Your Owner's Manual will introduce you to the features and operation of your new Hyundai. It is suggested that you read it carefully because the information it contains can contribute greatly to the satisfaction you receive from your new car. The manufacturer also recommends that all service and maintenance on your car be performed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. Hyundai dealers are prepared to provide high-quality service, maintenance and any other assistance that may be required.

2. Why should you use genuine parts? Hyundai Genuine Parts are engi- neered and built to meet rigid manu-facturing requirements. Using imi- tation, counterfeit or used salvage parts are not covered under the Hyundai New Vehicle Limited War-ranty or any other Hyundai war- ranty. In addition, any damage to or failure of Genuine Hyundai Partscaused by the installation or failure of an imitation, counterfeit or used salvage part is not covered byHyundai Motor Company.

B030A01P-GAT BEFORE OPERATION PRECAUTIONS FOR NEWVEHICLE The performance and life of a vehicle depend largely on how the vehicle is handled when new.To maintain the parts smoothly and sustain high performance for a long time to come, be sure to observe thefollowing points. Make sure that your vehicle does not miss the first 5,000 km inspec- tions. After the first 5,000 km of driving, take your vehicle to your nearest service shop for inspection. B040A01P-GAT OPERATION IN FOREIGN COUN- TRIES If you are going to drive your Hyundai in another country, be sure to:
o Observe all regulations regarding
registration and insurance.
o Determine that acceptable fuel is available.

B055A02P-GAT LOADING YOUR VEHICLE Never load the luggage and people to exceed GVWR(MLW) and GAWR ofyour vehicle. You can find the GVWR(MLW) and GAWR -maximum loading capacities-on the VIN plate. The GVWR(Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) or MLW(Maximum LoadedWeight) means total weight of the ve- hicle, all occupants, fuel and cargo. And GAWR means the maximumweights that the front and rear axles can endure the weights including ve- hicle itself weight.

Improperly loading your car canseriously affect its steering and braking performance causing a crash in which you may be seri-ously injured or killed. NOTE: Your warranty does not cover parts or components that fail because of overloading.

B070A01P-GAT MAINTENANCE It is necessary to maintain your vehicle in top operating condition in order to enjoy safe and pleasant driving.Some maintenance items can be done by the owner (Consumer information), while others should be done only by anauthorized dealer (periodic inspection and maintenance). For the maintenance items to be doneby the owner, prepare the appropriate materials and tools and follow the pro- cedures given in the "Consumer infor- mation" section of this manual. However, the periodic inspection andmaintenance should not be attempted by the owner, but should be done by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.Correct performance of the periodic inspection and maintenance items re- quires specialized knowledge andequipment. Having these items performed by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer with thelatest technology and equipment will ensure that your vehicle is maintained for optimum performance, economy,and safety. In addition, having all periodic inspec-tion and maintenance done by an au-thorized HYUNDAI dealer is a prereq- uisite for validity of the warranty on your vehicle in the event of a claim.Refer to the separate "Service Book- let" for the periodic inspection and maintenance items and intervals. The airbag modules are located both in the center of the steering wheel andin the front passenger's panel above the glove box. When the SRSCM de- tects a considerable impact to the frontof the vehicle, it will automatically de- ploy the airbags. Upon deployment, tear seams molded directly into the pad covers will sepa- rate under pressure from the expan-sion of the airbags. Further opening of the covers then allows full inflation of the airbags. A fully inflated airbag in combination with a properly worn seat belt slowsthe driver's or the passenger's forward motion, thus reducing the risk of head or chest injury. After complete inflation, the airbag immediately starts deflating, enablingthe driver to maintain forward visibility.
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) on the instrument panel will blink for about 6 seconds after the ignitionkey is turned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which the SRI should go out.B240B02L

B240B02P-AAT SRS Components and Functions The SRS consists of the following com- ponents:
- Driver's Side Airbag Module
- Passenger's Side Airbag Module
- SRS Service Reminder Indicator(SRI)
- SRS Control Module (SRSCM)
The SRSCM continually monitors allelements while the ignition is "ON" todetermine if a frontal or near-frontal impact is severe enough to require airbag deployment. B240B01L

o For cleaning the airbag pad cov-
ers, use only a soft, dry cloth or one which has been moistened with plain water. Solvents orcleaners could adversely affect the airbag covers and proper deployment of the system.
o No objects should be placed over or near the airbag modules onthe steering wheel, instrumentpanel, and the front passenger's panel above the glove box, be- cause any such object couldcause harm if the vehicle is in a crash severe enough to cause the airbags to inflate.
o If the airbags inflate, they must be replaced by an authorizedHyundai dealer.
o Do not tamper with or discon- nect SRS wiring, or other com-ponents of the SRS system. Do-ing so could result in injury, due to accidental inflation of the airbags or by rendering the SRSinoperative.
!WARNING:
o Extreme Hazard! Do not use a rearward facing child restraint on a seat protected by an airbag in front of it!
o Modification to SRS components
or wiring, including the additionof any kind of badges to the pad covers or modifications to thebody structure, can adversely affect SRS performance and lead to possible injury. B240C01HP
B240C01HP-GAT SRS Care The SRS is virtually maintenance-free and so there are no parts you cansafely service by yourself. The entire SRS system must be inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer 10 yearsafter the date that the vehicle was manufactured. Any work on the SRS system, such as removing, installing, repairing, or any work on the steering wheel must beperformed by a qualified Hyundai tech- nician. Improper handling of the SRS system may result in serious personalinjury.

STARTING AND OPERATING
19BRAKE SYSTEM
D150A01P-GAT All the parts of the brake system are critical to safety. Have the vehicle ser- viced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer at regular intervals according tothe service standards.
(1) The service brake is divided into two brake circuits so that when one brake circuit fails, the other is avail- able to stop the vehicle. If this oc-curs, however, the brake pedal must be depressed further than usual; stop driving as soon as possibleand have the brake system ser- viced at the nearest authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
(2) Do not place a thick floor mat around the brake pedal; doing so couldprevent the full pedal stroke thatwould be necessary in an emer- gency. Make sure that the pedal can be operated freely at all times.
(3) If the vehicle is equipped with a brake warning lamp, the lamp willlight up if the brake fluid level isabnormally low.
o Do not grip the inside or spokes of
the steering wheel when driving off-road. The steering wheel could jerk and injure your hands. Always firmly hold the outer steering wheel whenyou are driving off-road.
o Drive at lower speeds in strong
crosswinds. Because of yourvehicle’s high center of gravity, its stability will be affected in cross- winds. Slower speeds ensure bettervehicle control.
o Whenever you drive off-road through
sand, mud or water as deep as thewheel hub, more frequent mainte- nance may be required.
o Do not drive in water if the level is higher than the bottom of the wheelhubs.
o Check your brake condition once you are out of mud or water. Pressthe brake several times as you move slowly until your feel normal brakingforces return.
o Four-wheel driving on flat and nor-
mal roads can result in a severebinding condition when turning the steering wheel. Driving on dry paved road and highway Select 2H(2WD) to drive on dry paved roads. Especially on dry highway, neverselect the 4H or 4L(4WD). Driving on snowy or icy roads Select the 4H or 4L in accordance with the road conditions, and then gradu- ally depress the accelerator pedal for a smooth start. Driving on sandy or muddy roads Select the 4H or 4L and then gradually depress the accelerator pedal for a smooth start. Keep the pressure on the accelerator pedal constant as pos-sible, and drive at low speed. Climbing sharp grades Select the 4L to maximize use the engine torque. Descending sharp grades Select 4L, use the engine brake and descend slowly.
