Switch for sunshade
The two segments of the Panoramic sliding sunroof are
each equipped with a sunshade for protection against the
sun's rays. The front shade is power operated, the rear
shade is opened and closed manually . To prevent the
vehicle interior from heating up, you should close both
sunshades when you park your veh icle in the sun.
Opening and closing front sunshade
-Tap the rear -M r of the rocker switch :::::, page 69, fig. 54 or
the rocker switch for rear-seat passengers :::::, fig. 55
briefly to open the sunshade fully.

- To set an intermediate position manually, press the front
or rear of the rocker switch (depending on the position of
the shade)

Opening and closing rear sunshade
-Hold the sunshade by the grip and push it to the desired
position.

Never close the sunshade without paying attention or checking -
danger of injury! •

Emergency closing
In an emergency, the Panoramic sliding sunroof can be
closed electrically.
The Panoramic sliding sunroof is equipped with overload
protection.
If it cannot be closed in normal operation, it can
still be closed using the emergency closing function.
Emergency closing of front roof segment
- Turn the switch :::::, page 68, fig. 52@ to the normal posi­

& WARNING
Improper use of the Panoramic sliding sunroof can cause serious
personal injury.
• Be careful when closing the Panoramic sliding sunroof. Not
paying attention could cause you or others to be trapped and
injured as the Panoramic sliding sunroof closes.
• Always take the key with you when you leave the vehicle to
prevent injuries caused by the Panoramic sliding sunroof closing .,,_

• Never leave children or persons requiring assistance alone in
the vehicle, especially when they could access the vehicle keys.
Unsupervised use of the keys can result in the engine being
started or use of vehicle systems such as the power windows, etc.
which could result in serious injury. The doors could be locked
with the remote key, delaying help in an emergency.
• The Panoramic sliding sunroof will continue to operate until the
ignition key has been removed and one of the front doors has been
opened .•

To prevent the battery from being discharged and to restore the
balance of energy, components which require large amounts of
energy are temporarily cut back or switched off=>
page 295.
Heating systems in particular require a great deal of energy. If you
notice, for example, that the seat * or rear window heating is not
heating, they have been temporarily cut back or switched off by
ene rg y m anage ment. These systems are available again as soon as
the energy balance has been res tored .

• Completely familiarize your self with the proper use and fun c­
tion of the heat ing and ventilat ion system and e spe cia lly how to
defog and defrost the windows .
• Neve r use the wind shield wipe r/w asher syste m in free zing
weather until y ou have warmed the wind shield first , usi ng the
heat ing and ventil ation system . The wash er solution m ay freeze
on the wind shield and r educe vi sibilit y.

• If you suspect that the air conditioner has been damaged, turn
on ECON and contact an authorized Audi dealer to have the system
inspected.
• Repairs to the Audi air conditioner require special technical
know ledge and special to ols. Contact an authorized Audi dea ler for
assistance.

• Keep the air intake slots (in front of the windsh ie ld) free from ice,
snow and debris in order to maintain the proper function of the
climate contro l system.
• Air inside the vehicle escapes through air vents located in the
s ide tr im panels beneath the rear side windows. Make sure that the
out let slots are not covered by clothing, etc.
• Climate control works most effectively if the windows and the
Panoramic s liding sunroof* are c losed. However, if the interior of a
parked vehic le is extreme ly hot from the sun's rays, briefly opening
the windows can speed up the cooling process. •

Warm and cold -
-------------------'
- To adjust the direction o f the airflow from the o utlet,
move the tab in the cen ter of the o utlet in the desired
direction . The direction of the air delivered from the
vents can be adjusted hor izontally and vertically .
The air outlets are actuated either automatically or manually
depending on the operating mode selected . Heated or unheated
fresh air, or cooled air flows from the vents .
The air outlets to heat the rear footwell are located under the front seats.

