Visually check for proper installation,
chafing, cracks, deterioration and any leakage. Replace any deteriorated or damaged parts immediately.

Check brake fluid level in the brake
fluid reservoir. The level should be between "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir. Use onlyhydraulic brake fluid conforming SAE J1703.

Check for scoring, burning, leaking

o Parking Brake
Inspect the parking brake system such as parking brake lever, cables, and so on. For detailed service procedures,refer to the Shop Manual.

o Exhaust Pipe Connections,
Muffler and Suspension Bolts
Check the exhaust pipe, muffler, and
suspension connections for loosenessor damage.

o Manual Transmission Oil Check manual transmission oil ac- cording to the maintenance schedule. NOTE: If the oil level is low, check for possible leaks before adding oil. Do not overfill. G080M03P-GAT
o Automatic Transmission Fluid The fluid level should be in the "HOT" range of the dipstick, after engine and transmission are at normal operatingtemperature. Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid level with the en- gine running and the transmission inneutral, with the parking brake properly applied. Use MOBIL DEXRON-II or DIAMOND ATF SP-I when adding orchanging fluid.

With the vehicle stopped and engine off, check for excessive free-play in the steering wheel. Check the linkage for bends or damage. Check the dustboots and ball joints for deterioration, cracks, or damage. Replace any dam- aged parts. G080U01P-GAT

2EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
H010A01P-GAT (Gasoline) Your Hyundai is equipped with an emission control system. There are three emission control sys- tems which are as follows.
(1) Crankcase emission control sys- tem
(2) Evaporative emission control sys- tem
(3) Exhaust emission control systemIn order to assure the proper function of the emission control systems, it is recommended that you have your vehicle inspected and maintained byan authorized Hyundai dealer in ac- cordance with the maintenance sched- ule in this manual. H020A01P-GAT
1. Crankcase Emission Control
System
The positive crankcase ventilation
system is employed to prevent airpollution caused by blow-by gases being emitted from the crankcase.This system supplies fresh air to the crankcase through the air cleaner. Inside the crankcase, the fresh airmixes with blow-by gases, then passes through the PCV valve into the induction system.
H080A01P-GAT PCV Valve The crankcase ventilation system must be kept clean to maintain good engine performance. Periodic servicing is required to re- move combustion products from the PCV valve. H030A01P-GAT
2. Evaporative Emission Control
System (except canister)
The Evaporative Emission ControlSystem is designed to prevent fuel vapors from escaping into the atmo-sphere.If the fuel-vapor vent line is cloggedor damaged, the fuel-vapor mixturewill escape into the atmosphere and cause insufficient emission control. Disconnect the line at both ends, and blow it clean with compressed air. Remove the filler cap from the filler pipe, and check to see if there is evidence that the packing contact to the filler pipe is faulty. The overfilllimiter (2-way valve) installed on the vapor line between the canister inlet and fuel tank outlet must be checkedfor correct operation.

7CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL
If you notice anything that does not
operate correctly or appear to be func- tioning correctly, inspect it carefully and seek assistance from your Hyundai dealer if service is needed.
Adequate care of your vehicle at regu-
lar intervals serves to preserve thevalue and appearance as long aspossible.
Some maintenance items can be car-
ried out by the owner (Consumer Information), while other should be done only by an authorized dealer(Periodic Inspection and Mainte- nance). This section describes only those items which can be carried outby the owner. In the event a malfunc- tion or other problem is discovered, have it corrected by an authorizedHYUNDAI dealer. This section con- tains information on inspection main- tenance procedures that you can doyourself, if you so desire. Follow the instructions and cautions for each of the various procedures. When checking or servicing the insideof the engine compartment, be surethe engine is stopped and has had a chance to cool down. If it is necessary to do work in the engine compartmentwith the engine running, be especially careful that your clothing, hair, etc., becomes not caught by the fan, V-belts, or other moving parts.

Select engine oil of the proper SAE viscosity number according to the at-mospheric temperature.Recommended viscosity is given inthe following illustration. The engine oil quality should meet the following API classification: 2.6 N/A : CF-4 or ABOVE 2.5 4D56 : CF-4 or ABOVE 2.5 CRDi : CF-4 or ABOVE The engine oil quality should meet the following ACEA classification: 2.6 N/A : B2 or B3 2.5 4D56 : B2 or B3 2.5 CRDi : B4 or ABOVE NOTE: For diesel-powered vehicle SAE 0W-30 oil should be used only inareas where extremely cold tem- peratures of 10°C (50°F) or below are experienced. For diesel-poweredvehicle, if the atmospheric tempera- tures are 0°C (32°F) or below, SAE 30 oil must not be used.

Recommended Oil Gasoline Engine
G030B01JMEngine oil is essential to the perfor-
mance and service of the engine. It is suggested that you check the oil level at least once a week in normal use and more often if you are on a trip ordriving in severe conditions.
The engine oil quality should meet the
following classification.
API SJ, SL or ABOVE, ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE NOTE:
o For good fuel economy, SAE 5W- 20 (5W-30), ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is preferred regardless of regional option and engine variation.
o If SAE 5W-20, ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is not available, secondaryrecommended engine oil for cor- responding temperature range can be used.
This oil should be used only inareas where the atmospheric tem-peratures are 0°C(32°F) or above.

To Check the Oil Level
If the oil level is below the specified limit, remove the cap located on the cylinder head cover and add enoughoil to raise the level to within the specified range. Be sure to use the specified engine oil and do not mixvarious types of oil. Also, avoid mix- ing different makes of oil together if possible. After adding oil, close thecap securely.
It is important to check the oil level at
regular intervals or before starting a long trip.
This check must be made with the
engine warm but not running. Park the vehicle on a level surface, stopthe engine, and then wait a few mo- ments to allow the engine oil in circu- lation to return to the oil pan to ensureaccurate measurement. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth. Reinsert the dipstick and read the oillevel, which should always be within the range indicated in the figure. WARNING:
Be careful not to touch the hot exhaust manifold.
CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oilusing by a funnel. Do not overfillnot to damage engine. NOTE: Check the oil level on the dipstick once again after adding the oil.
