o The SRS can function only when
the ignition key is in the "ON" position. If the SRS SRI does not come on, or continuously remains on after flashing for about 6 sec-onds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, or after the engine is started, comeson while driving, the SRS is not working properly. If this occurs, have your vehicle immediately in-spected by your Hyundai dealer.
o Before you replace a fuse or dis- connect a battery terminal, turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" position or remove the ignitionkey. Never remove or replace the air bag related fuse(s) when the ignition key is in the "ON" posi-tion. Failure to heed this warning will cause the SRS SRI to illumi- nate. The purpose of thepre-tensioner is to make sure that the seat belts fit tightly against the occu- pant's body in certain frontal collisions.The pre-tensioner seat belts can be activated alone or, where the frontal collision is severe enough, togetherwith the airbags.

o When the SRS is activated, there may be a loud noise and fine dust will be released throughout the vehicle. These conditions are nor- mal and are not hazardous. How-ever, the fine dust generated dur- ing airbag deployment may cause skin irritation. Wash your handsand face thoroughly with lukewarm water and a mild soap after an accident in which the airbags weredeployed.

The pre-tensioner seat belt operates in a similar way as an Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) type of seat belt. When the vehicle stops suddenly, or if theoccupant tries to lean forward too quickly, the seat belt retractor will lock into position. In certain frontal colli-sions, the pre-tensioner will activate and pull the seat belt into tighter contact against the occupant's body. HXG229

NOTE:
o Both the driver's and front
passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be activated in certainfrontal collisions. The pre- tensioner seat belts can be acti- vated alone or, where the frontalcollision is severe enough, to- gether with the airbags. The pre-tensioners will not be ac-tivated if the seat belts are not being worn at the time of the col- lision.
o When the pre-tensioner seat belts are activated, a loud noise may beheard and fine dust, which may appear to be smoke, may be vis- ible in the passenger compart-ment. These are normal operating conditions and are not hazard- ous.
o Although it is harmless, the fine dust may cause skin irritation andshould not be breathed for pro- longed periods. Wash your hands and face thoroughly after an acci-dent in which the pre-tensioner seat belts were activated.
WARNING:
To obtain maximum benefit from a pre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly.
2. The seat belt must be adjusted to
the correct position.

Your Hyundai is equipped with a Dual- stage Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) System. The indications of the system's presence are the letters "SRS AIRBAG"embossed on the airbag pad cover in the steering wheel and the passenger's side front panel pad above the glovebox. The Hyundai SRS consists of airbags installed under the pad covers in the center of the steering wheel and thepassenger's side front panel above the glove box. The purpose of the SRS is to provide the vehicle's driver and/or thefront passenger with additional protec- B240A03A

!WARNING:
o As its name implies, the SRS is designed to work with, and be supplemental to, the driver's and the passenger's three point seatbelt systems and is not a substi- tute for them. Therefore, your seat belts must be worn at all timeswhile the vehicle is in motion. The airbags deploy only in certain fron- tal impact conditions severeenough to cause significant injury to the vehicle occupants.
NOTE:
o Be sure to read information about
the SRS on the labels provided on the backside of the sun visor andin the glove box.
o Dual-stage inflating airbags are
combined with pre-tensioner seatbelts to help provided enhanced occupant protection in frontal crashes. Front airbags are not in-tended to deploy in light colli- sions in which protection can be provided by the pre-tensioner seatbelt.

The Dual-stage SRS uses a collection of sensors to gather information about the driver's and front passenger's seatposition, the driver's and front passenger's seat belt usage and im- pact severity.The driver's and front passenger's seat position sensors determine if the seats are fore or aft of a reference position.Similarly, the seat belt usage sensors determine if the driver and front passenger's seat belts are fastened.These sensors provide the ability to control the SRS deployment's pressure based on how close the driver's seat isto the steering wheel, how close the passenger's seat is to the instrument panel and whether or not the seat beltsare fastened. The dual-stage airbags offer the ability to control the airbag inflation with two pressure levels. A lower pressure levelis provided for moderate-severity im- pacts. A higher-pressure level is pro- vided for more severe impacts.

