Electrically operated seats - general information
Adjusting the front seats:
Passengers's seat: The passenger's seat can only be adjusted if the ignition key is in posi\
tion I or II.
Driver's seat: The driver's seat can be adjusted if the ignition key is in position I o\
r II (see
page 36).
However, it can also be adjusted:
l Within 40 seconds after the ignition has been switched off (even if the\
key has been removed from the
ignition switch).
l Within 40 seconds after the driver's door has been unlocked with the key\
or remote control and
opened. The key does not have to be in the ignition switch during this p\
eriod.
Remote keyless entry system and driver's seat
The remote control transmitter also controls the electrically operated d\
river's seat in the following way:
l Adjust the seat to your preferences.
l When you leave your car, lock it using the remote control.
l The next time you unlock the driver's door with the same remote control(the one you used to lock the
doors with) and open the driver's door, the driver's seat will automatically move to the position in which
you left it.
The seat will move to this position even if someone else has adjusted it\
since you last unlocked the car
with the same remote control.
NOTE:
l This feature will work in the same way with all of the remote control tr\
ansmitters (up to 3) that you
use with your car.
l This feature will not function if you lock your car with the key.

Auxiliary seat (option)
If all the seats are occupied, a rear-facing auxiliary seat in the cargo\
area can be used. This seat is
designed for two children, each weighing between 50 - 88 lbs. (23 - 40 \
kg) with a total seat capacity of
176 lbs. (80 kg) and up to 55 inches (140 cm) in height.
Raising
Remove the cargo area cover, if installed, from the car. Raise the backr\
est section forward until it locks
in place.
Flip the seat cushion over.
Lowering
Flip the seat cushion back into storage position.
Pull the release handle and lower the backrest to storage position. WARNING!
l If your car is equipped with an auxiliary seat (option or accessory), \
the tailgate must be fitted with
a lock cylinder. Unlocking from the outside can then be carried out in t\
he usual way (key in driver's
door and/or remote control) and also by using the key in the tailgate. \
l Both rear seat backrests must be up when the auxiliary seat is being use\
d. Do not use a booster
cushion or child seat in conjunction with the auxiliary seat.
l The luggage net should be retracted and the child safety lock in the tai\
lgate should be open to allow
access to the cargo area.
NOTE: If you have locked the car with the remote control and if you then after\
wards use a key in the
tailgate's lock cylinder (certain models) to unlock the tailgate only,\
the alarm will sound. See
page 80 for
information on turning off a sounding alarm.

Remote keyless entry system - replacing batteries
If the range of the transmitter is noticeably reduced, this indicates th\
at the battery is weak and should be
replaced.
To replace the battery
l Remove the cover by carefully prying up its rear edge with a small screw\
driver
l Replace the battery with a new 3-volt, CR 2032 battery. The battery shou\
ld be inserted with the plus
side upward. Avoid touching the contact surfaces of the battery with you\
r fingers.
l Press the cover back into place. Ensure that the rubber seal seats corre\
ctly to help prevent moisture
from entering the unit.
NOTE: The old battery should be disposed of properly at a recycling center or\
at your Volvo retailer.
WARNING!
Volvo does not recommend using the transmitter to lock the doors from in\
side the car. The alarm
would be activated and would sound when one of the doors is opened. The \
doors must not be locked
using the remote transmitter while the vehicle is occupied. In case of a\
n accident, this may hinder
rapid access to the occupants of the vehicle. The alarm will also sound.\
pg. 79 Locking and unlocking the car

l Pressing UNLOCK on the remote control twice.
l Using the central locking button on the driver's door.
l Pressing twice on the remote control's tailgate unlock button (see illustration on page 77).
