Notes about CD-R (Recordable CD)/ CD-RW (Rewritable CD)
With thisunit CD-ROMs, CD-Rs or CD-RWs can be played in CD-DA
(DigitalAudio) and MP3 mode.
Depending on the quality of the medium and the characteristics of
the recording some CDsmaynot be read. Thisisnormaland isnot
a sign ofmalfunctio
n.
Itwill not be possible to play a CD-R/CD-RW that hasnot been
finalized
2).K
What are MP3 files?
MP3 (MPEG 1 Audio Layer-3) isa standardised technology and
format for the compression of sound sequences. The sound file is
compressed to about 1/10th ofits originalsize. Soundsthatare
out of the human hearing range are excluded while those that are
within the
range are compressed.K
Supported recording formats
Itispossible to play MP3 filesrecorded on CD-ROMs, CD-Rs and
CD-RWs.
The unitsupports MP3 discs that have been formatted using the
ISO 9660 standard level1 or 2. The unitcan also playdiscs
recorded using the Romeo or Joliet standard.
The unitwill not play CDsr
ecorded using “Packetwriting” (UDF or
Direct CD formats) whether this has been used on the entire disc or
within a session. In this case the displaywill display an error
message and eject the CD.
I
ISSOO 99666600 ffoorrmmaatt
Thisis the most common ofinternationalstandardsfor the format
logicoffiles and folderson a CD-ROM.
There are differentlevelsofspecification. For level1, the names
must be in 8.3 format (8 charactersmaximum for the name of the
file + 3 cha
ractersfor the extension “.MP3”). Folder names cannot
be more than 8 letterslong. However, Level2 specificationsallow
up to 31 characters.

Thismethod ofrecording meansthatinformation maylater be
added to the CD (while there isenough space remaining and the
CD isnot closed). The information on each recorded CD is
contained within an area ma
rked by two data labelscalled “Lead-
in” for the beginning of the area and “Lead-out” for the finalization
of the area. A multi-session CD willallow for multiple segments
that contain their own “Lead-in” and “Lead-out” indicating the
beginning and end of the sessi
on.K1)The MP3 functionsare onlyavailable on the radio version with MP3.2)A processrequired so that a CD-R/CD-RW can be played by an audio CD player. Any
CD with a session open (not finalized) will not be recognized and the displaywillshow

• When an MP3 discisbeing played itispossible that some songsmaynot
play or may be played incorrectly. Thismay be due to the configuration of
the disc, the software or the hardware used for the recording.
• Audio CDs (CD-DA) meet the specificati
onsand carrya corresponding
symbol. Those CDswith copyright protection do notmeet these
specificationsand do not bear the corresponding symbol; for thisreason
there may be errorsin reading this type ofdisc.
• For MP3 CDs the MP3 data rate should oscillate betw
een 8 and 320
Kb/sec.
• Itispossible to read multi-session discs butif the data has been recorded
in both formats (CD-DA and MP3), regardless of the order, only the audio
trackswillbe played.• With other formats that are notISO 9660 level1 or 2, the names of the
files and fo
ldersmaynot be displayed correctly.
• When a name isgiven to an MP3 file, itmust also contain the extension
“.MP3”. If the extension “.MP3” isgiven to a file thatisnot an MP3 file then
the unitwill not be able to recognise the file and may p
roduce unpleasant
noise.
• Itisnot possible to play MP3 files that are deeper than the first 8 folder
levels. To speed up the reading and searching, onlytwo levelsoffoldersare
recommended.
• The following types ofdiscwilltake some time to beg
in playing:
– A discwith manyfolder levels.
– A multi-session disc.
– A disc to which information may be added (Open)
• Itwill not be possible to play an audio CD (CD-R/CD-RW) that hasnot been

Advice for the CD mode
To the end of guaranteeing an optimum quality of CD playback, itis
recommended to use onlydiscs that are notdamaged, scratched
or dirty.
Do not applylabels to the CDs.
Keep the CDsin a CD carrier (you may find one, for example, in the
SEAT OriginalAccessories Cata
logue) or in its case.
Never expose the discs to direct sunlight.
K
Advise for the cleaning of the CDs
To clean the CDs you mayuse a soft cloth thatdoesnot give off
fine threads. Clean the discsin a straightline from the centre
outward. If they are verydirty, you may also use a conventionalCD
cleaner or isopropylalcohol.