If the climate control system is operating in cooling mode, air flows
primarily from the outlets in the center console and in the door
pillars . To achieve adequate cooling, you should never close the
out lets completely .•
Using climate control economically
Using the climate controls prudently can help save fuel.
When you use the a ir conditioner, engine power is reduced
and fuel consumption increases. To save fuel, you should
use the air conditioner only when necessary . A lso please
note the follow ing po ints:
- If you want to save fuel, activate ECON.
- If yo u are g oing to dr ive wit h the w indows or Panorami c
sliding sunroof* open, use ECON .
- If the ve hicle is e xtremely ho t due to the heat of t he s un,
br iefly open doors and windows .

Rear air conditioning -controls
This overview is to assist you in familiarizing yourself with
the rear air conditioning controls.

The left disp lay indicates the temperature selected for the rear left
passenger, the right display indicates the temperature se lected for
the rear right passenger. If the sett ings for seat heating*, air distri ­
bution or the air conditioning fan are changed, the relevant indi­
cator will appear briefly on the MMI Display.
Each function is turned on or off by briefly p ressing the corre ­
sponding button. T he indicator light in the button illuminates when
t he function is active. .,

& WARNING
Improperly stored luggage or other items can fly through the
vehicle causing serious personal injury in the event of hard braking or an accident. To help reduce the risk of serious personal injury:
• Always put objects, for example, luggage or other heavy items
in the luggage compartment.
• Always secure objects in the luggage compartment using the
tie-down eyelets and suitable straps.
& WARNING
Heavy loads will influence the way your vehicle handles. To help
reduce the risk of a loss of control leading to serious personal
injury :
• Always keep in mind when transporting heavy objects, that a
change in the center of gravity can also cause changes in vehicle
handling:
-Always distribute the load as evenly as possible.
- Place heavy objects as far forward in the luggage compart-
ment as possible.
• Never exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating or the Gross
Vehicle Weight Rating specified on the safety compliance sticker on the left door jamb. Exceeding permissible weight standards
can cause the vehicle to slide and handle differently.
• Please observe information on safe driving

& WARNING
To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from being drawn into the
vehicle, always keep the rear lid closed while driving.
• Never transport objects larger than those fitting completely
into the luggage area because the rear lid cannot be fully closed.

• If you absolutely must drive with the rear lid open, observe the
following notes to reduce the risk of poisoning :
- Close all windows,
- Close the Panoramic sliding sunroof*,
- Open all air outlets in the instrument panel,
- Switch off the air recirculation,
- Set the fresh air fan to the highest speed.
& WARNING
Always make sure that the doors, all windows, the Panoramic
sliding sunroof* and the rear lid are securely closed and locked to
reduce the risk of injury when the vehicle is not being used.
• After closing the rear lid, always make sure that it is properly
closed and locked .
• Never leave your vehicle unattended especially with the rear lid
left open. A child could crawl into the vehicle through the luggage
compartment and close the rear lid becoming trapped and unable
to get out . Being trapped in a vehicle can lead to serious personal
injury.
• Never let children play in or around the vehicle.
• Never let passengers ride in the luggage compartment . Vehicle
occupants must always be properly restrained in one of the
vehicle's seating positions.

• Air circulation helps to reduce window fogging. Stale air escapes
to the outside through vents in the trim panel. Be sure to keep these
slots free and open.
• The tire pressure must correspond to the load. The tire pressure
is shown on the tire pressure label. On USA vehicles, the tire pres- .,_

found on the safety compliance l abel on the driver's side B -pillar ,
must never be ex ceeded under any cir cumstances . E xceeding the

your vehicle , and such damage w ill not be covered by your Limited
New Vehicle Warranty. Exceeding the Gro ss Vehicle Weight Rating
will also change the performan ce and handling characteristics of
your vehicle , which could cause a crash resulting in serious injury