If the liquid from the air fresh- ener does leak onto these areas,wash them with water immediately.

45SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG
B990B04Y-AAT (If Installed) Your Hyundai is equipped with a side impact airbag in each front seat. The purpose of the airbag is to provide thevehicle's driver and/or the front passen- ger with additional protection than that offered by the seat belt alone. The sideimpact airbags are designed to deploy only during certain side impact colli- sions, depending on the crash severity,angle, speed and point of impact. The side impact airbags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations.

o For best protection from the side impact airbag system and to avoid being injured by the deployingside impact airbag, both front seat occupants should sit in an up- right position with the seat beltproperly fastened. The driver's hands should be placed on the steering wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00o'clock positions. The passenger's arms and hands should be placed on their laps.
o Do not use any accessory seat covers.
o Use of seat covers could reduce or
prevent the effectiveness of the system.
o Do not install any accessories on
the side or near the side impactairbag.
o Do not use excessive force on the
side of the seat.
o Do not place any objects over the
airbag or between the airbag and yourself.
WARNING:
o The side impact airbag is supple- mental to the driver's and thepassenger's seat belt systems andis not a substitute for them. B260U01TB-GAT Immobilizer Warning Light (If Installed)
This indicator light comes on for some seconds after the ignition key is turnedto the "ON" position. At this time, you can start the engine. The light goes out after the engine is running. In case thislight goes out before you start the en- gine, you must turn to the "LOCK" position and restart the engine. In casethis light blinks for five seconds when the ignition key is turned to "ON" posi- tion, this indicates that the immobilizersystem is out of order. At this time, refer to the explanation of the Limp home procedure(See page 1-6) or con-sult to the Hyundai dealer.
B260S01B-GAT Diesel Pre-heat Indicator Light-Amber(Diesel Engine)
The indicator light illuminates amber when the ignition switch is placed at the "ON" position. The engine can be startedafter the pre-heat indicator light goes off. The illuminating time varies with the water temperature, air temperature andbattery condition. NOTE: If the engine were not started within 10 seconds after the preheating is completed, turn the ignition key once more to the "LOCK" position, andthen to the "ON" position, in order to preheat again.B260N01A-AAT Malfunction Indicator Light (If installed)
This light illuminates when there is a malfunction of an exhaust gas relatedcomponent, and the system is not func- tioning properly so that the exhaust gas regulation values are not satisfied. Thislight will also illuminate when the igni- tion key is turned to the "ON" position, and then it will go out in a few seconds.If it illuminates while driving, or does not illuminate when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, take your car toyour nearest authorized Hyundai dealer and have the system checked.
B260E02HP-GAT Seat Belt Reminder Light and Chime (If Installed)
The seat belt reminder light blinks for 6 seconds when the ignition key is turned from the "OFF" position to "ON" or"START". If the driver's seat belt is not fastened, the warning chime will sound at the same time.

Face-Level
Selecting the "Face" mode will cause air to be discharged through the face level vents.
This is used to select fresh outside air or recirculating inside air.
FreshRecirculation
With the " " mode selected, airenters the vehicle from outside and isheated or cooled according to the other functions selected. With the " " mode selected, air fromwithin the passenger compartment is drawn through the heating system and heated or cooled according to the otherfunctions selected. NOTE: It should be noted that prolonged operation of the heating system in " " mode will give rise to mistingof the windshield and side win- dows and the air within the passen- ger compartment will become stale.In addition prolonged use of the air conditioning with the " " mode selected may result in the air withinthe passenger compartment becom- ing excessively dry. B670D03A-AAT Air Flow Control This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to the floor, dashboard outlets, or windshield. Five symbolsare used to represent Face, Bi-Level, Floor, Floor-Defrost and Defrost air position.
