o Keep your car in good condition. For
better fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, maintain your car in accordance with the mainte- nance schedule in Section 5. If youdrive your car in severe conditions, more frequent maintenance is re- quired (see Section 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum service, your car should be keptclean and free of corrosive materi-als. It is especially important that mud, dirt, ice, etc. not be allowed to accumulate on the underside of thecar. This extra weight can result in increased fuel consumption and also contribute to corrosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unneces- sary weight in your car. Weight is anenemy of good fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than necessary. If you are waiting (andnot in traffic), turn off your engine andrestart only when you're ready to go.
SC150A1-F You can save fuel and get more miles from your car if you follow these sug-gestions:
o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a
moderate rate. Don't make "jack- rabbit" starts or full-throttle shifts and maintain a steady cruising speed. Don't race between stoplights. Try toadjust your speed to that of the other traffic so you don't have to change speeds unnecessarily.Avoid heavy traffic whenever pos- sible. Always maintain a safe dis- tance from other vehicles so you canavoid unnecessary braking. This also reduces brake wear.
o Drive at a moderate speed. The faster you drive, the more fuel your caruses. Driving at a moderate speed, especially on the highway, is one ofthe most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.
DRIVING FOR ECONOMY
o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal.This can increase fuel consumption and also increase wear on these components. In addition, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedalmay cause the brakes to overheat, which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious con-
sequences.
o Take care of your tyres. Keep them
inflated to the recommended pres-sure. Incorrect infla-tion, either too much or too little, results in unneces- sary tyre wear. Check the tyre pres-sures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned
correctly. Improper alignment canresult from hitting curbs or driving too fast over irregular surfaces. Poor alignment causes faster tyre wearand may also result in other prob- lems as well as greater fuel con- sumption.

1. Before towing, check towbar ball andsafety cable connections as well as proper operation of the trailer running lights, brake lights, and turn signals.
2. Always drive your vehicle at a mod- erate speed (Less than 60 MPH)
3. Trailer towing requires more fuel
than normal conditions.
4. To maintain engine braking effi- ciency and electrical charging per- formance, do not use fifth gear(manual transaxle) or overdrive (au- tomatic transaxle).
5. Always secure items in the trailer to prevent load shift whilst driving.
6. Check the condition and air pres-
sure of all tyres on the trailer and your vehicle. Low tyre pressure can seriously affect the handling. Also check the spare tyre. 7. The vehicle/trailer combination is
more affected by crosswind andbuffeting. When being passed by a large ve- hicle, keep a constant speed andsteer straight ahead. If there is too much wind buffeting slow down to get out of the other vehicle's airturbulence.
8. When parking your vehicle and
trailer, especially on a hill, be sure tofollow all the normal precautions. Turn your front wheels into the curb, set the parking brake firmly, and putthe transaxle in 1st or Reverse (manual) or Park (automatic). In ad- dition, place wheel chocks at eachof the trailer's tyres.
9. If the trailer has electric brakes,
start your vehicle and trailer mov-ing, and then apply the trailer brake controller by hand to be sure the brakes are working. This lets youcheck your electrical connection at the same time. 10. During your trip, check occasionally
to be sure that the load is secure, and that the lights and any trailer brakes are still working.
11. Avoid jerky starts, sudden acceler-
ation or sudden stops.
12. Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane
changes.
13. Avoid holding the brake pedal down too long or too frequently. This could cause the brakes to overheat, re-sulting in reduced braking efficien- cy.
14. When going down a hill, shift into a
lower gear and use the engine brak-ing effect. When ascending a long grade, down-shift the transaxle to a lower gear and reduce speed to reduce chances of engine overloading and/or over-heating.

3 IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
4IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
SD040A2-E If the temperature gauge indicates over- heating:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Place the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic) or neutral (manual transaxle) and set the parking brake.If the air conditioning is on, turn it off.
3. If coolant is running out under the car
or steam is coming out from underthe bonnet stop the engine. Do not open the bonnet until the coolant has stopped running or the steaming hasstopped. If there is no visible loss of coolant and no steam, leave the engine running and check to be surethe engine cooling fan is operating. If the fan is not running, turn the engine off.
4. Check to see if the water pump drive belt is broken. If it is not broken,check to see that it is tight.If the drive belt seems to be satisfac- tory, check for coolant leaking from the radiator, hoses or under the car.(If the air conditioning had been in use, it is normal for cold water to be draining from it).
4. Connect the red jump cable to the
positive (+) terminal of the boosterbattery and the other end to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery.
5. Attach the black jump cable to the negative (-) terminal of the boosterbattery, and the other end to a groundpoint within the engine compartment of the vehicle with the flat battery. Do not connect to the negative batteryterminal of the flat battery since sparks may be generated with the subsequent risk of explosion.
6. Raise the booster vehicle engine speed to 2,000 r.p.m. and start theengine of the vehicle with the flatbattery.
7. Switch "ON" the main beam
headlamps before carefully remov-ing the jumper cables in the reverse order of attachment. Once the jumper cables have been removed, switch"OFF" the main beam headlamps. CAUTION:
If the jump cables are incorrectlyinstalled, damage to the vehicle elec- trical system may occur, in particu- lar the electronic components suchas the Fuel Injection system com- puter and the Automatic Transaxle computer. The battery must never bedisconnected whilst the engine is running.