Panoramic sliding sunroof ; third -row seating ; trailer towing equip ­

With a factory-installed trai ler hitch, the maximum permissible
trai ler weight is 6,615 lbs (3,000 kg). The maximum permissible
unbraked trailer weight is 1,650 lbs (750 kgl. With an
aftermarket
tr ailer h itch , the maxi mum pe rm iss ib le tra iler weigh t is 5,51 2 lb s (2,500
kg). These specifications apply when driv ing on roads having
an in cli ne of less t han 12% .
Permissible tongue load
Fo r best v ehicle ha ndling under th es e changed con ditio ns, a dju st
the trai ler load so that the tongue load is at the maximum allowable
or s lightly lower. Y ou ca n ge t an ap proxi mati on of the tong ue load
with a bathroom sca le or you can measure the load at a trucking
company or weig hing s tati on.
Wtih a
factory -installed trailer hi tch, the max imum perm issib le load
on the ball hitch may not exceed 66 2 lbs (300 kg) . With an
after­
market
t ra iler hitc h, the max imum pe rmi ssible loa d on the ball h itch
may not exceed 55 1 lbs (250 kg). It is recommended to use the
m aximum p ermi ssi ble l oad.
Trailer load distribution B e sure the load in the trai ler is he ld securel y in place to prevent it
from shifting forward, backward or sideways.
Never allow a passenger to ride in a trailer=> & in "D riving ins truc­
tions" on page 307.
Ball mount
T he trai ler hitch may only be used with suitab le ball mount and ball
=> fig. 276 . In sta llati on of t he hitch ball must be ca rr ie d o ut i n a ccor ­
dance with the manufacturer's instructions. At the height dimen­
s io n of 1 .5 in (38 .5 mm) a tole ran ce o f+/- 0 .5 in (12 .7 mm) is pe rmis ­
sib le.
Engine cooling system
T owing a trai ler makes the engine work harder. It is important that
th e c ooli ng system 's per forman ce is u p to the a ddi tiona l loa d. Ma ke
sure that the coo ling s ystem has enough f luid.
Tire pressure
When towing a trailer, inflate the tires of your vehic le to the cold tire
p re ssure l is ted unde r "Full load" on th e tire press ure l abe l. On USA
vehic les, the tire pressure label is located on the driver's side 8 -

Cleaning and protection -

Under certain circumstances, weekly washing may be necessary.
Under other conditions , a monthly washing and waxing may be
adequate .
After the winter, the
underside of the vehicle should be thoroughly
washed, preferably in a professional car wash.

Automatic car wash
The vehicle can be washed in almost any modern auto­
matic car wash.
The vehicle paint is so durable that the vehicle can normally be
washed without problems in an automatic car wash . However, the
effect on the paint depends to a large extent on the design of the
facility, the filtering of the wash water , the type of wash and care
material, etc. If the paint has a dull appearance after going through
the car wash or is scratched , bring this to the attention of the oper­
ator immediately . If necessary, use a different car wash .
Before going through a car wash, be sure to take the usual precau­
tions such as closing the windows and the Panoramic sliding
sunroof. Factory installed antennas must not be removed.
If you have installed additional accessories on the vehicle - such as
spoilers, roof rack, etc. -it is best to ask the car wash operator if
these should be removed .
& WARNING
Please take note of the following points before going through an
automatic car wash with your vehicle, so that you can avoid
damage to your vehicle.

• Compare the track of your vehicle with the distance between
the guide rails of the facility -there is a risk of damage to the
wheels and tires .
• Compare the height and width of your vehicle with the height
and width of the tunnel at the facility.
• Fold the exterior mirrors flat -there is a risk of damaging the
exterior mirrors. Power folding exterior mirrors* must not be
folded in or out by hand. Use the power function!
• Do not allow the wiper blade to fall onto the windshield after
the vehicle is dried -there is a risk of damaging the paint on the
hood.
• Always read and heed all WARNINGS and other information
~ page312. •
Washing the vehicle by hand
A lot of water is needed when washing a vehicle by hand.
Before you start washing, make sure you have read and
understood the WARNINGS ::::>
& in "General informa­
tion" on page 312.
- First soak all dried dirt until it is soft, then rinse it off.
- As you clean your vehicle, start with the roof and work
your way down to the bottom, using a sponge, a sponge
glove or a clean brush.
Rinse the sponge or the sponge glove often, flushing it
clean each time.
- Use special car shampoo only for very persistent dirt.
Rinse the car thoroughly with water.
Use a chamois leather to gently wipe the exterior dry.
