discs and inside the audio system, preventing normal operation. • When there is high humidity (for example, when it israining). • When the temperature suddenly
rises, such as right after
the heater is turned on in cold weather. In this case, wait until the moisture has had time to dry out.

When the CD player is subj
ected to violent vibrations,
such as during off-road dr
iving, the tracking may not
work.

When storing compact discs,
always store them in their
separate cases. Never place compact discs in direct sun-light, or in any place where th
e temperature or humidity is
high.
●
Never touch the flat surface of the disc without a label. This will damage the disc surface and could affect the sound quality. When handling a compact disc, alwayshold it by the outer
edge and the centre hole.
●
To clean a disc, use a soft, cl
ean, dry cloth. Wipe directly
from the centre hole toward the outer edge. Do not wipe in a circle. Never use any chemicals such as benzine, paint thinner, a disc spray cleaner, or
an anti-static agent on the
disc.
●
Do not use a ball point pen, felt pen, pencil, etc. to write on the label surface of the disc.

To remove the spare tyre

1. Open the backdoor. 2. Open the lids (A) inside of the backdoor.
CAUTION

Grasp the spare wheel firmly when removing or attaching it.

When removing the spare wheel, put on gloves. Removing the spare wheel with your bare hands may cause injury to the fingers.
●
The tyre pressure should
be periodically checked
and maintained at the speci
fied pressure while the
tyre is stowed.Driving with an insufficient tyre pressure can lead to an accident. If you have no choice but to drive with an insufficient tyre pres
sure, keep your speed down
and inflate the tyre to the
correct pressure as soon as
possible. (Refer to “Tyre
inflation pressures” on
page 8-19.)

Towing the vehicle by a tow truck
CAUTION

This vehicle must not be towed by a tow truck using sling lift type equipment
(Type A) as illustrated.
Using a sling lift will damage the bumper and front end.
●
Be sure to shift the tran
sfer shift lever to the “2H”
position and transport the vehicle with the driving wheels on a carriage (Type C, D or E) as illustrated.Never try to tow with the
transfer shift lever in the
“4H”, “4HLC” or “4LLC” positions and with the front or rear wheels on the ground (Type B or TypeC) as illustrated. This coul
d result in the driving sys-
tem damage or vehicle may
jump at the carriage. If
you cannot shift the transf
er shift lever to the “2H”
position or the transmission is malfunctioning or damaged, transport the ve

Towing with front wheels off the ground (Type B)Place the gearshift lever in the

steering wheel in a straight-

Never tow an automatic transmission vehicle with the front wheels up (and the rear wheels on theground) (Type B) when the automatic transmission fluid level is low. This may cause serious and expen- sive damage to the transmission.

As your vehicle equipped with the Active Stability & Traction Control system (A
STC) is towed with the
ignition switch in the “ON” position and only thefront wheels or only the rear wheels raised off the ground, the active traction control system may oper- ate, resulting in an accident.

Emergency towingIf towing service is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be temporarily towed by a rope secured to the towinghook. If your vehicle is to be towed by another vehicle or if your vehicle tows another vehicle, pa
y careful attention to the fol-
lowing points:If your vehicle is to be towed by another vehicle1. The front towing hooks (A) and rear towing hooks (B) are
located as shown in the illustrations. Secure the tow ropeto the towing hook.
NOTE●
Using a wire rope or metal chain can result in damage to the vehicle body. It is best
to use a non-metallic rope. If
you use a wire rope or metal chain, wrap it with cloth atany point where it touches the vehicle body.
●
Use care that the tow rope is
kept as horizontal as possi-
ble. An angled tow rope can damage the vehicle body.
●
Secure the tow rope to the same side towing hook, to keep the tow rope as straight as possible.

2. Keep the engine running.
If the engine is not running, turn the ignition switch to the “ACC” or “ON” position to unlock the steering wheel.
3. Place the gearshift lever in
the “N” (Neutral) position
(with manual transmission) or the selector lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position (with automatic transmission).
4. Shift the transfer shift lever to the “2H” position. 5. Turn on the hazard warning
lamps if required by law.
(Follow the local driving laws and regulations.)
6. During towing make sure th
at close contact is maintained
between the drivers of both ve
hicles, and that the vehicles
travel at low speed.
CAUTION
!●
When the engine is not r
unning, the brake booster
and power steering pump do not operate. This means higher brake depression force and highersteering effort are required.
Therefore, vehicle oper-
ation is more difficult than usual.
●
Do not leave the key in the “LOCK” position or do not remove the ignition ke
y from the ignition switch
while driving. The steering
wheel will lock, causing
loss of control.
CAUTION
!●
Avoid sudden braking,
sudden acceleration and
sharp turning; such opera
tion could cause damage
to the towing hooks or the tow rope.People in the vicinity coul
d be injured as a result.

When towing or being towed down a long slope, the brakes may overheat reduci
ng the effectiveness. In
this situation, have your
vehicle transported by a
tow truck.

matic transmission is to
