If the electric drive of the sliding door is
at risk of overheating, e.g. as a result of
frequent opening and closing within a
short amount of time, the sliding door
opens completely and is locked (func-
tion override). After approx. 30 seconds,
the sliding door is again operational.
Opening / closing using the switchObserve the notes on anti-trap protec-
tion (

2To open the sliding door
iFollowing a battery disconnection or
malfunction, it is necessary to fully
close the sliding door once by press-
ing and holding the switch on the
center console or in the doorway
(\2
page 93) and then to fully open
and close the door once by pressing
one of the switches briefly. This re-

ing door.
iIn the event of a malfunction or if the
battery is disconnected, you can dis-
connect the sliding door from the
electric drive via the unlocking me-
chanism and then open/close the sli-
ding door manually (

Lighting

Load compartment motion detector*On panel vans equipped with a motion
detector in the load compartment, the
rear interior lighting may also switch on
if motion is detected.
The rear interior lighting can be switched
on by the motion detector with a delay of
no more than 4 seconds if:
\4
the switch on the rear interior lamp
(\2
page 139) is set to “automatic
control”
\4
the vehicle is stationary, the hand-
brake is applied and the service
brake is not applied
or
\4
the selector lever is in position
P and
the service brake is not applied
\4
the vehicle has not been locked from
the outside using the key
Warning
G
Motion detectors work with invisible in-
frared beams emitted by LEDs (Light
Emitting Diodes).
Do not view invisible infrared radiation, la-
ser class 1M, directly using optical instru-
ments.
Your eyes could otherwise be injured.
iIf the motion detector detects move-
ment in the load compartment when
the vehicle is stationary, the rear in-
terior lighting switches on for ap-
proximately 2 minutes. If new
movements are detected, the dura-
tion resumes from the beginning and
the rear interior lighting remains
switched on.
iThe motion detector switches off auto-
matically if no change is detected in the
vehicle for several hours, e.g. door
opened, ignition key turned, etc. This prevents the battery from dis-
charging.

Warning
G
Always switch off the engine and apply
the handbrake before leaving the vehicle.
The vehicle could roll away if it is not
secured.
On uphill or downhill gradients steeper
than 15%:
\4apply the handbrake
\4secure an unloaded vehicle by chock-
ing the front axle (\2page 521)
\4secure a loaded vehicle by, for exam-
ple, chocking the rear axle
(\2page 521)
!
CAUTION
Whenever you park the vehicle, al-
ways remove the key to prevent the
battery from excessively discharg-
ing.
For vehicles which are out of use for
extended periods and have a battery
isolating switch*, switch off the elec-
trical system (
\2
page 338).
Warning
G
Make sure that the exhaust system does
not come into contact with highly flamma-
ble materials, e.g. dry grass or gasoline.
The flammable material could otherwise
ignite and set vehicle components on fire.

Sliding sunroof*Warning
G
Make sure that nobody can become
trapped as you close the sliding sunroof. The glass may shatter in the event of an
accident. If you or other occupants are not wearing
your seat belt, there is a risk of being
thrown out of the opening in the event of
the vehicle overturning. Therefore, always
wear a seat belt to reduce the risk of inju-
ries.
Continued
Warning (Continued)
G
In accidents in which the vehicle over-
turns, there is an increased risk of injury
even for occupants who have fastened
their seat belts correctly, as their head or
limbs could be thrust through the open-
ing.Remove the key from the ignition lock
even if you are only leaving the vehicle for
a short time.

rate exterior antenna of a type tested
and approved by the manufacturer.

Warning
G
You must observe the legal requirements
for the country in which you are driving
when operating a cell phone in the vehi-
cle.If it is permitted to operate a cell phone
while the vehicle is in motion, you must
only operate it when road and traffic con-
ditions permit. You may otherwise be dis-
tracted from the traffic conditions, cause
an accident and injure yourself and oth-
ers.

Warning (Continued)
G
Cell phones without exterior antennas
may interfere with the vehicle electronics
and thereby jeopardize the operational
safety of the vehicle. You must therefore
only use these devices when they are con-
nected to a separate exterior antenna.
