It is not necessary to remove bolts on torque member and brake hose except for disassembly or
replacement of caliper assembly. In this case, suspend cylinder body with wire so as not to stretch
brake hose.

Do not damage piston boot.

If any shim is subject to serious corrosion, replace it with a new one.

Always replace shims and shim covers as a set when replacing brake pads.

Keep rotor clean, from brake fluid.

Burnish brake contact surface after refinishing or replacing rotors, after replacing pads, or it a soft
pedal occurs at very low mileage. Refer to BR-24, "
Brake Burnishing Procedure" .
Removal and Installation of Brake PadNFS000MB
REMOVAL
1. Remove tires from vehicle with power tool.
2. Remove lower sliding pin bolt.
3. Hang cylinder body with a wire, and remove pads, pad retainers, shims from torque member.
CAUTION:
When removing pad retainer from torque member, lift pad
retainer in the direction shown by arrow (shown in the fig-
ure) so as not to deform it.
INSTALLATION
1. Apply PBC (Poly Butyl Cuprysil) or equivalent to the both sides
of inner shim and outer shim, install inner shim to inner pad, and
outer shim and outer shim cover to outer pad.
2. Apply PBC (Poly Butyl Cuprysil) or equivalent to pad contact surface on pad retainer, and install pad retainers and pads to
torque member.
CAUTION:
Inner pad and outer pad have pad-return mechanism on
upper side of pad retainer. When installing pad to torque
member, be sure to install pad return lever to pad wear sen-
sor securely.
3. Install cylinder body to torque member. CAUTION:
When replacing pads with new ones, press in piston until pads can be installed. In this case, care-
fully monitor brake fluid level in reservoir tank because brake fluid will return to master cylinder
reservoir tank.
4. Install lower sliding pin bolt, and tighten it to the specified torque. Refer to BR-19, "
Components" .
5. Secure disc rotor with wheel nuts. Depress brake pedal a few times until it gets a responsive touch.
6. Check brake for drag.
7. Install tires to vehicle.

4. Remove union bolts and torque member bolts, and remove brake caliper assembly from the vehicle.
5. Remove disc rotor. CAUTION:
Put matching marks on both disc rotor and wheel hub when
removing disc rotor.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:

Refill with new brake fluid “DOT3”.

Do not reuse drained brake fluid.
1. Install disc rotor.
CAUTION:
Align the matching marks of disc rotor and wheel hub, which were marked at the time of removal
when reusing disc rotor.
2. Install caliper assembly to vehicle, and tighten mounting bolts to the specified torque. Refer to BR-19,
"Components" .
CAUTION:
Before installing torque member to vehicle, wipe oil and grease on washer seats on steering
knuckle and mounting surface of torque member.
3. Install a projection of brake hose metal fitting by aligning with protrusions on cylinder body, and tighten union bolts to the specified torque. Refer to BR-19, "
Components" .
CAUTION:

Do not reuse copper washer for union bolts.

Assemble brake hose securely on caliper assembly.
4. After installing caliper assembly, refill with new brake fluid and bleed air. Refer to BR-10, "
Bleeding Brake
System" .
5. Install tires to vehicle.

NOTE:
Do not remove torque member, brake pads, shims, shim cover and pad retainer, when disassembling or
assembling cylinder body.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove caliper assembly from vehicle. Refer to BR-20,
"Removal and Installation of Brake Caliper Assembly" .
2. Remove sliding pin bolts from cylinder body, and remove pad, shim, shim cover and pad retainer from torque member.
CAUTION:
When removing pad retainer from torque member, lift the
pad retainer in the direction shown by arrow (shown in the
figure) so as not to deform it.

WARNING:
Clean dust on caliper and brake pad with a vacuum dust collector to minimize the hazard of airborne
particles or other materials.
CAUTION:

While removing cylinder body, never depress brake pedal because piston will pop out.

REMOVAL
1. Remove tires from vehicle with power tool.
2. Remove sliding pin bolt (one on top).
3. Suspend cylinder body with a wire, and remove pads, pad retainers, shim from torque member.
INSTALLATION
1. Apply PBC (Poly Butyl Cuprysil) grease or silicon-based grease to the backside of pad and to both sides of shim, and install inner shim and shim cover to inner pad, and install the outer shim and outer shim cover
to outer pad.
2. Install pad retainer and mount pad assemblies to torque member.
3. Push piston in so that pad is firmly installed and mount cylinder body to torque member. CAUTION:
When replacing pads with new ones, press in piston until pads can be installed. In this case, care-
fully monitor brake fluid level in reservoir tank because brake fluid will return to master cylinder
reservoir tank.
4. Install sliding pin bolt (one on top) and tighten to the specified torque. Refer to BR-25, "
Components" .
5. Check brake for drag.
6. Install tires to the vehicle.
*1: Some model have not outer shim.
*2: For models with one shim. (Refer to the latest parts information.)
Refer to GI-11, "
Components" and the followings for the symbols in the figure.
1: Apply rubber grease.
2: Apply PBC (Poly Butyl Cuprysil) grease or silicone-based grease.
3: Apply polyglycol ether based lubricant.
: Apply brake fluid.

Removal and Installation of Brake Caliper AssemblyNFS000MH
REMOVAL
1. Remove tires from vehicle with power tool.
2. Fasten disc rotor using wheel nut.
3. Drain brake fluid. Refer to BR-9, "
Drain and Refill" .
4. Remove union bolt and torque member bolts, and remove brake caliper assembly from the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Put matching marks on both disc rotor and wheel hub when
removing disc rotor.
5. Remove disc rotor.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:

Refill with new brake fluid “DOT 3”.

