Getting started
Driving
6 Press the combination switch in the
direction of arrow 1or2.
The cor responding turn signal indicator
lamp flashes in the instrument cluster.
The combination switch moves back to
its basic position automatically after
large steering wheel movements.
i Press the switch briefly to signal a minor
change in direction. The appropriate turn signal
flashes three times. The combination switch is located on the
left of the steering column.

sp eed automatically when the vehicle is station-
ary. If intermitten twipe has been selecte d,the
wipe interval incre ases.
Ve hicles with arain sensor*:
Yo uc an use position Ias the universal position.
Th erain sensor automatically adjusts wiping fre-
quency depending onhow much rai nfalls on the
wiper sensor.
The rai nsensor is an advanced int elligent int er-
mitt ent function which shoul donlybe activated
wh en it is raining. Werecommend that you do
not acti vate the rai nsensor indry weather as dirt
or ooptical effects may cause inadv ertent wiper

Vehicles with a rain sensor*:
The winds cree nw iper s are aut omatically
sw itched to intermittent wipe when the vehicle is
station ary.
The intermitt ent wipe stops as soon asyou open
the driver's or passenger door. Thi sprotects per-
sons get ting intoor out of the vehicle from being
sprayed. Intermittent wipe continu eswhe nyou:
! turn the com bination switch to IIor III
or when the engine isrunning and you:
! close the doors again
! move the selector lever toDor R(vehicles

Briefly push the combination sw itch up
to the pressure point in the direc tion of
arrow 1.
The windscreen wipers wipe once with-
out washer fluid.
Wi ping the windscreen using washer fluid

Push the combination swi tch beyond
the pressure point in the direction of

The windscreen wipers wipe with
washer fluid.
i Wipe wit hwasher fluid, even ifit is rai ning.
This will help to prevent smears on the wind-

The rain sensor controls the windscreen wipers
au tomatically ,dependi ngon how wet the wind-
screen is.
6 Turn the com bination switch to I.
A wiper sweep takes place and subsequent
wipe intervals depend on how wetth e wind-

Good visibility
You will find information about the wind-
screen wipers and adj
usting the mirrors in
the "Getting started" section ( =page 31).
You will find information about mist edup
windscreens (= pages 159 and 169) and
demisting ( =pa ges 159 and 169) in the
"Thermatic" and "Thermotronic" sections.
The switch is located on the left next to the
steering wheel.
1 Headlamp cleaning 6
Make sure that the ignition isswitched
on.
6 Briefly press switch 1.
The headlamps are cleaned with a high-
pressur ewater jet. Rear-view mirror,
manual anti-da zzle
1 Anti-dazzle lever
6 Flick over anti-dazzl elever 1.
The rear-view mirror goes into anti-daz-
zle mode. Automatic anti-da
zzle mirrors*
The driver's side exterior mirror and the
rear-view mirror adjust automatically if:
! the ign ition is swi tched on and
! light from headlamps falls onthe sen-
sor in the rea r-view mirror
The mirrors do not go into anti-da zzle
mode when:
! reverse gear is engaged

The release lever for the bonnet is

in the footwell above the parking brake.

Pull release lev er1 in the driver's
footwell.
The bonnet is released.
2 Bonnet catch
6 Reach into the opening, push the han-
dle of bonnet catch 2upwards and lift
the bonnet.
! Make sure that th ewindscreen wipers are
not folded away from the windscreen. You could
ot he rwise damage the windscreen wipers or the

which carries a high voltage. For this reason,
you must ne ver tou chanyign ition sy stem
components (ign ition co il, ignition cables,
spark plug connections, test socket) while:
! the engine is running
! the engine is being started
! the ignition is switched on and the en-
gine is being cra nked by hand
The cooling fa ncan al sorun on au tomatical-
ly for up to ten minutes aft erthe key has
bee nremoved from the ignition. Keep away
