The warning light remains onthroughout the disarming process. Side air bags* and curtain air bags** Side air bags are incorporated into the front seat back frame, onthe door side. Curtain air bags are incorporated into the door pillars and the top ofthe passenger compartment. They are deployed independently
of each other, depending onwhich side the collision occurs.

AIR BAGS The air bag system has been desi- gned to maximise the safety of theoccupants in the event of seriouscollisions. It works in conjunctionwith the force limiting seat belts. Front air bags These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driverand in the fascia for the front

simultaneously, except in caseswhere the passenger air bag isdisarmed. Precautions regarding the passenger air bag ➜
disarm the air bag if you ins- tall a rear facing child seat,
➜ activate the air bag for an
adult passenger.

Disarming the passenger air bag* ➜with the ignition off, insert the key into slot 1and turn the
passenger air bag switch tothe "OFF" position.
As soon as you remove the childseat, turn the air bag switch to the"ON" position, to activate the air
bag again.

- or exceptionally the child seat may be fitted in the 'forwards facing'position if the rear seats are alrea-dy occupied by other children or ifthe rear seats cannot be used (notpresent, folded). In this case, usethe Isofix mountings, the restrai-ning cushion and the seat belt andadjust the front passenger seat tothe "mid-travel" position.
In both cases it is imperative todisarm the passenger air bag. In the rear , the child seat may be fit-
ted in the "rear facing" or "forwards facing" position. In this case the
front seat is in the intermediatelongitudinal position, seat backupright .
The combined use of the Isofixmountings, the restraining cushionand the seat belt is compulsory for aseat fitted "facing forward".

The special child seat, approved by
PEUGEOT, is the Isofix KIDDY seat.It can be used "rear facing" from 3 to
11 kg and "forwards facing" from 9 to18 kg. This seat can also be used on seats not fitted with Isofix mountings:buckling of the three-point seat belt
is then compulsory. Follow the instructions for fitting the child seat given in the instruc-tion booklet. * During 2001.

CHILD SEATS Although one of PEUGEOT's main criteria when designing your vehicle, the safety of your children also depends on you.
For optimum safety, please follow the following precautions:
- All children under the age of 10 are required to travel in approved restraining equipment*, suited to their weight, in a seatfitted with a seat belt
- front passenger seat*: children under the age of 10 must not travel in the "forwards facing" position, unless the rear seats are already occupied by other children or the rear seats cannot be used (not present, folded). In this case, adjust the front
passenger seat to the "mid-travel" position. The "rear facing" position is authorised.
After carrying out numerous tests, PEUGEOT recommends the following systems: Up to 18 months (up to 29 lbs. or 13 kg)
"Ršmer Babysure ", is installed with its back to the engine and secured with a three-point seat belt, on either the front or rear seat. In the front, the passenger seat must be adjusted to the "mid-travel" position.
From 9 months to 3 or 4 years (20 to 40 lbs. or 9 to 18 kg) "Ršmer Prince" is fitted in the rear with a three-point seat belt.For the safety of your children, the seat and the restraining cushion must never be separated.
From 3 to 10 years (33 to 80 lbs or 15 to 36 kg) "Ršmer Vario": is fitted in the rear with a two or three point seat belt.

Never leave the keys within reach
of children inside the car. Strap children into their seats even on short journeys. Observe the precautions regar- ding the passenger air bag. Observe the fitting and fastening recommendations, indicated in
the child seat instructions, strictly.

From 3 to 10 years (33 to 80 lbs or 15 to 36 kg) "Recaro Start": is fitted in the rear with the three-point seat belt. The height, depth and length of the seat must be adjusted in line with the age and size of your child. "Klippan Optima" : is fitted in the rear with a three-point seat belt. Above 6 years (approximately 45 lbs or 22 kg).
Remember, even for short journeys, to fasten the three-point seat belts or the child seat straps, keeping the slack in relation to the child's body to a minimum.
To prevent the doors from opening accidentally, use the ''child-proof'' lock. Also, do not open the rear windows more than a third.

Front air bag malfunctionIf this warning light comes on, accompanied by a buz-zer and the message "Air
bag fault" on the multifunc-
tion display, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer to have the sys-tem checked.
AIR BAGS The air bags have been designed to maximise the safety of the occupantsin the event of serious collisions;they work in conjunction with theforce limiting seat belts. In the event of a serious collision, the electronic detectors record and ana-lyse any abrupt deceleration of thevehicle: if the triggering threshold isreached, the air bags inflate instantlyand protect the occupants of thevehicle. Immediately after the impact, the air
bags deflate rapidly, so that they donot hinder the visibility of the occu-pants nor their possible exit from thevehicle. The air bags will not be deployed in collisions which are not serious, for
which the seat belt is sufficient to
provide maximum protection. Theseriousness of the collision dependson the nature of the obstacle and thespeed of the vehicle at the momentof impact. Air bags operate only when the ignition is switched on. Note: the gas escaping from the air
bags can be a minor irritant. FRONT AIR BAGS These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in
the fascia for the front passenger.
They are deployed simultaneously,except in cases where the air bag isdisarmed.
Disarming the passenger air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the pas-senger air bag when you install arear-facing child seat on the frontpassenger seat.
With the ignition switched off, insert the key into the passengerair bag disarming slot 1, turn it to
the "OFF" position, then remove
it keeping it in this position.
The air bag warning light on the instru-ment panel is lit throughout the disar-ming process.
