 Check the distance. You may be too far
from your vehicle. You may need to
stand closer during rainy or snowy
weather.
 Check the location. Other vehicles or
objects may be blocking the signal. Take
a few steps to the left or right, hold the
transmitter higher, and try again.
 Check to determine if battery replace-
ment is necessary. See “Battery
Replacement” under Remote Keyless
Entry System Operation in this section.
 If you are still having trouble, see your
SUZUKI dealer or a qualified technician
for service.
Remote Keyless Entry System
OperationThe following functions are available if your
vehicle has the remote keyless entry sys-
tem:
(LOCK):
Press this button to lock all of the doors. If
all of the doors and the trunk are closed,
the hazard lamps will flash once and the
horn will chirp to indicate that locking has
occurred. The theft-deterrent system will
activate and the security indicator located
on the driver’s door lock will flash.
(UNLOCK):
Press this button to unlock all of the doors.
If all of the doors and the trunk are closed,
the hazard lamps will flash twice to indicate
that unlocking has occurred. The theft-
deterrent system will deactivate and thesecurity indicator located on the driver’s
door lock will turn off.
If a door is not opened or if the engine is
not started within 30 seconds after press-
ing Unlock on the remote keyless entry
transmitter, all of the doors will automati-
cally relock and the theft-deterrent system
will reactivate.
(TRUNK): Sedan model
Press this button for about 1 second to
open the trunk.
(PANIC): Wagon model
Press this button to turn on the panic alarm
feature. The hazard lamps will flash and
the panic alarm will stay on for about 28
seconds unless you press the Panic button
again.
The LED (A) on the transmitter will flash
when the transmitter button is pressed.
The Lock, Unlock and Trunk buttons will
not operate and the theft-deterrent system
will not activate while the key is in the igni-
tion.
Matching Transmitter(s) to Your Vehicle
Each remote keyless entry transmitter is
coded to prevent another transmitter from
unlocking your vehicle. If a transmitter is
lost or stolen, a replacement can be pur-
chased through your SUZUKI dealer.
Remember to bring any remaining trans-
mitters with you when you go to your

Using the Rear Door Security Lock
To activate the rear door security lock:
1) Move the lock upward to the lock posi-
tion.
2) Close the door.
3) Do the same thing to the other rear
door lock.
The rear doors on your vehicle cannot be
opened from the inside when this feature is
in use.Opening a Rear Door When the Security
Lock is On
1) Unlock the door from the inside.
2) Then open the door from the outside.
If you don’t cancel the security lock feature,
adults or older children who ride in the rear
won’t be able to open the rear door from
the inside. You should let adults and older
children know how to cancel the locks.
Canceling the Rear Door Security Lock
1) Unlock the door from the inside and
open the door from the outside.
2) Move the lock downward to the unlock
position.
3) Do the same for the other rear door.
The rear door lock will now work normally.
Lockout ProtectionIf your vehicle is equipped with remote key-
less entry, you have lockout protection.
This feature stops the driver’s door from
locking when the power door lock switch is
pressed with the driver’s door open.
Leaving Your VehicleIf you are leaving the vehicle, take your
keys. All of the doors, except for the
driver’s door, can be locked from the out-
side by pushing down the door lock and
then closing the door. The driver’s door
can be locked from the outside only with
the key or by using the optional keyless
entry transmitter.Trunk (Sedan)To open the trunk from the outside, insert
the key and turn it clockwise in the trunk
lock cylinder or use the remote keyless
entry transmitter if your vehicle has one. When closing the trunk, close from the
center to ensure it fully latches. Although
you may use one hand to unlock the trunk,
it is recommend that two hands on the
upper surface be used to close the trunk.
CAUTION
Do not pull the inside door handle
when the rear door security locks are
engaged. The inside door handle
could be damaged.

Remote Trunk Release
Press the remote trunk release button,
located on the side of the driver’s door trim,
to release the trunk lid.Emergency Trunk Release Handle
There is a glow-in-the-dark emergency
trunk release handle located inside the
trunk on the underside of the trunk lid. This
handle will glow following exposure to light.
The trunk can be opened from the inside
by pulling the release handle down.
WARNING
It can be dangerous to drive with the
trunk lid open because carbon mon-
oxide (CO) gas can come into your
vehicle. You can’t see or smell CO. It
can cause unconsciousness and
even death. If you must drive with the
trunk lid open or if electrical wiring or
other cable connections must pass
through the seal between the body
and the trunk lid:
 Make sure all other windows are
shut.
 Turn the fan on your heating or
cooling system to its highest speed
and select the control setting that
will force outside air into your vehi-
cle. See “Climate Control System”
in the Index.
 If you have air outlets on or under
the instrument panel, open them all
the way.

WARNING
Never operate the remote trunk
release button while your vehicle is
moving. An open trunk lid obscures
your rear view. That can result in a
collision causing damage to your
vehicle or other property, personal
injury, or even death.

CAUTION
The emergency trunk release handle
is not designed to be used to tie
down the trunk lid or as an anchor
point when securing items in the
trunk. Improper use of the emergency
trunk release handle could damage it.