Do not reuse drained brake fluid.

assembly and mounting surface of caliper assembly.
3. Install brake hose to caliper assembly and tighten union bolt to the specified torque. Refer to BR-25,
"Components" .
CAUTION:

Do not reuse copper washer for union bolts.

Securely install brake hose to protrusion on caliper assembly.
4. After installing caliper assembly, refill with new brake fluid and bleed air. Refer to BR-10, "
Bleeding Brake
System" .
5. Install tires to the vehicle.

NOTE:
Do not remove torque member, brake pads, shims, shim covers and pad retainers, when disassembling or
assembling cylinder body.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove sliding pin bolts, and then remove brake pads, shims, shim covers, and pad retainer from torque
member and cylinder.
CAUTION:
Do not drop brake pads, shims, shim cover and pad retainer from torque member.
2. Remove sliding pin boot from torque member.

PRECAUTIONS

If there is a radio, antenna, or antenna lead-in wire (including wiring) near control module, VDC/TCS/ABS
function may have a malfunction or error.

If aftermarket parts (car stereo, CD player, etc.) have been installed, check for incidents such as harness
pinches, open circuits, and improper wiring.

If the following components are replaced with non-genuine components or converted, VDC OFF indicator
lamp and SLIP indicator lamp may turn on or the VDC system may not operate properly. Components
related to suspension (shock absorber, strut, spring, bushing, etc.), Tires, wheels (exclude specified size),
components related to brake (pad, rotor, caliper, etc.), components related to engine (muffler, ECM, etc.),
components related to body reinforcement (roll bar, tower bar, etc.).

Driving in the condition of breakage or excessive wear of suspension, tires or components related to the
brakes may cause VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indicator lamp turn on, and the VDC system may
not operate properly.

When the TCS or VDC is activated by sudden acceleration or sudden turn, some noise may occur. The
noise is a result of the normal operation of the TCS and VDC.

When driving on roads which have extreme slopes (such as mountainous roads) or high banks (such as
sharp carves on a freeway), the VDC may not operate normally, or VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP
indicator lamp may turn on. However, this is not a malfunction, if normal operation can be resumed after
restarting engine.

Sudden turns (such as spin turns, acceleration turns), drifting, etc. When VDC function is OFF (VDC OFF
SW ON) may cause the G sensor system indicate a malfunction. However, this is not a malfunction, if nor-
mal operation can be resumed after restarting engine.

Change 4 tires at a time. Be sure to use specified-size tires that have the same brand name and pattern.
Wheel sensor errors can be detected be self-diagnosis when tires have wide abrasion variations or the
size is different from the genuine tires.

Adjustment of Steering Angle Sensor Neutral PositionNFS000N1
In case of doing work that applies to the list below, make sure to adjust neutral position of steering angle sen-
sor before running vehicle.
CAUTION:
To adjust neutral position of steering angle sensor, make sure to use CONSULT-II.
(Adjustment can not be done without CONSULT-II.)
1. Stop vehicle with front wheels in straight-ahead position.
2. Perform “CONSULT-II Starting Procedure”. Refer to GI-38, "
CONSULT-II Start Procedure" .
3. Touch “ABS”, “WORK SUPPORT” and “ST ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT” on CONSULT-II screen in this order.
4. Touch “START”. CAUTION:
Do not touch steering wheel while adjusting steering angle
sensor.
5. After approximately 10 seconds, touch “END”. (After approxi- mately 60 seconds, it ends automatically.)
6. Turn ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON again. CAUTION:
Be sure to perform above operation.
7. Run vehicle with front wheels in straight-ahead position, then stop.
8. Select “DATA MONITOR”, “SELECTION FROM MENU”, and “STR ANGLE SIG” on CONSULT-II screen. Then make sure “STR ANGLE SIG” is within 0 ± 3.5 deg. If value is more than specification, repeat steps
3 to 7.
9. Erase memory of ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) and ECM.
10. Turn ignition switch OFF.

Calibration of Decel G Sensor (AWD Models)NFS000N2
NOTE:
After removing/installing or replacing yaw rate/side/decel G sensor, ABS actuator and electric unit (control
unit), suspension components, or after adjusting wheel alignment, make sure to calibration of decel G sensor
before running vehicle.
CAUTION:
To calibrate decel G sensor, make sure to use CONSULT-II. (Adjustment can not be done without CON-
SULT-II.)
1. Stop vehicle with front wheels in straight-ahead position. CAUTION:

The work should be done at a horizontal place when vehicle is in the unloaded vehicle condi-
tion.

Keep all tires inflated to correct pressures. Adjust the tire pressure to the specified pressure
value.
2. Perform “CONSULT-II Starting Procedure”. Refer to GI-38, "
CONSULT-II Start Procedure" .
3. Touch “ABS”, “WORK SUPPORT” and “DECEL G-SEN CALIBRATION” on CONSULT-II screen in this order.
4. Touch “START”. CAUTION:
Set vehicle as shown in the display.
5. After approximately 10 seconds, touch “END”. (After approxi- mately 60 seconds, it ends automatically.)
6. Turn ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON again.
CAUTION:
Be sure to perform above operation.
7. Run vehicle with front wheels in straight-ahead position, then stop.
8. Select “DATA MONITOR”, “SELECTION FROM MENU”, and “DECEL G-SEN” on CONSULT-II screen. Then make sure “DECEL G-SEN” is within 0 ± 0.08 G. If value is
more than specification, repeat steps 3 to 7.
9. Erase memory of ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) and ECM.
10. Turn ignition switch OFF.
