This manual explains operation, inspection,
basic maintenance and tuning of your
machine. If you have any questions about this
manual or your machine, please contact your

STARTING AND BREAK-IN
STARTING AND BREAK-IN
WARNING
Never start or run the engine in a closed
area. The exhaust fumes are poisonous;
they can cause loss of consciousness and
death in a very short time. Always operate
the machine in a well-ventilated area.
CAUTION:
The carburetor on this machine has a
built-in accelerator pump. Therefore,
when starting the engine, do not operate
the throttle or the spark plug will foul.
Unlike a two-stroke engine, this engine
cannot be kick started when the throttle is
open because the kickstarter may kick
back. Also, if the throttle is open the air/
fuel mixture may be too lean for the
engine to start.
Before starting the machine, perform the
checks in the pre-operation check list.
AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE
According to “AIR FILTER CLEANING” section
in the CHAPTER 3, apply the foam-air-filter oil
or its equivalent to the element. (Excess oil in
the element may adversely affect engine start-
ing.)
STARTING A COLD ENGINE
NOTE:
This model is equipped with an ignition circuit
cut-off system. The engine can be started
under the following conditions.
When the transmission is in neutral.
When the clutch is disengaged with the
transmission in any position. However, it is
recommended to shift into neutral before
starting the engine.
1. Inspect the coolant level.
2. Turn the fuel cock to “ON”.
3. Push the main switch to “ON”.
4. Shift the transmission into neutral.
5. Fully open the cold starter knob 1.
6. Start the engine by pushing the start
switch or by kicking the kickstarter.

WARNUNG
Den Motor keinesfalls in geschlos-
senen Räumen anlassen und be-
treiben. Abgase sind äußerst giftig
und führen in kurzer Zeit zu Be-
wußtlosigkeit und Tod. Daher den
Motor nur an gut belüftetem Ort
laufen lassen.
ACHTUNG:
Da dieser Vergaser mit einer
Beschleunigerpumpe ausgestat-
tet ist, sollte der Gasdrehgriff
beim Anlassen nicht betätigt
werden, um ein Verrölen der
Zündkerze zu vermeiden.
Es besteht beim Kickstarten
eines Viertakters mit geöffnetem
Gasdrehgriff Rückschlaggefahr.
Außerdem ist bei offener Dros-
selklappe das Startgemisch zu
mager.
Vor dem Anfahren unbedingt die
“ROUTINEKONTROLLE VOR
FAHRTBEGINN” ausführen.
LUFTFILTER-WARTUNG
Entsprechend dem Abschnitt “LUFT-
FILTER REINIGEN” in KAPITEL 3
das Schaum-Luftfilteröl oder entspre-
chendes Öl auf den Einsatz auftra-
gen. (Überschüssiges Öl im
Filtereinsatz kann das Motorstartver-
halten beeinträchtigen.)
KALTEN MOTOR ANLASSEN
HINWEIS:
Dieses Modell ist mit einem Zündun-
terbrechungssystem ausgestattet.
Der Motor kann unter den folgenden
Bedingungen gestartet werden:
Wenn das Getriebe auf Leerlauf
gestellt ist.
Wenn die Kupplung gelöst ist,
egal, welcher Gang eingelegt ist.
Es wird aber empfohlen, vor dem
Starten des Motors auf Leerlauf zu
schalten.
1. Den Kühlflüssigkeitstsand
kontrollieren.
2. Den Kraftstoffhahn auf “ON”
stellen.
3. Den Hauptschalter auf “ON”
stellen.
4. Das Getriebe in die Leerlauf-
stellung schalten.
5. Den (kaltstarterknopf 1 bis
zum Anschlag herausziehen).
6. Den Motor durch Drücken des
Startschalters oder Treten des
Kickstarters starten.
MISE EN MARCHE ET
RODAGE
AVERTISSEMENT
Ne jamais mettre le moteur en marche
dans un endroit clos. Les gaz d’échap-
pement sont nocifs et peuvent causer
une perte de conscience et même la
mort en quelques minutes. Toujours
faire marcher le moteur dans un
endroit bien ventilé.
ATTENTION:
Le carburateur de cette machine est
équipé d’une pompe d’accélération.
Il faut donc éviter d’actionner
l’accélérateur au moment de la mise
en marche du moteur, sous peine
d’encrasser la bougie.
Comme pour tous les quatre temps,
il ne faut pas actionner l’accéléra-
teur au moment d’actionner le
démarreur au pied, sinon le démar-
reur au pied risque de se relever
brutalement. De plus, l’ouverture
des gaz risque d’appauvrir à l’excès
le mélange air/carburant, ce qui
rendrait la mise en marche difficile.
