o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch. The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control to the fresh air ( ) position.
o Set the air flow control to the face

o Adjust the fan control to the desired speed.
o For more rapid action, set the fan at one of the higher speeds.
o Adjust the temperature control to
provide the desired amount of warmth.

o If the interior of the car is hot when
you first get in, open the windows for a few minutes to expel the hot air.
o When you are using the air condi-
tioning system, keep all windowsclosed to keep hot air out.
o When moving slowly, as in heavy
traffic, shift to a lower gear. Thisincreases engine speed, which in turn increases the speed of the air conditioning compressor.
o On steep grades, turn the air condi- tioning off to avoid the possibility ofthe engine overheating.
o During winter months or in periods when the air conditioning is not usedregularly, run the air conditioning onceevery month for a few minutes. This will help circulate the lubricants and keep your system in peak operatingcondition.

2. Push the "TEMP" button to set the desired temperature. The temperature will increase to the maximum 90°F(32°C) by pushingon the button. Each push of the button will cause the temperature to increase by 1°F(0.5°C).The temperature will decrease to the minimum 62°F(17°C) by push- ing on the button. Each push ofthe button will cause the temperature to decrease by 1°F(0.5°C). NOTE: If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, the temperature mode will reset to Centigrade de- gree.This is a normal condition and you can adjust the temperature mode from Centigrade to Fahrenheit asfollows; Press the TEMP down ( ) button 3 seconds or more with the AMBbutton held down. 1. Push the "AUTO" switch. The indi-
cator light will come on confirming that the Face, Floor and/or Bi-Level modes as well as the blower speed and air conditioner will be controlledautomatically.

B980A01Y-AAT MANUAL OPERATION The heating and cooling system can be controlled manually as well as by pushing buttons other than the "AUTO" button. In this state, the system se-quentially works according to the order of buttons selected. The function of the buttons which arenot selected will be controlled auto- matically. Press the "AUTO" button in order toconvert to automatic control of the system.

B670C02HP-EAT Air Intake Control Switch This is used to select fresh outside air or recirculation inside air. To change the air intake control mode, push the control button. FRESH MODE ( ) : The indicator light on the button is illuminated whenthe air intake control is in fresh mode. RECIRCULATION MODE ( ) : The indicator light on the button is illumi- nated when the air intake control is in recirculation mode. With the "Fresh" mode selected, airenters the vehicle from the outside andis heated or cooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, air from within the passenger compart- ment will be drawn through the heatingsystem heated or cooled according to the function selected. NOTE:
o It should be noted that prolonged
operation of the heating in "recir- culation" mode will give rise to fogging of the windscreen andside windows and the air within the passenger compartment will become stale. In addition, pro-longed use of the air condition- ing with the "Recirculation" mode selected may result in the airwithin the passenger compart- ment becoming excessively dry.

B980B01Y-AAT Fan Speed Control The fan speed can be set to the desired speed by pressing the appropriate fan speed control button. The higher the fan speed is, the more air is delivered.Pressing the "OFF" button turns off the fan.

B980E01L-EAT Air Flow Control This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to the floor, dashboard outlets, or windscreen. Four symbols are used to represent Face, Bi-Level,Floor and Floor-Defrost air position. Face-Level
When selecting the "Face" mode, theindicator light will come on, causing airto be discharged through the face level vents.

o When the ignition switch is turned "ON" the air intake control will be changed to ( )mode (regard- less of switch position). This is normal operation. The air intakecontrol operates in "AUTO" mode when turning the ignition to the ON position if the "AUTO" modewas used before shutting off the engine.

WARNING: ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust gases are potentially lethal. If at any time engine exhaust gas is detected within the passenger compartment, move the vehicle to an open area and open all windows. o Never inhale exhaust gas. Exhaust gases contain Carbon Monoxide which is colourless and odourless. Carbon Monoxide is poisonous and can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation. o Exhaust System Maintenance. Ensure that the exhaust system is maintained in good condition and is free from excessive corrosion and damage which may result in leakage. If the vehicle is driven over an object which strikes the exhaust system,ensure that the exhaust system is inspected at the first available opportunity to ensure that no leakage exists. o Confined Areas. Do not run the engine in confined spaces, allowing the engine to idle in a garage, even when the doors are open is dangerous practice. Only start the engine immediately prior to moving the vehicle out of the garage. o Prolonged Idling. If it is necessary to allow the vehicle to idle for prolonged periods, ensure that the heating system air intake control is set to the "Fresh" position, the blower is set to high speed operation and that the vehicle is standing in an open area. o Load Carrying. If it is necessary to carry long objects which do not permit the hatchback door to be fully closed, the side windows must remain closed and the heating air intake control set to the "Fresh" position with the blower running at the highest speed setting. To ensure correct operation of the heater system, the air intake grilles at the base of the windscreen must not be obstructed by snow leaves etc..

NOTE: Do not operate the starter for more than 15 seconds continuously or continue to operate the starter afterthe engine has started to avoid dam- aging the starter motor. If the en- gine makes a false start, allow it andthe starter motor to come to rest before attempting to start the en- gine again. Never attempt to startthe engine with the transmission in gear. Do not depress the accelera- tor pedal whilst starting the engine.Allow the engine to idle for 20 sec- onds or so before driving the ve- hicle.
CAUTION:
Do not leave the vehicle unattendedwhilst idling. Never allow the vehicleto idle or warm up in a confined space (i.e. garage) longer than is necessary to move the vehicle intoan open area. C050B01HP-EAT Starting Procedure
1. Insert key, and fasten the seat belt.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. If your Hyundai is equipped with a
manual transmission, place the shiftlever in neutral and depress theclutch pedal fully. If your Hyundai has an automatic transmission, place the shift lever in "P" (park). NOTE: If the engine were not started within 2 seconds after the preheating is completed, turn the ignition keyonce more to the "LOCK" position during 10 seconds, and then to the "ON" position, in order to preheatagain.
WARNING:
Be sure that the clutch is fully de- pressed when starting a manual tranmission vehicle. Otherwise thereis the potential to cause damage to the vehicle or injury to someone inside or outside the ve-hicle as a result of the forward or backward movement of the vehicle that will occur if the clutch is notdepressed when the vehicle is started.
5. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and release it when the engine starts.

4. On vehicles equipped with the diesel preheat indication lamp, turn the igni- tion key to the "ON" position. The diesel-preheat indication lamp will first illuminate in amber, and thenafter a short time, the amber illumi- nation will go off, indicating that pre- heating is completed.
