WARNING:
o Fuel vapors are dangerous. Be- fore refueling, always stop the engine and never allow sparks or open flames near the filler area. If you need to replace the filler cap,use a genuine Hyundai replace- ment part.
o If you open the fuel filler cap dur-
ing high ambient temperatures, aslight "pressure sound" may be heard. This is normal and not acause for concern. Whenever you open the fuel filler cap, turn it slowly.!
REMOTE FUEL-FILLER LID RELEASE
B560A02A-AAT The fuel-filler lid may be opened from inside the vehicle by pulling up on the fuel-filler lid opener located on the front floor area on the left side of the car. o Automotive fuels are flammable/
explosive materials. When refuel- ing, please note the followingguidelines carefully.
o Before touching the fuel nozzle or
fuel filler cap, have one's hands incontact with metal parts away from the filler neck to discharge static electricity.
o Do not get back in the vehicle while refueling. Do not operateanything that can produce staticelectricity. Static electricity dis- charge can ignite fuel vapors re- sulting in explosion.
o When using a portable fuel con- tainer be sure to place the con-tainer on the ground while refuel-ing. Static electricity discharge from the container can ignite fuel vapors causing a fire. While start-ing refueling contact should be maintained until the filling is com- plete.

o Do not use cellular phones around a gas station. The electric current or electronic interference fromcellular phones can ignite fuel vapors causing a fire.
o When refueling always shut the
engine off. Sparks by electricalequipment of the engine can ig- nite fuel vapors causing a fire. After refueling, check to make sure the fuel filler cap is securely closed, and then start the engine.

B740D01A-AATOperation Tips
o If the interior of the car is hot when
you first get in, open the windows for a few minutes to expel the hot air.
o When you are using the air condi-
tioning system, keep all windowsclosed to keep hot air out.
o When moving slowly, as in heavy
traffic, shift to a lower gear. This increases engine speed, which in turn increases the speed of the air conditioning compressor.
o On steep grades, turn the air condi- tioning off to avoid the possibility ofthe engine over-heating.
o During winter months or in periods when the air conditioning is not usedregularly, run the air conditioningonce every month for a few min- utes. This will help circulate the lubricantsand keep your system in peak oper- ating condition.
For dehumidified heating:
o Turn on the fan control switch (1).
o Turn on the air conditioning switch(4). The air conditioning indicatorlight should come on at the sametime.
o Set the air intake control (5) to the
fresh air ( ) position.
o Set the air flow control (2) to the face ( ) position.
o Adjust the fan control (1) to the de- sired speed.
o For more rapid action, set the fan at
one of the higher speeds.
o Adjust the temperature control (3) to provide the desired amount ofwarmth.

94STEREO SOUND SYSTEM
or the presence of buildings, bridges or other large obstructions in the area.
FM broadcasts are transmitted at highfrequencies and do not bend to follow the earth's surface. Because of this, FM broadcasts generally begin to fadeat short distances from the station. Also, FM signals are easily affected by buildings, mountains, or other obstruc-tions. These can result in certain listen- ing conditions which might lead you to believe a problem exists with your ra-dio. The following conditions are normal and do not indicate radio trouble:
AM broadcasts can be received atgreater distances than FM broadcasts. This is because AM radio waves aretransmitted at low frequencies. These long, low frequency radio waves can follow the curvature of the earth ratherthan travelling straight out into the atmosphere. In addition, they curve around obstructions so that they canprovide better signal coverage.
B750A02A-AAT How Car Audio Works
AM and FM radio signals are broadcast from transmitter towers located around your city. They are intercepted by the radio antenna on your car. This signal isthen received by the radio and sent to your car speakers. When a strong radio signal has reachedyour vehicle, the precise engineering of your audio system ensures the best possible quality reproduction. Howev-er, in some cases the signal coming to your vehicle may not be strong and clear. This can be due to factors suchas the distance from the radio station, closeness of other strong radio stations

2FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
B010A02A-EAT Petrol Engines THIS VEHICLE MUST ONLY BE OP- ERATED WITH UNLEADED FUEL.SERIOUS DAMAGE WILL RESULT FROM THE USE OF LEADED FUEL. However, care must be exercised when filling the vehicle tank from jerry cans orby means of a funnel that the fuel being used is unleaded. The use of leaded fuel in this vehicle willresult in irreversible pollution of the catalyst element. Such pollution will prevent correct operation of the cata-lyst and give rise to increased operating temperatures leading to the catalyst element melting and restricting the ex-haust flow along with an increase in exhaust emission levels.
Unleaded fuel with a Research Octane Number (RON) of 91 or higher must beused in this vehicle. To prevent accidental filling of the fuel tank with leaded fuel, a small diameterfiller neck along with a restrictor flap are fitted to ensure that only unleaded fuel pump nozzles may enter the filler neck.
!
CAUTION:
The vehicle warranty will not extend to damage arising from the use of incorrect fuels.
! Diesel Engines Diesel fuel of 52 to 54 cetane is the correct rating to use in your HyundaiAccent. If two types of diesel fuel are available, use summer or winter fuel properly according to the following tem-perature conditions.
o Above 23°F (-5°C) ... Summer type
diesel fuel.
o Below 23°F (-5°C) ... Winter type
diesel fuel.
Watch the fuel level in the tank very carefully : If the engine stops due to fuel failure, the circuits must be completelypurged to permit restarting.
CAUTION:
Do not let any petrol or water enterthe tank. If this happens, the tankshould be completely drained and the fuel lines should all be cleaned out. This will stop the fuel pumpfrom becoming contaminated.
