WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY

If your car has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealer or a commercial tow truckservice. This will help assure that your car is notdamaged in towing. Also, professionals are gen-erally aware of local laws governing towing. Inany case, rather than risk damage to your car, itis suggested that you show this information to thetow truck operator. Be sure that a safety chainsystem is used and that all local laws are ob-served.

o If the car is being towed with the rear wheels
on the ground, be sure the parking brake is released.
o If the car is being towed with the front wheels on the ground, be sure that the transaxle is inneutral. Also, be sure that the ignition key is inthe "ACC" position. This is necessary toprevent damage to the steering lock mecha-nism, which is not designed to hold the frontwheels straight while the car is being towed.
o If any of the loaded wheels or suspension components are damaged, a towing dollymust be used.

D060J01FC-GAT After Changing Wheels If you have a tire gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure islower than recommended, drive slowly to thenearest service station and inflate to the correctpressure. If it is too high, adjust it until it is correct.Always reinstall the valve cap after checking oradjusting tire pressure. If the cap is not replaced,air may leak from the tire. If you lose a valve cap,buy another and install it as soon as possible.After you have changed wheels, always securethe flat tire in its place in the luggage compart-ment and return the jack and tools to their properstorage locations.

o Engine Oil and Filter The engine oil and filter should be changed at
the intervals specified in the maintenance sched- ule. If the car is being driven in severe condi-tions, more frequent oil and filter changes arerequired.

o Drive Belts Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts,
cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation andreplace if necessary. Drive belts should bechecked periodically for proper tension andadjusted as necessary.

o Fuel Filter
A clogged filter can limit the speed at which the
vehicle may be driven, damage the emissionsystem and cause hard starting. If an exces-sive amount of foreign matter accumulates inthe fuel tank, the filter may require replacementmore frequently.
After installing a new filter, run the engine for
several minutes, and check for leaks at theconnections. Fuel filters should be installed bytrained technicians. F060D01A-AAT
o Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses and Connec-
tions
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and connec-
tions for leakage and damage. Have a trainedtechnician replace any damaged or leaking partsimmediately.

o Timing Belt Inspect all parts related to the timing belt for
damage and deformation. Replace any dam-aged parts immediately.

o Vapor Hose and Fuel Filler cap The vapor hose and fuel filler cap should be
inspected at those intervals specified in themaintenance schedule. Make sure that a newvapor hose or fuel filler cap is correctly re-placed.

o Vacuum, Crankcase
Ventilation Hoses
Inspect the surface of hoses for evidence of
heat and/or mechanical damage. Hard and brit-tle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, andexcessive swelling indicate deterioration. Par-ticular attention should be paid to examiningthose hose surfaces nearest to high heat sourc-es, such as the exhaust manifold. Inspect the hose routing to assure that the
hoses do not come in contact with any heatsource, sharp edges or moving componentwhich might cause heat damage or mechanicalwear. Inspect all hose connections, such asclamps and couplings, to make sure they aresecure, and that no leaks are present. Hosesshould be replaced immediately if there is anyevidence of deterioration or damage.

o Air Cleaner Filter
A Genuine Hyundai air cleaner filter is recom-
mended when the filter is replaced.

o Spark Plugs Make sure to install new spark plugs of the
correct heat range.

o Cooling System
Check the cooling system part, such as radia-
tor, coolant reservoir, hoses and connectionsfor leakage and damage. Replace any dam-aged parts. F060N02E-AAT
o Valve Clearance Inspect excessive valve noise and/or engine
vibration and adjust if necessary. A qualifiedtechnician should perform the operation.

6-8 4. Turn the radiator cap counterclockwise with-
out pressing down on it, until it stops. This relieves any pressure remaining in the cool-ing system. And remove the radiator cap bypushing down and turning counterclockwise. Now fill the radiator with clean demineral- ized or distilled water. Continue to add cleandemineralized or distilled water in small quan-tities until the fluid level stays up in theradiator neck.

