2. Remove and replace the batteries. Avoid touching the
new batteries with your fingers. Skin oils may cause
battery deterioration. If you touch a battery, clean it with
rubbing alcohol.
3. Reposition the access door panel over the battery
opening and snap into place.

REMOTE STARTING SYSTEM Ð IF EQUIPPED
Your vehicle may be equipped with a remote starting
system, which will allow the vehicle to be started up to
300 feet (91 meters) away from the vehicle using the
remote keyless entry key fob which is part of your
ignition key.
In order to remote start your vehicle, the hood, liftgate,
and all of the doors must be closed.

To remote start your vehicle, press the ªRemote Startº
button on the key fob twice within three seconds. To
indicate that the vehicle is about to start, the parking
lights will flash and the horn will sound briefly (if
programmed). To turn the horn on or off, refer to
ªElectronic Vehicle Information Center/Customer Pro-
grammable Features/Sound Horn With Lock?º in Section
4 of this manual.Once the vehicle has started, the engine will run for 15
minutes. To cancel remote start, press the ªRemote Startº
button once.
The parking lamps will remain illuminated to indicate
that the vehicle has remote started and the engine is
running. The lamps will turn off when the ignition is
turned to ON or the remote start is cancelled.
To enter the vehicle while the engine is running during a
remote start, you must first unlock the vehicle using the
ªUnlockº button on the key fob. After the vehicle is
unlocked, you have 15 minutes to enter the vehicle, insert
the key into the ignition, and turn it to the ON position.
A ªInsert Key/Turn To Onº message will display in the
Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) until the
ignition switch has been turned to the ON position.
Otherwise, the engine will cancel remote start and auto-
matically turn off.

Normal Starting
The gear selector must be in the ªNº (Neutral) or ªPº
(Park) position before you can start the engine. Apply the
brakes before shifting into any driving gear.
NOTE:Normal starting of either a cold or a warm
engine is obtained without pumping or depressing the
accelerator pedal.
Do notpress the accelerator. Use the Fob with Integrated
Key to briefly turn the ignition switch to the START
position and release it as soon as the starter engages. The
starter motor will continue to run, and it will disengage
automatically when the engine is running. If the engine
fails to start, the starter will disengage automatically in 10
seconds. If this occurs, turn the ignition switch to the
LOCK position, wait 10 to 15 seconds, then repeat the
normal starting procedure.
Extremely Cold Weather (below220ÉF or229ÉC)
To insure reliable starting at these temperatures, use of an
externally powered electric engine block heater (available
from your dealer) is recommended.