Avant la mise en marche, effectuer
les vérifications indiquées dans la
liste de contrôle avant utilisation.
ENTRETIEN DU FILTRE A AIR
Comme indiqué dans “NETTOYAGE
DU FILTRE A AIR” au CHAPITRE 3,
appliquer de l’huile de filtre à air en
mousse ou une huile équivalente sur l’élé-
ment. (L’excès d’huile peut empêcher le
moteur de démarrer correctement).
MISE EN MARCHE D’UN MOTEUR
FROID
N.B.:
Cette machine est équipée d’un système
de coupure du circuit d’allumage. Les
conditions suivantes doivent être rem-
plies pour que le moteur puisse être mis
en marche.
La machine doit être au point mort.
L’embrayage doit être désengagé et
une vitesse quelconque sélectionnée.
Il est toutefois recommandé de passer
au point mort avant de mettre la
machine en marche.
1. Contrôler le niveau du liquide de
refroidissement.
2. Mettre le levier de carburant sur
“ON”.
3. Mettre le coupe-circuit du moteur
en position de marche “ON”.
4. Passer la boîte au point mort.
5. Ouvrir le bouton de démarrage à
froid 1 à fond.
6. Démarrer le moteur en appuyant
sur le commutateur de démarrage
ou en activant le kick.
ARRANQUE Y RODAJE
ADVERTENCIA
Nunca arranque ni utilice el motor en
una zona cerrada. Los gases del sis-
tema de escape son altamente nocivos
y pueden provocar una estado de
inconsciencia e incluso pueden resul-
tar letales en un breve espacio de
tiempo. Maneje siempre el vehículo en
una zona bien ventilada.
ATENCION:
El carburador de la motocicleta
tiene una bomba de aceleración
incorporada. Por tanto, cuando
arranque el motor, no accione el ace-
lerador porque la bujía se ensuciará.
A diferencia de los motores de dos
tiempos, este motor no puede arran-
carse con el pedal cuando el acelera-
dor esté abierto ya que el pedal podría
dar una patada. Asimismo, si el acele-
rador está abierto, la mezcla de aire y
combustible puede ser deficiente
como para que arranque el motor.
Antes de arrancar el vehículo, rea-
lice las comprobaciones de la lista
pertinente previas a la conducción.
MANTENIMIENTO DEL FILTRO
DE AIRE
De acuerdo con la sección “LIMPIEZA
DEL FILTRO DE AIRE” del CAPÍ-
TULO 3, aplique el aceite para filtros-
de-aire-de-esponja o su equivalente al
elemento. (Un exceso de aceite en el ele-
mento podrá afectar adversamente al
arranque del motor.)
ARRANQUE DEL MOTOR FRÍO
NOTA:
Este modelo está equipado con un sis-
tema de desactivación del circuito de
encendido. El motor podrá ser arrancado
en las siguientes condiciones.
Cuando la transmisión esté en punto
muerto.
Cuando el embrague esté desacoplado
con la transmisión en cualquier posi-
ción. Sin embargo, se recomienda
cambiar a punto muerto antes de
arrancar el motor.
1. Inspeccione el nivel de refrige-
rante.
2. Gire el grifo de combustible hasta
la posición “ON”.
3. Presione el interruptor principal
para ponerlo en “ON”.
4. Coloque la caja de cambios en la
posición de punto muerto.
5. Abra completamente el pomo de
arranque en frío 1.
6. Arranque el motor presionando el
interruptor de arranque o accio-
nando el arrancador de pedal.

NOTE:
If the engine fails to start by pushing the start
switch, release the switch, wait a few seconds,
and then try again. Each starting attempt
should be as short as possible to preserve the
battery. Do not crank the engine more than
10 seconds on any one attempt. If the engine
does not start with the starter motor, try using
the kickstarter.
WARNING
If the starter motor will not turn when
pushing the start switch, stop pushing it
immediately and kick start the engine in
order to avoid the load on the motor.
Do not open the throttle while kicking the
kickstarter. Otherwise, the kickstarter
may kick back.
7. Return the cold starter knob to its original
position and run the engine at 3,000 ~
5,000 r/min for 1 or 2 minutes.
NOTE:
Since this model is equipped with an accelera-
tor pump, if the engine is raced (the throttle
opened and closed), the air/fuel mixture will be
too rich and the engine may stall. Also unlike a
two-stroke engine, this model can idle.