o Engine Oil and Filter
The engine oil and filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the car is being driven in severe conditions,more frequent oil and filter changes are required. 6ZF060B1-A
o Drive Belts
Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil contamination and replace if neces- sary. Drive belts should be checkedperiodically for proper tension and ad- justed as necessary. 6ZF060C1-A
o Fuel Filter A clogged filter can limit the speed at which the vehicle may be driven, dam- age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amountof foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently.After installing a new filter, run theengine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections.
WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. Highpressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the enginestopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it contacts the body. People usingpacemakers should ensure that they keep a distance of 30cm from the ECU or wiring harness within theengine room whilst engine is run- ning, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce con-siderable magnetic fields.

Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and connections for leakage and damage. Replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately.

Visually inspect the exhaust pipes,
silencer and hangers for cracks, dete- rioration, or damage. Start the engine and listen carefully for any exhaust gas leakage. Tighten connections orreplace parts as necessary. 6ZF070M1-A
o Steering Gear Box, Linkage &
Boots/Lower arm Ball Joint
With the vehicle stopped and engine
off, check for excessive freeplay in the steering wheel.
Check the linkage for bends or dam-
age. Check the dust boots and balljoints for deterioration, cracks, or dam- age. Replace any damaged parts.

o Power Steering Pump, Belt
and Hoses
Check the power steering pump and
hoses for leakage and damage. Re- place any damaged or leaking parts immediately. Inspect the power steer-ing belt for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear, oil contamination and proper tension. Replace or adjust it ifnecessary. 6ZF070P1-A
o Driveshafts and Boots
Check the drive shafts, boots andclamps for cracks, deterioration, or damage. Replace any damaged parts and, if necessary, repack the grease. 6ZF070Q1-A
o Air conditioning Refrigerant
Check the air conditioning lines and connections for leakage and damage.Check air conditioning performance according to the relevant shop manual if necessary.

4. Remove the engine oil filler cap.
5. Slide underneath the car and loosen
the oil pan drain plug by turning it counterclockwise oil pan with a wrench of the proper size. Be surethat a drain pan is in position to catch the oil as it drains out, then remove the drain plug.
WARNING:
Be very careful when draining theengine oil as it may be hot enough to burn you!
6. When the oil has stopped draining, replace the drain plug using a new gasket and retighten by turning it clockwise. Oil pan drain plug tightening torque : 3.5 ~ 4.5 kgf.m
7. Pull out the oil filter upper cap with element from the oil filter housing.Using a clean cloth, remove any dirtor oil accumulated around the oilfilter housing. 8. After mounting a new centrepipe O-
ring, new oil filter element and newO-ring to upper cap, install the up- per cap to oil filter housing and retighten by turning it clockwise. Donot over-tighten. Tightening torque : 2.5 kgf.m
CAUTION:
Do not use old oil filter upper cap O- ring and centrepipe O-ring.

9. Refill the crankcase with the recom- mended engine oil. Refer to the specification in chapter 9 for engine oil capacity.
CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oilinto a funnel. Do not overfill to preverd engine to camage.
! 10. Start the engine and check to be
sure no oil is leaking from the drain plug or oil filter.
11. Shut off the engine and recheck
the oil level.
NOTE:
o It is recommended that the en- gine oil and filter should be changed by an Hyundai authorised repairer.
o Always dispose of used engine oil in an environmentally accept-able manner. It is suggested that it be placed in a sealed container and taken to a service station formaybe reclaimation. Do not pour the oil on the ground or put it into the household trash.
WARNING:
Used motor oil may cause irritation or cancer of the skin if left in contact with the skin for prolonged periodsof time. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water as soon as possible after handling used oil.

POWER STEERING HOSES
Power steering hoses should be
checked for damage, deterioration and leakage at each service. To check the power steering fluid level,
be sure the ignition is "OFF", thencheck to make certain that the power steering fluid level is between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings onthe fluid reservoir.
NOTE: Grinding noise from power steering
pump may be heard immediately after the engine is started in ex-tremely cold condition (below -4°F). If the noise stops dur- ing warm up, there is no abnormalfunction in the system. This is due to a power steering fluid character- istic in extremely cold conditions. FLUID RECOMMENDATION
Only automatic transmission fluid
meeting the specification of PSF-3 or Dexron 2 should be used in the power steering system.
