Master key with remote control
The remote control allows you to lock or unlock the
vehicle electr onically .

The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remote
control. The receiver is loca ted inside the vehicle. The maximum
effective range depends on several things. Remember, if the battery
is weak, the effective range decreases .
I f you need to replace the remote contro l, or if you need to have it
repaired, you must see your authorized Audi dealer . Only then can
you use the key again.
P erson alizing the master key
When the ignition is turned off or when the vehicle is locked, various
convenience settings are stored automatically and assigned to the
key that was used. The se tti ngs that are assigned to the master key
are recalled automatically when the vehicle is unlocked, when the
door is opened or when the ignition is sw itched on .

Remote control key function must be activa ted in the MMI
~ page 98, so that the settings for the driver's seat (including the
settings for the steering column and exterio r mirro rs) are saved on
the master key through the seat m emory when the vehicl e is locked,
and are set automatically whe n the vehicle is unlocked.

• I f the igni tion is switched on, the remote cont rol system is deac ­
tivated .
• The remote control system can be affected by other sys tems
operating in the same frequency range close to the vehicle, such as
mobi le te lephones, television broadcasting stations, etc .

Unl ocking and lo cking with Conve nien ce k ey *
On vehicles wh ich are equipped with the Co nven ienc e key* authori ­
zation system, the doors are unlocked
without a key by means of a
proximity sensor in the door hand le . The doors are simi lar ly locked
without a key using the locking button. Each door has a proximity
sensor and a locking button .
Autom atic lock ing
The automatic locking feature locks all the vehicle doors and the
rear lid when you drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h). This function
can be tu rned on and off in the
MMI Central lock ing Menu
=>
page 55.
You can unlock the vehicle from the inside by :
• removing the key from the ignition switch (the vehicle will auto ­
matically unlock itself) or
• pressing the unlock part of the power lock switch@ or
• pul ling the door handle (twice to open the rear doors).
& WARNING
• When you lock your vehi cle from outside , nobody -especially
c hildren -should rem ain in side the vehi cle. Remember , when you
lock the vehicle from the outs ide the windows cannot b e opened
from the in side.
• Wh en you leav e the vehicle , alw ays r emove the ignition key and
t a ke it with you . This will prevent p assengers (children , for
example ) from ac cidentall y being locked in the veh icle sh ould the y
ac cident ally pre ss the power lock ing swit ch in th e front door s.
• Do not le ave child ren inside the vehicle un supervi sed. In an
emergency it would be impo ssible to open the door s from the
out side without the key.

• In the event of a crash with airbag deployment all locked doors
wi ll be automatically unlocked to give access to the vehicle occu ­
pants from the ou tside.
• I f the power locking system should malfunction, you can lock
each door individually using the vehicle key=>

• If the power locking system should fail, you can still open the
fue l tank flap in an emergency=>
page 329.
• You are well advised not to keep va luables inside an unattended
vehicle, visible or not . Even a properly locked vehic le cannot provide
t he security of a safe. •

power lo cking switch , please note the following: •
You cannot open the doors or the rear lid from the
outside
(increased security, for examp le when you are stopped at a red
l ight).
• The d iodes in the powe r locki ng switch il luminate when all the
doors and the rear lid are c losed and locked .
• All diodes turn dark as soon as one of the doors has been
unlocked.
• You can unlock and open the doors from the inside by pull ing on
the door handle.
• If the driver's door is opened (after you have locked the vehicle
from the inside using the power locking switch), the door will
remain unlocked to prevent you from locking yourse lf out of your
vehic le. After you close the door, you have to lock the driver's door
again.
• I f you have a crash and the airbag is activated, the doors auto ­
matically un lock.
& WARNING
• If you use the po wer lock ing switch w ith the doors clo sed ,
remember that all the vehicle doors will lo ck .
• Locking doors from the inside c an help prevent in adverte nt
door openin g dur ing an a ccident and can al so prevent unw ant ed

Folding center seat back down
-Press the re lease button => page 104, fig. 103. The red
mark on the re lease lever is visible.

- Raise the seatback unti l it is securely latched=>& . It is
secure ly latched when the red mark on the release button
is no longer visible.
The center seat back can be fo lded forward separately . Using this
loading opt ion, long objects (e.g. skis) can be carr ied in the interior.

• When folding the backrest back into place, make sure the safety
belt does not get caught, because it can be da maged . A damaged
belt can fail to provide safe restraint .

In a collision, the laws of physics mean that even smaller items that
are loose in the vehicle wi ll turn into heavy missiles tha t can cause
serious injury . Items in the vehic le pick up kinetic energy which
varies with the vehicle and the weight of the item. Vehicle speed is
the most significant factor.
For example, in a frontal collision at a speed of 30 mph (48 km/hl,
the forces acting on a 10 -lb (4 .5 kg) object are about
20 times the
normal weight of the item . This means that the weight of the item
would suddenly be the equivalent of about 200 lbs (90 kgl. One can
easi ly imagine the injuries that an item of that weight flying freely
through the passenger compartment can cause in a co llision at a
speed considered relatively low .

ment that can be adjusted lengthwise for securing items
o f baggage and oth er objec ts.

• Never attach a child safety seat tether strap to a tie-down. •

The cargo net prevents light objects from sliding around
in the luggage compartment.

Next, hang the front hooks in the fastening eyelets.
Then, hang the
rear hooks in the fasten ing eyelets .
& WARNING
For strength-related reasons, the mounting hooks can only be
used to secure objects weighing up to 10 lb . (5 kg). Heavier objects
will not be adequately secured -there is a risk of injury .

be attached to the adjustable tie-down rings. •

- To install the cargo floor, set the front of it into the guides
and push it in the direction of the seatback until it
engages.
You can also store small items under the cargo floor.
The storage room in the protective tray can be enlarged by folding
the cargo floor forward or removing it.
The protective tray can be removed upward by the grip .
On vehicles with
6 or 7 seats * the cargo floor cannot be folded up ,
only raised. If the cargo floor is removed, the hooks must be pushed
into the guides unde r the third row sea ting when the cargo floor is
re -installed.
& WARNING
When the cargo floor is folded upright, the items being trans­
ported must not exceed the maximum cargo height, 2/3 of the
cargo floor space with the floor folded forward, or a weight of
about 33 lb. (15 kg).

We recommend that you use a tie-down s trap to secure objects to
the tie -down eyelets on the right and left sides of the vehicle .•

securing strap.
Telescoping track
- Set the holder for the telescoping track in the opening of
the track system.
- Push the holder down

time, slide it into the desired position @.
- Check that the holder has latched into place.

snowboards to be carried inside the vehicle.
