2MAINTENANCE AND SER- VICING REQUIREMENTS
SF020A1-E To ensure the continued reliability and safety of the vehicle, certain routine maintenance operations are requiredat specific mileage or time intervals.It is the responsibility of the vehicleowner to ensure that the maintenanceschedules shown in both this Owners Manual and the Warranty and Service Passport are adhered to.The new vehicle warranty may beinvalidated if the routine maintenanceoperations are not performed in line with the recommendations outlined and the safety and durability of thevehicle adversely affected.It is recommended that all mainte-nance operations with the exceptionof the daily operating checks are en- trusted to a Hyundai dealer to ensure that the latest repair and maintenanceprocedures and specialized servicing tools are employed. In addition, the use of genuine Hyundai replacementparts will ensure that the vehicle safety and performance will not be compro- mised. NOTE:
The inspection and testing of cer-
tain electronic fuel injection/engine management and automatic trans- mission control systems requirespecialised electronic equipment specifically designed for Hyundai vehicles. The use of general pur-pose electrical test equipment may result in damage to the control unit microprocessors.

Specified Scheduled Procedures
The Specified scheduled procedures
are listed in the maintenance chartsbeginning at page 5-3. The opera- tions specified must be performed at the time or mileage intervals shownirrespective of whether the mileage interval has been reached before the specified time interval. Certain lubricants and components
degrade with both time and mileage(e.g. engine oil and brake fluid) and therefore it is not permissable to base the maintenance schedule upon mile-age alone. It is strongly recommended that the maintenance operations are performed by the factory-trained or distributor-trained technicians at yourHyundai dealer because of the need for specialized knowledge and tooling and to ensure that no possibility ofinvalidating the manufacturers war- ranty exists.
The maintenance schedules relate to
vehicles operated under normal con-ditions, vehicles which are operated under adverse conditions will requiremore frequent maintenance which is described at page 5-6. NOTE:
Service schedules may change de-
pending on individual country needs. Please ask your local Hyundai dealer for a copy of the service schedule that relates to thatcountry.

ENGINE OIL AND FILTER REPLACEMENT
o The engine oil consumption is strongly effected by the viscosity and quality of oil, engine rpm and driving condi- tion etc. More engine oil may be consumedunder severe driving conditions such as high speeds, frequent accelera- tion and deceleration, compared tonormal driving. G040A04A-EAT
The engine oil and filter must be changedat the time or mileage interval specifiedin the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe or adverse conditions, the oil and filtermust be replaced more frequently. To replace the oil and filter, proceed as follows:
1. Ensure that the engine is at normaloperating temperature and park the vehicle on level ground with the park- ing brake securely applied and the engine turned off.
2. Open the bonnet and remove the oil filler cap.

SG050D1-E To Change the Coolant The coolant should be changed at those intervals specified in the vehicle main-tenance schedule in Section 5. NOTE: Care should be taken to ensure that coolant is not allowed to spill onto the paintwork since the finish may become damaged. If coolant spill-age occurs, the affected area should be rinsed thoroughly with water.
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and
ensure that the parking brake is firmly applied, and the engine allowed tocool. Do not attempt this operation whilst the engine is hot since burning orscalding may result.
2. Prepare a suitable receptacle to col-
lect the displaced coolant and posi-tion this under the radiator drain tap.
3. With the heater temperature control
set to the "HOT" position, removethe radiator cap and open the radiator drain tap.

6. Start the engine with the radiator capstill removed and continue to add coolant as the level decreases as air is expelled from the system. When the level remains constant, replacethe radiator cap and replenish the coolant reservoir.
7. When the engine is hot, check to ensure that no coolant leaks arepresent.
4. When the engine coolant has drained completely, close the drain tap en-suring that this is not over tightened.
5. Prepare a suitable quantity of new
engine coolant (refer to section 9)and pour this into the radiator. WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by en- gine coolant temperature and maysometimes operate even when the engine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near theblades of the cooling fan so that you are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant tem-perature decreases, the fan will auto- matically shut off. This is a normal condition.

19CHECKING THE CLUTCH FLUID

SG130A1-C To Check the Clutch Fluid The clutch fluid level in the master cylinder should be checked when per-forming other under bonnet checks. The system should be checked for leakage at the same time.Ensure that the clutch fluid level is always between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings on the fluid reservoir. Fillas required. Fluid loss indicates a leak in the clutch system which should be inspected and repaired immediately.
WARNING:
Brake fluid is hygroscopic andshould never be stored in an un- sealed container. The presence of water in the braking system will causevapour locks and increase the possi- bility of brake fade along with pro- moting corrosion within the brakingsystem. The brake fluid must be changed at the specified time or mile- age interval to ensure continued safeoperation of the system. Brake fluid will cause rapid and serious damage to paintwork. If accidental spillageoccurs, the affected area must be rinsed with water immediately. Do not allow brake fluid to come intocontact with the eyes or to be in- gested and ensure that fluid is safely stored away form the reach of chil-dren.

SG130B2-E Adding Fluid Recommended brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 or DOT 4 should be used. Thereservoir cap must be fully tightened to avoid contamination from foreign mat- ter or moisture.
! CAUTION:
Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should never be stored in an un- sealed container. Do not allow petro-leum base fluid to contaminate the brake fluid since damage to the rub- ber seals of the system may result.
WARNING:
Brake fluid will cause rapid and seri-ous damage to paintwork. If acciden-tal spillage occurs, the affected area must be rinsed with water immedi- ately. Do not allow brake fluid tocome into contact with the eyes or to be ingested and ensure that fluid is safely stored away form the reach ofchildren.