CAUTION:
Do not warm up the engine for extended
periods of time.

HINWEIS:
Wenn der Motor beim Drücken des
Startschalters nicht anspringt, den
Schalter loslassen, einige Sekunden
warten, und erneut drücken. Jeder
Startversuch sollte so kurz wie mög-
lich gehalten werden, um die Batterie
zu schonen. Bei keinem Startver-
such den Motor länger als 10 Sekun-
den lang kurbeln. Wenn der Motor
sich mit dem Startermotor nicht star-
ten läßt, verwenden Sie den Kick-
starter.
WARNUNG
Wenn der Startermotor nicht
dreht, wenn der Startschalter
gedrückt wird, sofort zu drücken
aufhören und den Motor mit
Kickstarter starten, um Bela-
stung des Motors zu vermeiden.
Den Gasdrehgriff beim Kickstar-
ten nicht öffnen, um ein Rück-
schlagen des Kickstarters zu
vermeiden.
7. Den Kaltstarterknopf wieder in
die ursprüngliche Stellung zu-
rückschieben und den Motor
bei 3.000 bis 5.000 Umdre-
hungen 1 bis 2 Minuten lang
warmlaufen lassen.
HINWEIS:
Da dieser Vergaser mit einer Be-
schleunigerpumpe ausgestattet ist,
sollte der Motor beim Warmlaufen
nicht hochgedreht werden, um eine
zu starke Anreicherung des Ge-
mischs und ein Absterben des Mo-
tors zu vermeiden. Übrigens darf ein
Viertakter bedenkenlos bei konstan-
ter Drehzahl warmgelaufen werden.
ACHTUNG:
Den Motor nicht zu lange warm-
laufen lassen.
N.B.:
Si le moteur ne démarre pas avec le com-
mutateur de démarrage, relâcher le com-
mutateur, attendre quelques secondes et
ressayer. Chaque essai doit être bref,
sinon la batterie risque de s’user. Ne pas
essayer de mettre le moteur en marche
plus de 10 secondes chaque fois. Si le
moteur ne démarre pas, essayer avec le
kick.
AVERTISSEMENT
Si une pression du contacteur de
démarrage ne fait pas tourner le
démarreur, cesser immédiatement
d’appuyer dessus et démarrer le
moteur au kick pour éviter de sur-
charger le moteur.
Ne pas donner des gaz au moment
où l’on actionne le démarreur au
pied, car celui-ci risque de se relever
brutalement.
7. Refermer le starter en amenant le
bouton de démarrage à froid à sa
position d’origine, puis faire
tourner le moteur à 3.000 à
5.000 tr/mn pendant 1 à 2 minu-
tes.
N.B.:
Puisque ce modèle est équipé d’une
pompe d’accélération, le mélange air/
carburant devient trop riche et le moteur
risque de caler lorsque l’on emballe le
moteur (actionnement successif rapide
de l’accélérateur). A l’inverse d’un
moteur deux temps, ce modèle, comme
tous les quatre temps, peut tourner au
ralenti sans problème.
ATTENTION:
Ne pas laisser le moteur se réchauffer
trop longtemps.
NOTA:
Si el motor no arrancase presionando el
interruptor de arranque, suelte el inte-
rruptor, espere unos pocos segundos, y
después intente otra vez. Cada intento de
arranque deberá ser lo más corto posible
para no descargar la batería. No presione
el interruptor de arranque durante más de
10 segundos seguidos en ninguno de los
intentos. Si el interruptor no arrancase
con el motor de arranque, intente utili-
zando el arrancador de pedal.
ADVERTENCIA
Si el motor de arranque no girase al
presionar el interruptor de arran-
que, deje de presionarlo inmediata-
mente y arranque el motor con el
pedal de arranque para evitar for-
zar el motor.
No abra el acelerador mientras esté
pisando el arrancador de pedal. En
caso contrario, el arrancador de
pedal puede retroceder.
7. Coloque el pomo de arranque en
frío en su posición original y haga
funcionar el motor a 3.000 a
5.000 r/min durante 1 o 2 minu-
tos.
NOTA:
Debido a que este modelo está equipado
con una bomba de aceleración, si el
motor está acelerado (el acelerador
abierto y cerrado), la mezcla de aire y
combustible será demasiado rica y el
motor podría detenerse. Asimismo, a
diferencia de los motores de dos tiem-
pos, este modelo puede quedar inactivo.
ATENCION:
No caliente el motor durante un
periodo prolongado de tiempo.
