents. If the protec ­
t ive coating has been chipped, e.g . by kicked up road dirt, touch it
up as soon as possible .

Body cavity sealing
The b ody cavity sealing does not need to b e checked.
All body cavities which could be affected by corrosion have been
thoroughly protected at the factory .
T his seal ing does not require any inspection or add it ional trea t­
ment. If any wax should seep out of the cavity wh en the ambient
t emperature is h igh, i t ca n be removed with a p lastic scrape r and a
suitable solvent.

S olvent s can be dangerous .
• Ben zine is flammable and toxic . If you use benz ine for re moving
the wax , keep sparks , flame and l ighted cigarettes away . Never
dump benzine on th e ground , into open streams or down sewage
dr ains.
• Be sure to ob serve all safety and environmental regulat ion s.

Have the undercoating checked for damage from time to

Natural leather
Audi makes great efforts to maintain the properties,
natural look and feel of interior leather.
General
We offer many different types of leather on our vehicles. Most are
different types of nappa leather, which has a smooth surface and
comes in various colors.
The intensity of the color determines the visua l characteristics and
appearance. If the surface of the leather has a typica l natural look,
then the leather is a nappa leather that has been left in a re latively
natural condition. This leather offers particular ly good comfort and
breathes well. Fine veins, closed grains, insect bites, skin folds, and
subtle variations in color remain visible. These characteristics
demonstrate that the material is natural.
Natura l nappa leather is not covered by a color finish. It is therefore
more sensitive to soiling and wear, which is something you need to
consider if children, animals or other factors might prove to be
particularly hard on the leather .
By contrast, leather types that are covered by a colored finish layer
are more durable. This has a positive effect on the leather's resis­
tance to wear and soiling in daily use . On the other hand, the typical
characteristics of natural leather are barely or not apparent.
However, this does not mean that the leather itself is of inferior
quality.
Care and handling
Because of the exclusive nature of the types of leather that Audi
uses and their unique properties (such as sensitivity to oils, grease,
soiling, etc.l, you will need to be somewhat careful with these
leathers, and a certain type of care is required. For example, dark
clothing materials can discolor leather seats (especial ly if such
clothing is damp and was not dyed correctly) . Dust and dirt particles in pores, folds, and seams can have an abrasive effect and can
damage the leather surface as well as weaken seams
.
The leather should be cleaned regularly as needed . After having
been used for a relatively long time, your leather seats will acquire
a rich aged finish. This is a characteristic of natural leather and a
sign of true quality.
In order to maintain the value of this natural product over the life of
your vehicle, you should follow the recommendations below:

• To keep your leather from bleaching out, do not allow it to be
exposed to bright sun light for long periods of time. If you have to
leave the vehicle parked outside for long periods, cover the leather
to protect it from direct exposure to sunlight.
• Sharp objects on clothing, such as zippers, rivets or sharp pieces
on belts can leave permanent scratches or scrape marks on the
surface of the leather.
[ i ] Tips
• After each time you clean the leather and at regular intervals, use
a leather preservative creme that contains UV -blockers and that
works into the leather . This creme wil l nourish and moisturize the
leather, helping it to breathe and stay supple. It also helps to build
up a protective coating on the surface .
• Clean the leather every 2 -3 months, and clean any areas that get
soiled.
• Remove fresh marks made by ballpoint pens, ink, lipstick, shoe
polish, etc. as soon as possible .
• Preserve the color of the leather as needed by using a special
colored leather care creme to touch up areas of uneven color. •
