FRONT FOG LAMPS
Note: It is not possible to switch onthe front fog lamps when the lightingswitch is set to AUTO. To switch onthe front fog lamps, switch off theautolamps feature.
Switch on the headlamps 1 and pullout the control switch one position2.
The front fog lamps should be usedonly when visibility is considerablyrestricted by fog, snow or rain.
REAR FOG LAMPS
WARNING
The rear fog lamps may only beused when visibility is restrictedto less than 50 m and must not beused when it is raining or snowing.
Note: On vehicles not equipped withfront fog lamps the control switchcan be pulled out only one position.
Note: It is not possible to switch onthe rear fog lamps when the lightingswitch is set to AUTO. To switch onthe rear fog lamps, switch off theautolamps feature.
Switch on the exterior lamps 1 andpull out the control two positions 2.

On some models, with the switch inposition B, the interior lamps will stayon for a while after the doors areshut. They will switch off immediatelywhen the ignition is switched on.
When parking your vehicle with thedoors open for a long period of time,the interior lamps are switched offautomatically after 30 minutes.
To switch the lamps back on switchon the ignition (position II) for a shorttime.
Reading lamps
CHANGING A BULB
WARNINGS
On vehicles fitted with Xenonheadlamps, have the headlampbulbs changed by an expert. Thereis a risk of injury due to high voltage.
During operation, the bulbs andtheir surroundings get hot.Switch off the lights and let the bulbscool down before replacing them.
Note: Have the headlamp alignmentchecked after each replacement ofa bulb.
Always switch off lights and ignitionbefore replacing any bulb.
Never touch the glass of the bulbs.Fit only bulbs having a UV filter.Always replace a faulty bulb with anew one of the same type. Afterreplacing a bulb, check that the lightsoperate correctly.

If the lamp stays on afterstarting or illuminates duringa journey, stop immediately,switch off the engine and check theengine oil level. See Engine oil check(page 149). Top up straight away ifthe level is low.
Oil change indicator lamp
Vehicles with a dieselparticulate filter (DPF)
The oil change indicatorlamp will come on andremain on if the engine oilneeds to be changed outside of theregular service schedule. Have theengine oil changed as soon aspossible.
Your dealer will switch the oil changeindicator lamp off for you aftercompleting the oil change.

Stability control (ESP)indicator lamp
Note: If the it does not illuminatewhen the ignition is switched on or ifit stays illuminated whilst driving, itindicates a malfunction (unless thesystem has been switched offmanually when it will also illuminate).During a malfunction the system willbe switched off. Have the systemchecked by an expert.
Illuminates when stabilitycontrol is switched off andflashes when stability control(ESP) is activated.
AUDIBLE WARNINGS
AND INDICATORS
Frost
A warning tone will sound if theambient temperature falls below 4°C.
Lights on
A warning tone will sound if thedriver's door is opened when thelights are on.
Parking aid
A short tone will sound whenselecting reverse gear if the systemis operational. A continuous tone ora deep tone at three second intervalswill sound when selecting reversegear is the system has a malfunction.

CORRECT POSITION
•Sit in an upright position with thebase of your spine as far back aspossible and with the backrestreclined no more than 30degrees.
•Adjust the head restraints so thatthe top is level with the top of yourhead.
•Do not move the front seat tooclose to the instrument panel. Thedriver should hold the steeringwheel in the ‘10 to 2 o’clock’position with arms slightly bent.The legs should also be slightlybent so that the pedals can bepressed fully to the floor.
•The seat belt should cross thecentre of the shoulder; the lapstrap should fit tightly across thehips, not the stomach.

Do not adjust the seats whilethe vehicle is moving.
Moving the seats forwardsor backwards
Pull up on the lever. After releasingthe lever, rock the seat to ensure thatthe catch is securely engaged.

WARNING
Heating with the engine off willdrain the battery.
Note: The settings of the heatedseats are stored when the ignition isswitched off. When the ignition isswitched on again the settings arerestored automatically.
The heated seats can be individuallyadjusted step by step using thecontrols on the centre console.
Press the + button repeatedly to raisethe temperature. Pressing the –button repeatedly will lower thetemperature. The number ofilluminated lights beside the buttonindicates the selected step. When nolight is illuminated, the heating of theseat is switched off.
Recommended settings
Use step 1 or 2 for heating of the seatwith a comfortable temperature forlonger periods. The steps 4 and 5 areonly recommended for short periodswith a high difference in temperature.
VENTILATED SEATS
WARNING
Ventilating with the engine offwill drain the battery.
Note: The settings of the ventilatedseats are stored when the ignition isswitched off. When the ignition isswitched on again the settings arerestored automatically.
The ventilated seats can beindividually adjusted step by stepusing the controls on the centreconsole.

Never hold the lighter in as thiswill result in damage. Alwaysremove the lighter as a precautionwhen children are left alone in thevehicle.
To use the lighter press it in and waituntil it pops out automatically.

Cold/hot engine
WARNING
At temperatures below –20 ºC,turn the ignition key to positionII for at least one second. Thisensures that maximum fuel pressureis established.
Depress the clutch pedal fully andstart the engine without touching theaccelerator.
If the engine does not start within 15seconds, wait for a short period andrepeat the procedure.
If the engine does not start afterthree attempts wait 10 seconds andfollow the Flooded engineprocedure.
Flooded engine
Depress the clutch pedal fully.
Slowly depress the accelerator fully,hold it in this position and start theengine.
If the engine does not start repeatthe Cold/hot engine procedure.
STARTING A DIESEL
ENGINE
General points on starting
WARNING
If the engine does not start,refer to the instructionsregarding the fuel cut-off switch. SeeFuel cut-off switch (page 135).
Do not operate the starter for longerthan 30 seconds. Release the ignitionkey as soon as the engine hasstarted. If the engine has not started,return the ignition key to position 0and repeat the starting procedure.
Cold/hot engine
Depress the clutch pedal withouttouching the accelerator.
Note: The glow plug indicator lampalso functions as an engine warninglight. See Warning lamps andindicators (page 73).
Turn the key to position IIand ensure the glow plugindicator lamp illuminates.
