Instrument cluster illumination
It is possible to adjust the instrument cluster illumination.

- Press the"+" button to increase the brightness.
Press the"-" button to dim the br ightness.
A light sensor in the instrument cluster controls the illumination for
the instrument cluster, the center conso le and the displays.
The illumination for the instrument cluster lights up whenever you switch on the ignition with the
ve hic le head lights off. As the
daylight fades, the instrument c luster illumination likewise dims
automatically and wi ll go out complete ly when the outside light is
very low . This feature is meant to remind you to switch on the head ­
lights when the outside light conditions become poor. •

Speedometer with odometer
The speedometer shows you the vehicle speed, and the
odometer shows you how many miles (kilometers) you
have driven .

The odometer and trip odometer are located inside the speedom ­
eter.
• USA models - Miles
• Canada models - Ki lometers
Lo wer odomet er
The lower odometer shows the tota l number of miles (ki lometers)
driven.
Upp er odom ete r (t rip odo m ete r)
The upper odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven since you last reset the odometer to zero. You can use this
odometer when you want to keep track of how many miles (kilome­
ters) you have driven for a single trip or errand. The last digit indi­ cates 1/10 of a mile (100 meters). You can set the trip odometer back
to zero by pressing the reset button

The information disappears after approximately 5 seconds.
Setting the speed warning
By pressing the [ CHECK I button you can set speed warning 1
=> page 36 while the vehicle i s moving .
Speed warning 2* => page 36 can only be set with the ignition
switched off. •
Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when your next
service is due.

With the ignition on, briefly push button G) to display the distance
remaining (miles/kilometers) until the next service is due . You can
recall the service countdown with the engine in id le or while driving
at a slow speed up to
3 mph (5 km/h). The remaining distance will
be updated every
300 miles (500 km) :
On a new vehicle, or immediately after a service has been
performed, the following message will be displayed:
Service in ···· mi (km) ··· days
For the the first 300 miles (500 km) of driving after a service , the
display will keep showing dashes. This is
NOT a malfunction. Rather,

the system needs the mileage to (re-Jodjust to your driving style . Only
then can it start generating and updating figures for the distance and
days until the next scheduled service.
Service reminder
As soon as less than 1,200 miles (2,000 kilometers) of driving are left
before the next due service, the following message will be displayed
when you switch on the ignition :
Service in 1,200 mi (2,000 km)··· days
After about five seconds the display switches back. Each time you
switch on the ignition, the distance will be updated until the next
service date is reached.
Service due
If service is due immediately, Service! will appear in the display
immediately after switching on the ignition . The display switches
back after about five seconds.
Resetting the display
Your authorized Audi dealer will reset the display after performing
the scheduled service. If the service is not performed by an autho ­
rized Audi dealer, the display must then be reset as follows:
• Switch off the ignition.
• Press and ho ld the Service button
G)=> fig. 7, then switch on the
ignition . One of the fol lowing messages appears in the display:
Service in ···· miles or Service!.
• Press the reset button @ until either of the the following
messages appears in the display:
Service in ····miles··· days or
Service!
After about five seconds the display switches back.

• Do not reset the display between service intervals. Doing so will
resu lt in an incorrect display.

• The service display information will remain intact even if the
battery is disconnected .
• If a priority 1 malfunction is detected (red symbol), you cannot
display the distance remaining. •
Reset button
The "0.0" button=> page 17, fig. 7 @ performs the following func­
tions :
Resetting the trip odometer
The upper odometer (trip odometer) => page 15 can be reset back to
zero by pressing the reset button.
Resetting the service interval
The service interva l display=> page 17 can be reset by pressing the
reset button (first select the "reset" mode in the service indicator
display). •
Warning /indicator lights
Overview
The warning/indicator lights indicate different functions
or a possible malfunction.

Defective light bulb warning The defective light bulb warning tells you when a vehicle
light bulb has become defective.
If a defective bulb has been detected by the system or a light bulb
burns out, the symbol with a message appears in the display to
tell you which bulb is burnt out and where it is located. For example:

After 5 seconds, the message disappears . If you want to reca ll the
message into the display, press the CHECK button .
There are three reasons why the defective bulb message would appear in the display:
• the light bu lb has burnt out~
page 302.
• the fuse is "blown"~ page 300, "Replacing a fuse" .
• the wire connection to the light bulb is defective .
Have the bulb replaced or the connection repaired by your autho­
rized Audi Service department .

Speed warning system
Overview
The spee d warning system helps you to keep your driving
speed below a set speed limit.

