Introduction
VEHICLE BREAK-IN
PROCESS
No special break-in period is need-
ed. By following a few simple precau-
tions for the first 1,000 km (600
miles) you may add to the perform-
ance, economy and life of your vehi-
cle.
 Do not race the engine.
 Do not maintain a single speed forlong periods of time, either fast or
slow. Varying engine speed is
needed to properly break-in the
engine.
 Avoid hard stops, except in emer- gencies, to allow the brakes to seat
properly.
 Avoid full-throttle starts.

CAUTION
Use only Kia original parts for
the ignition key in your vehicle.If an aftermarket key is used, theignition switch may not return to ON after START. If this hap-pens, the starter will continue tooperate causing damage to the starter motor and possible firedue to excessive current in thewiring.
The key code number is stamped on
the plate attached to the key set.
Should you lose your keys, this num-
ber will enable an authorized Kia
Dealer to duplicate the keys easily.
Remove the plate and store it in a
safe place. Also, record the code
number and keep it in a safe and
handy place, but not in the vehicle. Key operations
Master key
Used to start the engine, lock and
unlock the doors, lock and unlock the
glove box (if equipped), and open the
trunk (if equipped).

WARNING
- Ignition key
Leaving children unattended in
a vehicle with the ignition key is
dangerous even if the key is not
in the ignition. Children copy
adults and they could place the
key in the ignition. The ignition
key would enable children to
operate power windows or other
controls, or even make the vehi-
cle move, which could result in
serious bodily injury or even
death. Never leave the keys in
your vehicle with unsupervised
children.

To deactivate the immobilizer sys- tem:
Insert the ignition key into the key
cylinder and turn it to the ON posi-tion.
To activate the immobilizer sys- tem:
Turn the ignition key to the OFF posi-
tion. The immobilizer system acti-
vates automatically. Without a valid
ignition key for your vehicle, the
engine will not start.✽✽
NOTICE
When starting the engine, do not use
the key with other immobilizer keys
around.Otherwise the engine may not start
or may stop soon after it starts. Keepeach key separately not to have any
malfunction after you receive yournew vehicle.CAUTION
The transponder in your ignition key is an important part of theimmobilizer system. It isdesigned to give years of trou- blefree service, however youshould avoid exposure to mois-ture, static electricity and roughhandling. Immobilizer system
CAUTION
Do not change, alter or adjust the immobilizer system becauseit could cause the immobilizersystem to malfunction and should only be serviced by anauthorized Kia dealer.Malfunctions caused by improp-er alterations, adjustments or modifications to the immobilizersystem are not covered by yourvehicle manufacturer warranty.

Do not put metal accessories near the key or ignition key.

In order to prevent theft of your
vehicle, do not leave spare keys
anywhere in your vehicle. Your
Immobilizer password is a cus-
tomer unique password and
should be kept confidential. Do
not leave this number anywhere
in your vehicle.

To unfold the rear seat:
1. Move the rear center shoulder belt
(1 , if equipped) to the side so that it
is clear of the seatback.
2. Lift and push the seatback backward firmly until it clicks into place ( 2).
Move and push the seat cushion
downward firmly to the proper posi-
tion (5 Door, if equipped).
3. Return the rear safety belt to the proper position.
✽✽ NOTICE
If the seat belt is locked during the seatback folding, pull out and
retract the seat belt to release it.
CAUTION
When returning the rear seat- backs to the upright position,remember to return the rear shoulder belts to their properposition.
Do not remove the floor carpet in your vehicle. Emission con-trol system components cause high exhaust tempera-tures under the floor.
WARNING - Cargo
Cargo should always be
secured to prevent it from being
thrown about the vehicle in a
collision and causing injury to
the vehicle occupants.
CAUTION
Make sure the engine is off, the transaxle is in P and theparking brake is appliedwhenever loading or unload- ing cargo. Vehicle may move ifshift lever is inadvertentlymoved to another position.
Be careful when loading cargo through the rear passengerseats to prevent damage tothe vehicle interior.
When cargo is loaded through the rear passenger seats,ensure the cargo is properly secured to prevent it frommoving while driving.Unsecured cargo in the pas- senger compartment cancause damage to the vehicleor injury to it’s occupants.

Outside the vehicle
To open the trunk, insert the keyinto the lock and turn it clockwise (1 ).
To close the trunk, use both hands to push the trunk lid down. Check
to see if the trunk is completelyshut.
Trunk can be opened with transmit- ter (if equipped).Trunk room lamp
Trunk room lamp turns on when the
trunk is opened. It remains on until
the trunk is securely closed.
✽✽ NOTICE
Make sure to close the trunk secure-
ly. If it remains open while engine isnot running, it may cause battery
discharge because trunk room lamp
remains on.
Inside the vehicle
To open the trunk from inside the
vehicle push trunk lid release switch.

- Exhaust fumes
If you drive with the trunk lid
open, you will draw dangerous
exhaust fumes into your vehicle
causing serious injury or death
to vehicle occupants. Open
trunk lids can also dangerously
obscure rear view vision.
If you must drive with the trunk
lid open, keep the air vents open
so that additional outside air
comes into the vehicle.

Opening the hood:
1. Pull the release lever on the lowerleft side of the instrument panel to
unlatch the hood. The hood
should pop open slightly. 2. Go to the front of the vehicle, raise
the hood slightly, push the second-
ary latch ( 1) inside of the hood
center and lift ( 2) the hood. 3. Lift the hood and hold it open with
the support rod by inserting thefree end of the rod into the slot ( 1).

CAUTION
Grasp the support rod in the
area wrapped in rubber. The rub-ber will help prevent you from being burned by hot metal whenthe engine is hot.
