3. INSPECT TACHOMETER
(a) Check the operation
(1) Connect a tune±up test tachometer, and start the engine.
NOTICE:
Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and the insides of the
diodes .
When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to heavy
shocks.
(2) Compare the result of the test with standard indication.

4. INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE
(a) Inspect the circuit.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON, then check the posi-
tion of the receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: EMPTY
(3) Connect the terminal 2 and 3 on the wire harness
side connector of fuel sender gauge.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to ON, then check the posi-
tion of the receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: FULL
5. INSPECT FUEL LEVEL WARNING
(a) Inspect the circuit.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON, check the fuel level needle indicates EMPTY and fuel level warn-
ing light comes on.
6. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE RECEIVER GAUGE WARNING LIGHT
(a) Inspect the circuit.
(1) Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON, check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge
needle.
Needle position: COOL
(3) Ground the terminal 2 on the wire harness side, then check the position of the water temperature
receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: HOT

(a)Remove the 5 nuts and the engine cover.
5.REMOVE VACUUM RESERVOIR SUB±ASSY
(a)Disconnect the 2 vacuum hoses and the connector.
(b)Remove the 2 bolts and the vacuum reservoir.
6.REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSY
(a)Disconnect the PCV hose and the connector.
(b)Remove the air cleaner cap with the air cleaner hose.
(c)Remove the air cleaner filter element.
(d)Remove the 3 bolts and the air cleaner case. 7.REMOVE INTERCOOLER AIR HOSE
(a)Remove the 3 bolts and nut, separate the air tube No.1.
(b)Loosen the hose clamp bolts and remove the air hoseNo.1.
8.REMOVE FUEL FILTER ASSY(See page 11±82) 9. SEPARATE HEATER PUMP ASSY (W/ COLD AREA)
(a) Remove the nut and disconnect the connector.
(b) Separate the heater pump.

(a)Install the air hose and hose clamps as shown in the il-
lustration.
(b)Tighten the hose clamps as shown in the illustration. Torque: 6.0 N m (61 kgf cm, 53 in. lbf)
(c)Install the air tube No. 1 with the 3 bolts and nut. Torque: 25 N m (255 kgf cm, 18 ft lbf)
42.INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSY Torque: 7.0 N m (71 kgf cm, 62 in. lbf)

REPLACEMENT
1.DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT(See page 16±44)
2.DRAIN ENGINE OIL(See page 17±30)
3.REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 4.REMOVE OIL COOLER ASSY
(a)Disconnect the 2 cooler hoses from the oil cooler.
(b)Remove the union bolt and the oil cooler.
(c)Remove the O±ring from the oil cooler.
(d)Remove the O±ring from the union bolt.
5.INSTALL OIL COOLER ASSY
(a)Clean the oil cooler mounting surface.
(b)Install a new O±ring to the union bolt.
(c)Install a new O±ring to the oil cooler.
(d)Apply a light coat of engine oil on the threads of the unionbolt.
(e)Align the tab of the oil cooler with the tab located on the cylinder block.
(f)Install the oil cooler with the union bolt. Torque: 45 N m (454 kgf cm, 33 ft lbf)
(g)Connect the 2 cooler hoses to the oil cooler.

REPLACEMENT
1.DRAIN ENGINE OIL
(a)Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain engine oil.
2.REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CHAIN SUB±ASSY (See page 14±49)
3.REMOVE CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER NO.1
(a)Remove the 2 bolts and the chain vibration damper No. 1.
4.REMOVE OIL PUMP ASSY
(a)Remove the 5 bolts.
(b)Remove the oil pump assy and the gasket.
5.INSTALL OIL PUMP ASSY
(a)Place a new gasket on the cylinder block.
(b)Align the keyway of the oil pump drive rotor with the rect-angular portion of the crankshaft and slide the oil pump
into place.
(c)Install the oil pump with the 5 bolts. Torque: 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf)
6.INSTALL CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER NO.1
(a)Install the chain vibration damper No. 1 with 2 bolts. Torque: 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm,8.0 in. lbf)
7.INSTALL OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG
(a)Clean and install the oil pan drain plug with a new gasket.
Torque: 37 N m (377 kgf cm,27 ft lbf)
8.ADD ENGINE OIL (See page 17±4)
9.ADD ENGINE COOLANT (See page 16±7)