The speed warning system warns the driver if he exceeds a previ ­
ously stored maximum speed . A warning tone wi ll sound as soon as
the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed by about 3 miles per hour (3 km/hl. At the same time, a warning symbo l appears in the display

The speed warning system has
two warning thre sh old s that func­
tion independently of each other and that have somewhat different
purposes :
Speed warning 1
You can use speed warning 1 to set the maximum speed while you
are driving . This setting will remain in effect un til you turn off the
ignition, assuming that you have not changed or reset the setting.
The speed warning symbol
C-~ (USA models)/ (Canada models) in
the warning 1 display appears when you exceed the maximum speed . It goes out when the speed falls below the stored maximum
speed. .,

The speed warning symbol will also go out if the speed exceeds the
stored maximum speed by more than about 25 mph (40 km/h) for at
least 10 seconds. The stored maximum speed is de leted .

Speed warning 2
Storing warning 2 is recommended if you
always want to be
reminded of a certain speed, for example when you are traveling in
a country that has a general maximum speed limit, or if you do not
want to exceed a specified speed for winter tires.
The speed warning 2 symbol,
~ (USA models)/ :, (Canada models)
appears in the disp lay when you exceed the stored speed limit.
Unlike warning 1, it will not go out until the vehicle speed drops
below the stored speed limit.

Even though your vehicle is equipped with a speed warning system,
you should still watch the speedometer to make sure you are not
driving faster than the speed limit .•
Speed warning 1 : setting a speed limit
Warning threshold 1 is set by the CHECK button.

Storing th e maximum speed
- Drive at the desired maximum speed.
- Briefly press the CHECK button

- Drive the veh icle at a speed of at least 3 mph (5 km/h)
- Press the CHECK button for at least two seconds.
The speed warning symbol _ f _ _ (Canada models) appears briefly
in the display when you release the button to indicate that the
maximum speed has been stored successful ly. The maximum speed
wi ll remain stored in the system until i t is changed by briefly
pressing the button again or unti l it is reset by holding down the
button for at least two seconds. •
Speed warning 2: setting a speed limit
Switches in the wiper arm are used to operate warning
threshold 2 .

Press the CHECK button for at least two seconds. The
currently stored maximum speed

maximum speed has not yet been set.

=> fig. 22 up or down to change the set value . The values
increase or decrease in increments of 6 .2 mph (10 km/h).

- Briefly p ress the CHECK button in the instrument cluster
=> page 36, fig. 21. The odometer and the digital clock
will now illuminate briefly .
- Press the CHECK button for at least two seconds. The
cu rrently stored maximum speed will appear in the
disp lay.

- Press the rese t button in the wiper arm@=> fig. 22 until
t h e d isplay shows the symbol for spe ed warning 2
crossed out w ith a line .
The odometer and the digital clock disp lays wi ll go out again a few
seconds after this adjustment is completed .•
Trip computer
Introduction
The trip computer gives you information on current and
average fuel mileage, average speed, fuel range and
driving time.

You can switch between the trip computer 1 and 2 by pressing the
Reset button

You can tell which memory level is currently active by the number in
the display => fig. 23. The data from the single -trip memory
(memory level 1 l is being displayed if a
1 appears in the display. If a
2 is shown, then the data from the total -trip memory is being

The single -trip memory stores the trip informa tion from the time the
ignition is turned on until it is turned off. If the trip is continued
w ithin 2 hour s from the time the ignition was turned off, the new
data will be included in the calculation of the current trip informa­
tion. If the trip is interrupted for
mo re t han 2 ho ur s the memory is
reset automatically.

Un like the s ingle-trip memory, the total -trip memory is not reset
automatically . This permits you to evaluate your driving data for the
entire period between manua l resets .
Fuel r an ge
The es timated cruising range in miles (km) appears in the display .
This tells you how far your vehicle wil l be able to trave l on the
current tank of fuel and with the same driving style. The display
changes in increments of 6 miles (10 km).
The cruising range is ca lculated based on the fuel consumption for
the last 18 miles (30 km). If you drive conservatively, the cruising
range will increase.
Ave rage f uel m ileage
The average fuel economy in MPG (1/100 km) s ince you last cleared
the memory appears in this display. You can use this disp lay to
adjust your driving technique to achieve a desired mileage.
Curren t fue l mile age
The instantaneous fuel consumption in mi les per ga llon (1/100 km)
is shown in this display. You can use this disp lay to adjust your
driving technique to achieve a desired mileage.
Fuel consumption is recalcu lated at intervals of 33 yards (30
meters). When the vehic le is stationary, the most recent fuel
consumption is displayed.
A ve ra ge speed
The average speed in mph (km/h) since the last time the display was
reset appears in the display.
Elapsed time
The length of time that you have been driving since you last reset
the memory appears in this display .
Distance
The elapsed distance since the last time the memory was cleared
appears in the disp lay. The maximum distance that can be recorded
is 9,999.9 m iles (9,999 .9 kilomete rs) .

A ll stored values will be lost if the vehicle battery is disconnected .•
Operation
The trip computer is controlled by two switches on the
windshield wiper lever.
