In addition to this Owner's Manual, your Audi comes with a
Warranty
& Maintenance booklet.
Moreover, depending on the model and the equ ipment, there may
be additional instruction booklets delivered with your vehicle (for
example, Operating Instructions for your Sound System, Navigation
System etc .) .
If you are missing one of these publications, or if you believe that
the information is not comp lete, contact your authorized Audi
dea ler for assistance.
The Warranty & Maintenance booklet
exp lains how you can keep your Audi in top driving condition by
having it serviced regularly and contains detai led information about
the warranties covering your Audi . Always have the booklet with you
when you take your vehicle to an authorized Audi dea ler for service.
Your Audi Service Adviser will record each scheduled service and
can answer any questions you may have regarding how to ma inta in
your vehicle.

Driver information display
Introduction
General notes
The driver information display inside the instrument
cluster provides you , the driver, with much useful infor­
mation.

The driver information system updates important information in the
c e nter display in clear view of the driver . In an easy to und erstand
format, the display tells you how your vehicle is functioning
a t the
c u rre nt mo ment .
For example, the display can tell you how many
mi les (kilometres) you can still dr ive unt il it is time to bring your
vehic le to your authorized Audi dealer for a scheduled Maintenance
Service . This feature helps preventing costly repairs . It is just one of
many different items of information available for recall . The display
also gives you a "status report" whenever the
so und and navi gati on
systems are being used . The operation of Audi Navigation System *
is described in a separate booklet.
The Driver Information System provides the following functions: Sound system display

• If your vehicle has an automatic transmission , the various
display contents will appear only after you have moved the selector
lever into
R , D or S.
• In the event of a ma lfuction either a red or yellow icon appears
in the display. Red symbols indicate
Dan ger => page 30. Yellow

If priority 1 or priority 2 faults are not shown by the Auto Check
Control, the name of the radio station you are tuned to or the
frequency and the reception range are shown in the upper area of
the display .
When the CD is in use , the title of the track being p layed is shown .
The number of the CD (CD1 to CD6) currently being played is also
shown. •

The outside temperature will be displayed when you switch on the
ignition=> fig. 11 . If your vehicle has an Automa tic transmission , the

outside temperature will appear in the disp lay only after you have
moved the selector lever into a gear (for example, when you shift
into
" D ") .
The snowflake symbo l a lso appears when the outside temperature
is between 41 °F (+5 °C) and 23 °F (-5 °Cl. Th is is to warn you, the
driver, to be extra cautious because the road surfaces may be
i c y . If
the vehicle is at a standstill, or if you are driving at a very low speed, the temperature shown in the display might be slightly higher than
the actua l outs ide temperature. This is caused by the heat be ing
radiated from the engine.
Remember , if your vehicle is equipped with a ir conditioning and you
change the display from °F (Fahrenhei t) to °C (Centigrade), then the
outside temperature will automatically be displayed in

- Push in the uppe r (lower) protrusion on the function
se lector switch @to scroll up (down) through the trip
computer functions~
page 38, fig. 24. The fu nctions for
the trip computer a re d isp layed in succession on the
respective memory leve ls. Keep the switch pushed unt il
the desired display appears .

- Tap the Rest button @
briefly to reach the various menu
levels one after the other ("Computer 1 ", "Computer 2",
"Navigation system"* and "Start menu") .
Res etting th e function to zero
- Selec t the desired func tion.
Push the reset button @for at least two seco nds .
The trip computer on ly operates when the ignition is on. When you
turn on the ignition, the function that was in use when you last
turned the ignition off will be displayed.
In addition to the trip computer information (memory level 1 or 2)
and navigation information can be displayed. To switch the d isp lay
between the different systems, tap the Reset button
@ briefly.
You can reset the fol lowing va lues to zero using the reset button:
• driving time
• average mileage
• average speed
In addition,
a ll the values in the single -trip or the total -trip memory
can be deleted s imu ltaneously .

• If you hold down the reset button for longer than 2 seconds, the
current value (for example, average fuel consumption) will be reset
to zero.
• Malfunction displays in Auto-Check Control are shown even with
the display sw itched off.
• All stored values will be lost if the vehic le battery is
disconnected. •

Cleaning and protection -

High temperatures, as from exposure to intense sunlight, intensify
the corrosive effect particularly when humidity is high as well.
Under certain circumstances,
weekly washing may be necessary.
Under other conditions, a monthly washing and waxing may be
adequate.
After the winter, the
underside of the vehicle should be thoroughly
washed preferably in a professional car wash.

Always read and heed all WARNINGS and the information
~ page 230. •
Automatic car wash
The vehicle can be washed in almost any modern auto­
matic car wash.
The vehicle paint is so durable that the vehicle can normally be
washed without problems in an automatic car wash. However, the
effect on the paint depends to a large extent on the design of the
facility, the filtering of the wash water, the type of wash and care
material , etc. If the paint has a dull appearance after going through
the car wash or is scratched, bring this to the attention of the oper­
ator immediately . If necessary, use a different car wash .
The power top does not require specia l precautions before passing
through a car wash.
However, the car must not be treated with hot
wax after the wash cycle!
The wax could adversely affect the power
top and even damage the fabric over a period of time.
The power top does not have to be washed every time you use a car
wash . The power top can be spared if the car wash facility is
equipped with manually adjustable roof brushes or rollers.
Before going through a car wash, be sure to take the usual precau­
tions such as closing the windows and power top. The factory-fitted antennas for the radio, car phone and navigation system* are all
located inside the vehicle interior.
If you have installed additional accessories on the vehicle
-such as
spoilers, etc. -it is best to ask the car wash operator if these should
be removed.

Washing the vehicle by hand
A lot of water is needed when washing a vehicle by hand.
- Before you start washing, make sure you have read and
understood the WARNINGS=>
& in "General informa­
tion" on page 230.
- First soak all dried dirt until it is soft, then rinse it off.
- As you clean your vehicle, start with the roof and work
your way down to the bottom, using a sponge, a sponge
glove or a clean brush.
- Rinse the sponge or the sponge glove often, flushing it
clean each time.
- Use special car shampoo only for very persistent dirt.
- Rinse the car thoroughly with water.
- Use a chamois leather to gently wipe the exterior dry.
Use a separate sponge for cleaning the wheels, door sills and other
regions exposed to road dirt. In this way, you wil l not scratch the
paint with coarse particles imbedded in the sponge the next time
you wash the car. ..,.

standards . Therefore, vehic les built for the U .S .A. and Canada differ
from veh icles sold in other countries .
If you plan to take your vehic le outside the continental limits of the
United States or Canada, there is the possibility that
• unleaded fue ls for vehicles with cata lyt ic converter may not be
available;
• f uel may have a considerably lower octane rat ing . Imprope r fuel
may cause engine damage;
• service may be inadequate due to lack of proper service facilities,
tools or testing equipment;
• replacement parts may not be readily avai lable . •
Navigation systems for vehicles built for the U.S.A . and Canada
