FunctionoftheRolloverProtection
System
TheRolloverProtectionSystemontheCabrioletconsistsoftwosupplementalsafetybarsthattogetherwiththefrontwindshieldframehelptocreateoccupantsurvivalspaceincaseofrollover.Becauseoftheextremeandunpredictableforceswhichcanbeencounteredinarollover,itisnotpossibletoguaranteethatoccupantswillbeprotectedfromallcontactwithexteriorobjectsortheground.However,theRolloverProtectionSystemisdesignedtomaintaintheoccupantsurvivalspace.
Theprotectivedevicesarelocatedbehindeachrearseatandrapidlydeploywithinafractionofasecond.TheRolloverProtectionSystemisactivatedautomaticallyintheeventofanaccidentorextremedrivingsituation.Ifnecessary,theseat-belttensionerswillbeactivated.

Thesensorsmustalwaysbekeptfreeofdust,iceandsnowinordertoensurethattheyarefullyfunctional.

Signaltones/function
Whenreversegearisselected,theparkingassistantconfirmsthatitisswitchedonbyissuingashortsignaltone.
Adetectedobstacleissignalledbyanintermit-tenttone.Theintervalsdecreaseastheobstacleisapproached.
Acontinuoustonesoundswhenthedistancebecomeslessthanonefoot.Thiscontinuoustonecanstopiftheobstacleisapproachedcloserthanonefoot.
Theradiovolumeshouldnotbesoloudastodrownoutthesignaltones.
Limitsofultrasonicmeasurement
Theparkingassistantsystemcannotdetect:
–sound-absorbingobstacles(e.g.winteroperation,powdersnow),
–sound-reflectingobstacles(e.g.glasssurfaces,flatpaintedsurfaces)
–andverythinobstacles.

–Afterreversegearhasbeenselected,theshortsignaltoneisfollowedbyacontinuoustonewithamuchlowerpitch:Thisindicatesageneralsystemfault.PleasehavethefaultremediedatanauthorizedPorschedealer.

Four-WheelDrive
Enginepower
Withthefour-wheeldrive,theenginepowerisvariablydistributedtothefrontandrearwheels.Powerdistributionandwheelspeedcompensationbetweenthefrontandrearaxlesisrealisedwithaviscousmultiple-discclutch.
Distributionoftheenginepowerisdependentuponthewheelspeeddifferencebetweenthetwoaxles.Theviscousmultiple-discclutchalwaysdeliverssufficientdrivepowertothefrontwheels(approx.5%to40%)toensureoptimumtractionevenonapoorroadsurface.
IncombinationwiththePorscheStabilityManagement(PSM),four-wheeldriveimproveshandlingandincreasesdrivingstability.