Theft-Deterrent SystemsVehicle theft is big business, especially in
some cities. Although your vehicle has a
number of theft-deterrent features, we
know that nothing we put on it can make it
impossible to steal.Theft-Deterrent SystemYour vehicle may have a theft-deterrent
system.
Arming the System
To arm the system, do the following:
1) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK
and remove the key from the ignition. If
the key is inserted in the ignition switch,
the transmitter will not operate the theft-
deterrent system.
2) Close the doors, the windows, the
hood, and the trunk. Make sure the win-
dows are closed, as the system can be
activated even if the windows are open.
3) Lock the doors using the remote key-
less entry transmitter. The transmitter
must be used to activate the theft-deter-
rent system.
– The LED on the transmitter will flash
once.
– All of the doors will lock.
– The hazard warning lamps will flash
once and the horn will chirp.
– The theft-deterrent mode will activate.– The security light (A) will flash once
every 0.8 seconds to indicate that the
theft-deterrent system is armed. The
security light is located on the driver’s
door lock.
To avoid activating the alarm by accident,
do the following:
 Lock the vehicle with the key or the man-
ual door lock after the doors are closed if
you don’t want to arm the theft-deterrent
system.
 Unlock the driver’s or passenger’s front
door with the key or use the remote key-
less entry transmitter. Pressing the
UNLOCK button on the remote keyless
entry transmitter disables the theft-deter-
rent system. Unlocking a door any other
way will activate the alarm when a door
or the trunk is opened.The theft-deterrent system will not arm
when you lock the doors using the key or
the manual door lock. It arms only when
you use the remote keyless entry transmit-
ter.
Disarming the System
To disarm the system, do the following:
 Unlock the driver’s or passenger’s front
door using the key, or
 Press the Unlock button on the transmit-
ter.
– The LED on the transmitter will flash
once.
– All of the doors will unlock.
– The hazard warning lamps will flash
twice.
– The theft-deterrent mode will deacti-
vate.
How the System Alarm is Activated
If a door or the trunk is opened without the
key or the remote keyless entry transmitter,
the horn will sound and the lamps will flash
for up to 30 seconds.
The theft-deterrent system won’t arm if you
lock the doors with the key or use the man-
ual door lock. It activates only if you use
the remote keyless entry transmitter.
If the door is not opened or if the engine is
not started within 30 seconds after disarm-
ing the system with the transmitter, all of
the doors will automatically lock and the
theft-deterrent mode will reactivate.

Door Ajar LightThis light will stay on until all doors are
closed and completely latched.
If the key is in the ignition while the driver’s
door is open, you will also hear a warning
chime.
Make sure that all doors are completely
closed and this light is out before driving.Trunk Ajar LightThis light will come on when the trunk is
not completely closed.
Make sure that the trunk is completely
closed and this light is out before driving.
Daytime Running Lamps Indicator
LightThis light will come on when the Daytime
Running Lamps (DRL) are on.
See “Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)”
under “Exterior Lamps” in this section for
further information on the DRL system.Passenger Air Bag Off IndicatorThe passenger air bag off indicator
appears in the clock display located in the
center of the instrument panel.
When the ignition key is turned to ON or
START, the passenger air bag off indicator
will light for several seconds as a system
check. Then, after several more seconds, if
the words “PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF”
remain lit, it means that the passenger
sensing system has turned off the rightfront passenger’s frontal air bag and side
air bag. See “Passenger Sensing System”
in Section 1 for more on this, including
important safety information.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Warning LightThe light comes on when the tire pressure
monitoring system detects that one or
more of your tires is significantly under-
inflated. This light will also come on for a
few seconds and then go off when you turn
the ignition to ON. This indicates that the

PASSENGER
AIR BAG OFF
WARNING
If the air bag readiness light in the
instrument panel cluster ever comes
on and stays on, it means that some-
thing may be wrong with the air bag
system. If this ever happens, have the
vehicle serviced promptly, because
an adult-size person sitting in the
right front passenger’s seat may not
have the protection of the frontal air
bag and side air bag. See “Air Bag
Readiness Light” in this section.

 As you go over the top of a hill, be alert.
There could be something in your lane,
like a stalled car or an accident.
 You may see highway signs on moun-
tains that warn of special problems.
Examples are long grades, passing or
no-passing zones, a falling rocks area or
winding roads. Be alert to these and take
appropriate action.Winter DrivingHere are some tips for winter driving:
 Have your vehicle in good shape for win-
ter.
 You may want to put winter emergency
supplies in your trunk.Include an ice scraper, a small brush or
broom, a supply of windshield washer fluid,
a rag, some winter outer clothing, a small
shovel, a flashlight, a red cloth and a cou-
ple of reflective warning triangles. And, if
you will be driving under severe conditions,
include a small bag of sand, a piece of old
carpet or a couple of burlap bags to help
provide traction. Be sure you properly
secure these items in your vehicle.
Driving on Snow or Ice
Most of the time, those places where your
tires meet the road probably have good
traction.
However, if there is snow or ice between
your tires and the road, you can have a
very slippery situation. You’ll have a lot
less traction or “grip” and will need to be
very careful.Very cold snow or ice can be slick and hard
to drive on. But wet ice can be even more
trouble because it may offer the least trac-
tion of all. You can get wet ice when it’s
about freezing (32°F; 0°C) and freezing
rain begins to fall. Try to avoid driving on
wet ice until salt and sand crews can get
there.
Whatever the condition – smooth ice,
packed, blowing or loose snow – drive with
caution.
Accelerate gently. Try not to break the frag-
ile traction. If you accelerate too fast, the
drive wheels will spin and polish the sur-
face under the tires even more.
Unless you have an anti-lock braking sys-
tem, you’ll want to brake very gently, too. (If
you do have anti-lock, see “Braking” in this
section. This system improves your vehi-
