The roof-mounted side impact airbag for the front
passenger and the passenger directly behind
the front passenger is in the ceiling above the side
windows.
{CAUTION:
If something is between an occupant and
an airbag, the airbag might not in ate
properly or it might force the object into
that person causing severe injury or even
death. The path of an in ating airbag must
be kept clear. Do not put anything
between an occupant and an airbag, and
do not attach or put anything on the
steering wheel hub or on or near any
other airbag covering. Never secure
anything to the roof of your vehicle by
routing the rope or tie-down through any
door or window opening. If you do, the
path of an in ating airbag will be blocked.
Do not let seat covers block the in ation
path of a side impact airbag. The path of
an in ating airbag must be kept clear.

What Will You See After an Airbag
In ates?
After frontal airbags and seat-mounted side impact
airbags in ate, they quickly de ate, so quickly
that some people may not even realize an airbag
in ated. Roof-mounted side impact airbags
may still be at least partially in ated minutes after
the vehicle comes to rest. Some components
of the airbag module — the steering wheel hub for
the driver’s airbag, the instrument panel for the
right front passenger’s bag, the side of the
seatback closest to the door for the seat-mounted
side impact airbags, and the area along the
ceiling of your vehicle near the side windows for
roof-mounted side impact airbags — may be
hot for a short time. The parts of the airbag that
come into contact with you may be warm, but not
too hot to touch. There may be some smoke
and dust coming from the vents in the de ated
airbags. Airbag in ation does not prevent the driver
from seeing out of the windshield or being able
to steer the vehicle, nor does it prevent people
from leaving the vehicle.
{CAUTION:
When an airbag in ates, there may be
dust in the air. This dust could cause
breathing problems for people with a
history of asthma or other breathing
trouble. To avoid this, everyone in the
vehicle should get out as soon as it is
safe to do so. If you have breathing
problems but cannot get out of the vehicle
after an airbag in ates, then get fresh air
by opening a window or a door. If you
experience breathing problems following
an airbag deployment, you should seek
medical attention.
Your vehicle has a feature that may automatically
unlock the doors, turn the interior lamps on,
and turn the hazard warning ashers on when the
airbags in ate. You can lock the doors, turn the
interior lamps off, and turn the hazard warning
ashers off by using the controls for those
features.

range. This is normal for any RKE system. If
the transmitter does not work or if you have to
stand closer to your vehicle for the transmitter to
work, try this:
Check the distance. You may be too far from
your vehicle. You may need to stand closer
during rainy or snowy weather.
Check the location. Other vehicles or objects
may be blocking the signal. Take a few steps
to the left or right, hold the transmitter
higher, and try again.
Check to determine if battery replacement is
necessary. See “Battery Replacement”

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System Operation
With this feature, you can lock and unlock the
doors and liftgate, open and close the liftgate, and
turn on your vehicle’s interior lamps from up to
65 feet (20 m) away using the Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) transmitter supplied with your vehicle.
You will have one of the RKE transmitters
below.
Q(Lock):Press this symbol on the RKE
transmitter to lock the doors. This also arms the
theft-deterrent system. SeeTheft-Deterrent
System on page 112for additional information.
You can program your vehicle so that the exterior
lamps will ash and/or the horn will sound
when you lock the doors with the RKE transmitter.
SeeDIC Vehicle Customization on page 231for
more information on programming this feature.
"(Unlock):Press this symbol on the RKE
transmitter to unlock the driver’s door. This also
disarms the theft-deterrent system. Press the
button again, within ve seconds, to unlock the rest
of the doors.
You can program your vehicle so that the exterior
lamps will ash when you unlock the doors
with the RKE transmitter. SeeDIC Vehicle
Customization on page 231for more information
on programming this feature.
If your vehicle is programmed for remote
con rmation, the doors must be closed for this
feature to work. If a door is open, remote
con rmation will be canceled.

L(Panic Alarm):Press and release this button
to locate your vehicle. The turn signal lamps
will ash and the horn will sound three times.
Press and hold this button for more than
two seconds to activate the panic alarm. The
turn signal lamps will ash and the horn will sound
repeatedly for 30 seconds. The alarm will turn
off when the ignition is turned to ON or the alarm
button is pressed again. The ignition must be
in OFF for the panic alarm to work.
&(Power Liftgate):Press and hold this button
on the RKE transmitter to open and close the
liftgate. The taillamps will ash and a chime will
sound to indicate when the liftgate is opening and
closing.
Matching Transmitter(s) to Your
Vehicle
Each RKE transmitter is coded to prevent another
transmitter from unlocking your vehicle. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be
purchased through your dealer. Remember to
bring any additional transmitters with you so that
all of them can be re-coded to match the new
transmitter. Once your dealer has coded the new
transmitter, the lost transmitter will not unlock
your vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum
of eight transmitters matched to it.
Battery Replacement
Under normal use, the battery in your RKE
transmitter should last about four years.
The battery is weak if the transmitter will not work
at the normal range in any location. If you have
to get close to your vehicle before the transmitter
works, it is probably time to change the battery.
Notice:When replacing the battery, use
care not to touch any of the circuitry. Static
from your body transferred to these surfaces
may damage the transmitter.

Door Locks
{CAUTION:
Unlocked doors can be dangerous.
Passengers, especially children, can
easily open the doors and fall out of a
moving vehicle. When a door is
locked, the handle will not open it.
You increase the chance of being
thrown out of the vehicle in a crash if
the doors are not locked. So, wear
safety belts properly and lock the
doors whenever you drive.

Young children who get into unlocked
vehicles may be unable to get out. A
child can be overcome by extreme
heat and can suffer permanent injuries
or even death from heat stroke.
Always lock your vehicle whenever
you leave it.
Outsiders can easily enter through an
unlocked door when you slow down
or stop your vehicle. Locking your
doors can help prevent this from
happening.