To Change the Engine Coolant
The engine coolant should be changed at those
intervals specified in the vehicle maintenanceschedule in Section 5.
NOTE: Engine coolant can damage the finish of
your car. If you spill engine coolant on the car, wash it off thoroughly with clean water.
1. Park the car on level ground, set the park- ing brake and remove the radiator cap when cool.
2. Be sure your drain receptacle is in place. Open the drain cock on the radiator. Allowall the engine coolant to drain from thecooling system, then securely close the draincock.
3. Check Section 9 for the capacity of the cooling system in your car. Then, followingthe manufacturer's directions on the enginecoolant container, add the appropriate quan-tity of engine coolant to the radiator.

5. Start the engine, top off the radiator withwater and then add engine coolant to the reservoir until the level is between "L" and"F".
6. Replace the radiator and reservoir caps and check to be sure the drain cocks are fullyclosed and not leaking.
WARNING: The cooling fan is controlled by engine cool- ant temperature and may sometimes oper-ate even when the engine is not running.Use extreme caution when working near theblades of the coolant fan so that you are notinjured by a rotating fan blade. As the en-gine coolant temperature decreases, the fanwill automatically shut off. This is a normalcondition.

To Check the Transaxle Fluid Level

Park the car on level ground with the parking brake engaged. When the transaxle fluid levelis checked, the transaxle fluid should be atnormal operating temperature and the engineidling.

Transaxle Fluid Capacity
The fluid capacity of the automatic transaxle is 7.8 liters (8.2 U.S. quarts). WARNING: The transaxle fluid level should be checked when the engine is at normal operating tem-perature. This means that the engine, radia-tor, exhaust system etc., are very hot. Exer-cise great care not to burn yourself duringthis procedure.

To Check the Manual Transaxle Fluid Level

Park the car on level ground with the engine off.
1. Using a wrench of the correct size, loosen the oil filler plug by turning it counterclock- wise and remove it with your fingers.
2. Use your finger or suitable tool to feel inside the hole. The oil level should be at its bottomedge. If it is not, check for leaks beforeadding oil. To refill the transaxle or bring theoil level up,add oil slowly until it reaches theproper level. Do not overfill.
3. Replace the plug and washer, screw it in with your fingers and then tighten securelywith the wrench. G110A02A-AAT CHECKING THE TRANSAXLE FLUID (AUTOMATIC) Transaxle fluid in the automatic transaxle should be checked at those intervals specified in thevehicle maintenance schedule in Section 5. NOTE: Basically automatic transaxle fluid is red color. As driving distance increases, thefluid color turns darkish red gradually. It isnormal condition and you should not usefluid color as a criterion for replacing thetransaxle fluid. You must replace the automatic transaxle fluid in accordance with intervals specifiedin the vehicle maintenances schedule insection 5. G110B03A-AAT

B880C02A-EAT Key Numbers The vehicle key number is recorded upon a metal tag attached to the keys when the vehicle is first delivered toyou. The key number should be recorded and kept in a safe place in case theneed to order further keys arises. New keys are available from any Hyundai dealer by quoting the relevant keynumber. In the interest of security, the metal tagattached to the keys which bears thekey number should be removed from the key ring after you receive your new vehicle. In addition, key numbers can-not be provided by Hyundai for secu- rity reasons. If you need additional keys or if youshould lose your keys, your authorised Hyundai dealer can make new keys.

YB030C2-E (Not all models) Whenever a door is opened, the igni- tion switch will be illuminated for your convenience provided the ignition switch is not in the "ON" position. Thelight will go off approximately 10 sec- onds after closing the door or when the ignition switch is turned on.

WARNING:
o Unlocked doors can be danger- ous. Before you drive away (es- pecially if there are children inthe car), be sure that all the doors are securely closed and locked so that the doors cannot be inad-vertently opened from the inside. This helps ensure that doors will not be opened accidentally. Also,when combined with the proper use of seat belts, locking the doors helps keep occupants frombeing ejected from the car in case of an accident.
o Before opening the door, always look for and avoid oncoming traf-fic.

LOCK B040C01S-AAT Locking From the Outside The doors can be locked without a key. To lock the doors, first push the inside lock switch to the "LOCK" position sothat the red mark on the switch is not visible, then close the door. NOTE:
o When locking the door this way,
be careful not to lock the door with the ignition key left in thevehicle.
o To protect against theft, always
remove the ignition key, close allwindows, and lock all doors when leaving your vehicle unattended. HGK2009-E
