B150G01A-AAT Do Not Lie Down To reduce the chance of injuries in the event of an accident and to achievemaximum effectiveness of the restraint system, all passengers should be sit- ting up and the front seats should be inan upright position when the car is moving. A seat belt cannot provide proper protection if the person is lyingdown in the rear seat or if the front seat is in a reclined position.
WARNING:
Sitting in a reclined position or lyingdown when your vehicle is in motion can be dangerous. Even if you buckleup, your seat belts can't do their job when you're reclined. The shoulder belt can't do its jobbecause it won't be against your body. Instead, it will be in front of you. In a crash you could go into itwith great force, receiving serious neck or other injuries.
!The lap belt can't do its job either. In a crash the belt could go up over your abdomen. The belt forces would be applied there, not at your strongpelvic bones. This could cause seri- ous internal injuries. For proper protection when the ve-hicle is in motion, have the seatback upright. Then sit back in the seat and wear your seat belt properly. Seepage 1-22.
B160A01A-AAT CARE OF SEAT BELTS Seat belt systems should never be disassembled or modified. In addition, care should be taken to assure thatseat belts and belt hardware are not damaged by seat hinges, doors or other abuse. WARNING:
When you return the rear seatback toits upright position after the rearseatback was folded down, be care- ful not to damage the seat belt web- bing or buckle. Be sure that the web-bing or buckle does not get caught or pinched in the rear seat. B160B01A-AAT Periodic Inspection It is recommended that all seat belts be inspected periodically for wear or dam- age of any kind. Parts of the systemthat are damaged should be replaced as soon as possible.

26CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM
B230A03A-GAT (If Installed) Children riding in the car should sit in the rear seat and must always be prop-erly restrained to minimize the risk of injury in an accident, sudden stop or sudden maneuver. According to acci-dent statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seats than in the front seat. Larger childrennot in a child restraint should use one of the seat belts provided. You are required by law to use safetyrestraints for children. If small children ride in your vehicle you must put them in a child restraint system (safety seat).Children could be injured or killed in a crash if their restraints are not properly secured. For small children and babies,a child seat or infant seat must be used. Before buying a particular child restraint system, make sure it fits your car andseat belts, and fits your child. Follow all the instructions provided by the manu- facturer when installing the child re-straint system. WARNING:
o A child restraint system must be placed in the rear seat. Never in- stall a child or infant seat on the front passenger's seat.Should an accident occur and cause the passenger side airbag to deploy, it could severely injureor kill an infant or child seated in an infant or child seat. Thus, only use a child restraint in the rearseat of your vehicle.
o Since a safety belt or child re- straint system can become very hot if it is left in a closed vehicle, be sure to check the seat coverand buckles before placing a child there.
o When the child restraint system is not in use, store it in the trunk or fasten it with a safety belt so that itwill not be thrown forward in the case of a sudden stop or an acci- dent.

B230D04E-GAT Using a Child Restraint System with "ISOFIX" System and"Tether Anchorage" System ISOFIX is a standardised method of fitting child seats that eliminates the need to use the standard adult seat beltto secure the seat in the vehicle. This enables a much more secure and posi- tive location with the added benefit ofeasier and quicker installation. An ISOFIX-seat can only be installed if it has vehicle-specific approval in ac- cordance with the requirements of ECE- R44. For your Hyundai, the HyundaiISOFIX GR1 / Hyundai Duo / Römer
B230D01A ISOFIX GR1 and the Römer Duo ISOFIX / Britax Duo ISOFIX is approved ac-cording to the requirement ECE-R44. This seat has been tested extensively by Hyundai and is recommended foryour Hyundai. NOTE: At present, this seat is the only one complying with that provision. B240A01A-AAT (If Installed)
Your Hyundai is equipped with a Dual- stage Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) System. The indications of the system's presence are the letters "SRS AIRBAG"embossed on the airbag pad cover in the steering wheel and the passenger's side front panel pad above the glovebox. The Hyundai SRS consists of airbags installed under the pad covers in the center of the steering wheel and thepassenger's side front panel above the glove box. The purpose of the SRS is to provide the vehicle's driver and/or thefront passenger with additional protec- B240A03A
Driver's Airbag
!WARNING:
o As its name implies, the SRS is designed to work with, and be supplemental to, the driver's and the passenger's three point seatbelt systems and is not a substi- tute for them. Therefore, your seat belts must be worn at all timeswhile the vehicle is in motion. The airbags deploy only in certain fron- tal impact conditions severeenough to cause significant injury to the vehicle occupants.
NOTE:
o Be sure to read information about
the SRS on the labels provided on the backside of the sun visor andin the glove box.

combined with pre-tensioner seatbelts to help provided enhanced occupant protection in frontal crashes. Front airbags are not in-tended to deploy in light colli- sions in which protection can be provided by the pre-tensioner seatbelt.
tion than that offered by the seat-beltsystem alone, in case of a frontal im-pact of sufficient severity. The Dual-stage SRS uses a collection of sensors to gather information about the driver's and front passenger's seatposition, the driver's and front passenger's seat belt usage and im- pact severity. The driver's and front passenger's seat position sensors determine if the seats are fore or aft of a reference position.Similarly, the seat belt usage sensors determine if the driver and front passenger's seat belts are fastened. These sensors provide the ability to control the SRS deployment's pressure based on how close the driver's seat isto the steering wheel, how close the passenger's seat is to the instrument panel and whether or not the seat beltsare fastened. The dual-stage airbags offer the ability to control the airbag inflation with two pressure levels. A lower pressure levelis provided for moderate-severity im- pacts. A higher-pressure level is pro- vided for more severe impacts.
