o Drive belts
Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil contamination and replace if neces-sary. Drive belts should be checked periodically for proper tension and ad- justed as necessary. F060C01A-AAT
o Fuel filter
A clogged filter can limit the speed at
which the vehicle may be driven, dam- age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amountof foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently. After installing a new filter, run the
engine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections. Fuel fil- ters should be installed by trained technicians.

o Fuel lines, fuel hoses and con- nections
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and
connections for leakage and damage. Have a trained technician replace anydamaged or leaking parts immediately. WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system withengine running or within 30 sec-onds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are subject tohigh pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury,if it contacts the body. People using pacemakers should ensure that they keep a distance of 30cm from theECU or wiring harness within the engine room while engine is run- ning, since the high currents in theCommon Rail system produce con- siderable magnetic fields.

o Engine oil and filter
The engine oil and filter should be
changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the car is being driven in severe conditions,more frequent oil and filter changes are required.

o Timing belt Inspect all parts related to the timing belt for damage and deformation. Replace any damaged parts immedi- ately. F060G01A-EAT
o Vapour hose and fuel filler cap The vapour hose and fuel filler cap should be inspected at those intervals specified in the maintenance sched-ule. Make sure that a new vapour hose or fuel filler cap is correctly replaced. F060F02A-AAT
o Crankcase ventilation hoses
Inspect the surface of hoses for evi-
dence of heat and/or mechanical dam-age. Hard and brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessiveswelling indicate deterioration. Particu- lar attention should be paid to examine those hose surfaces nearest to highheat sources, such as the exhaust manifold.
Inspect the hose routing to assure that
the hoses do not come in contact with any heat source, sharp edges or mov-ing component which might cause heat damage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clampsand couplings, to make sure they are secure, and that no leaks are present. Hoses should be replaced immedi-ately if there is any evidence of dete- rioration or damage. F060H01A-AAT
o Air cleaner filter
A Genuine Hyundai air cleaner filter is
recommended when the filter is re-placed.

o Spark plugs (For petrol engine)
Make sure to install new spark plugs

o Cooling system
Check the cooling system, such as radiator, coolant reservoir, hoses andconnections for leakage and damage. Replace any damaged parts.

SG020B1-E The following items should be checked on a daily basis or whenever the vehicle is refuelled, whichever occurssooner.
o Engine oil level.
o Coolant level.
o Power steering fluid level.
o Brake fluid level.
o Windscreen washer fluid level.
o Battery condition.
o Tyre condition and pressures.
o Operation and cleanliness of all lighting equipment.
o Windscreen wiper and washer op-
eration.
o Horn operation.
o Warning light operation.
o Adjustment and cleanliness of mir- rors.
o Seat and seat belt adjustment and operation.
o Fluid leakage. The vehicle must not be driven if the daily operating checks indicate that any item of equipment related to the safety or roadworthiness of the ve-hicle is not functioning correctly.ENGINE OIL

mount importance. An excessively high or low oil level may result inirreparable damage being sustained by the engine. The engine oil level must be checked on a daily basis,whenever the vehicle is refuelled or before starting a long trip, whichever occurs sooner.
In addition, it is imperative that only
an approved grade and specificationof oil is used to avoid the possibility ofserious engine damage and prema- ture wear. The use of "budget price" oil is a false economy that must beavoided if the maximum reliability and useful life is to be obtained from the vehicle.MAINTENANCE PRECAU- TIONS

The electric engine cooling fan au-
tomatically switches on and off ac- cording to engine temperature. Be careful to keep away from the fanduring this check as it may switch on at any time.
NOTE: Only lint free cloth should be used
for wiping the dipstick. The pres- ence of lint within the transmis- sion may cause problems with the normal function of the transmis-sion. CAUTION:
Correct operation of the braking
system is essential to the safe op- eration of the vehicle and there- fore, any maintenance operationsother than those listed below should be entrusted to a Hyundai authorised repairer.

Brake Fluid Recommendations
Only brake fluid conforming to DOT 3
or DOT 4 specifications or highermay be used in the braking system. Care should be taken to observe the instructions and precautions printedupon the container.

The fuel system should be bled to
remove air as described in the illus- tration if the fuel supply is exhausted during travel, when the fuel filter isreplaced, or if the vehicle is not used for a long time.
1. Pump the hand prime pump with your hand for one minute(about 20~30 times).
2. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and release it 2~3 times shortly until the engine starts. CAUTION:
Do not hold the ignition key in the"START" position for more than 15 seconds. Doing so may causethe engine and the injection pump to damage.

YG220A1-E POWER STEERING HOSES It is suggested that you check the power steering hose connections forfluid leakage at those intervals speci- fied in the vehicle maintenance sched- ule in Section 5. The power steeringhoses should be replaced if there are severe surface cracking, pulling, scuff- ing or worn spots. Deterioration of thehoses could cause premature failure. NOTE: The power steering pump may be noisy when the engine is first started in the extreme cold (-4°F/-20°C). Thisnoise is not abnormal and will stop as the engine warms up. If the power steering pump continues to be noisyafter the engine has warmed up, have it inspected by your Hyundai authorised repairer.

3. Check to be sure that the warning
lamp illuminates when the ignition key is turned to "ON", and that it goes off when the engine is started. If in doubt, consult your nearest Hyundai authorised repairer.
NOTE: It is recommended that water accu- mulated in the fuel filter should be removed by a Hyundai authorised repairer.
WARNING:
Be sure to carefully wipe away anywater drained out in this manner, because the fuel mixed in the water might be ignited and resultin a fire. Before attempting to replace a head-
light bulb, be sure the switch is turned to the "OFF" position.
The next paragraph shows how to
reach the headlight bulbs so they may be changed. Be sure to replacethe burned-out bulb with one of the same number and wattage rating.
Ensure that the replacement bulb has
the same cap configuration and watt-age as the original.
See page 6-35 for the wattage descrip-
tions.
CAUTION:
Keep the lamps out of contact with
petroleum products, such as oil, petrol, etc.

Removal Of Water From TheFuel Filter (For Diesel Engine)
If the fuel filter warning lamp illumi- nates during driving, it indicates that water has accumulated in the fuel filter. If this occurs, remove the wateras described below.
1. Loosen the drain plug at the bot- tom of the fuel filter.
2. Tighten the drain plug when water no longer comes out.
