B235G01Y-GAT Installation on Center Rear Seats
B235G01Y-1
Use the center seat belt for the rear to secure the child restraint system asillustrated. After installation of thechild restraint system, rock the child seat back and forth, and side to side to ensure that it is properly secured bythe seat belt.If the child seat moves, readjust thelength of the seat belt. Then, ifequipped, insert the child restraint tether strap hook into the child re- straint hook holder and tighten to se-cure the seat. Always refer to the childrestraint system manufacturer's rec-ommendation before installing the childrestraint system in your vehicle.
On outboard rear seats
B230G01A-GAT Installation on the Outboard Rear Seats To install a child restraint system on the outboard rear seats, extend theshoulder/lap belt from its retractor.Buckle the seat belt and allow the seatbelt to take up any slack. Make sure that the lap portion of the belt is tight around the child restraint system andthe shoulder portion of the belt is posi-tioned so that it cannot interfere withthe child's head or neck. After installa-tion of the child restraint system, try to move it in all directions to be sure the child restraint system is securely in-stalled. B230G01L
If you need to tighten the belt, pullmore webbing toward the retractor. When you unbuckle the seat belt andallow it to retract, the retractor willautomatically revert back to its normal seated passenger emergency locking usage condition. NOTE:
o Before installing the child re-
straint system, read the instruc- tions supplied by the child re-straint system manufacturer.
o If the seat belt does not operate
as described, have the systemchecked immediately by yourauthorized Hyundai dealer.
WARNING:
Do not install any child restraint system in the front passenger seat. Should an accident occur and causethe passenger's side airbag to de-ploy, it could severely injure or killan infant or child seated in an infantor child seat. Therefore, only use a child restraint system in the rear seat of your vehicle.

o Although it is harmless, the fine
dust may cause skin irritation and should not be breathed forprolonged periods. Wash yourhands and face thoroughly after an accident in which the pre- tensioner seat belts were acti-vated.
CAUTION:
o Because the sensor that activates the SRS airbag is connected withpre-tensioner seat belt, the SRSairbag warning light on theinstrument panel will blink for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition key has been turnedto the "ON" position, and then itshould turn off.
o If pre-tensioner seat belt is not working properly, this warning light will illuminate even if there is no malfunction of the SRSairbag. If the SRS airbag warninglight does not illuminate whenthe ignition key is turned to "ON"or if it remains illuminated after blinking for approximately 6 sec- onds, or if it illuminates while the

NOTE:
o Both the driver's and front
passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be activated in certainfrontal collisions. The pre-tensioner seat belts can be acti-vated alone or, where the frontal collision is severe enough, to- gether with the airbags.
o When the pre-tensioner seat belts
are activated, a loud noise maybe heard and fine dust, whichmay appear to be smoke, may be visible in the passenger compart- ment. These are normal operat-ing conditions and are not haz-ardous. WARNING:
To obtain maximum benefit from a pre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly.
2. The seat belt must be adjusted to the correct position.B180B02S

1- 32 FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDAI
o Front airbags are not intended to
deploy in side-impact, rear-im- pact or rollover crashes. In addi-tion, airbags will not deploy infrontal crashes below the deploy-ment threshold speed.
o The driver should sit back as far as possible while still maintain-ing control of the vehicle. If youare sitting too close to the airbag,it can cause death or seriousinjury when it inflates.
o No objects should be placed over or near the airbag modules onthe steering wheel, instrumentpanel, and the front passenger'spanel above the glove box, because any such object couldcause harm if the vehicle is in a crash severe enough to cause the airbags to deploy.
o If the airbags deploy, they must
be replaced by an authorizedHyundai dealer.o The SRS is designed to deploythe airbags only when an impact is sufficiently severe and whenthe impact angle is less than 30°from the forward longitudinal axisof the vehicle and will not deployin side, rear or rollover impacts. Additionally, the airbags will only deploy once. Thus, seat beltsmust be worn at all times.
o Front airbags are not intended deploy in light collisions in whichprotection can be provided by the seat belt.

the front passenger with additional pro- tection than that offered by the seat-belt system alone, in case of a frontalimpact of sufficient severity. NOTE: Be sure to read information about the SRS on the labels provided on the backside of the sun visor and inthe glove box.
!WARNING:
o As its name implies, the SRS is designed to work with, and be supplemental to, the driver's andthe passenger's three point seatbelt systems and is not a substi- tute for them. Therefore, your seat belts must be worn at alltimes while the vehicle is in mo-tion. The airbags deploy only incertain frontal impact conditionssevere enough to likely cause significant injury to the vehicle occupants.
FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDAI 1- 35
B990A04Y-GAT PASSENGER PRESENCE DETECTION (If installed) The passenger presence detection system detects the presence of a pas-senger in the front seat. If no passen-ger is recognized on the front passen-ger seat, the deployment of the front passenger and/or side airbag and seat belt pretentioner will be inhibited. This system is designed primarily toprevent the replacement of airbag com-ponents that deploy needlessly in anaccident. NOTE: Luggage or other cargo heavier than 15 kg should not be placed on the passenger front seat. This can al-low the deployment of the frontpassenger and/or side air bag inthe case of an accident.
o The SRS can function only when
the ignition key is in the "ON"position. If the SRS SRI does notcome on, or continuously re-mains on, after flashing for about6 seconds when the ignition keyis turned to the "ON" position, or after the engine is started, comes on while driving, the SRS is notworking properly. If this occurs, have your vehicle immediatelyinspected by your Hyundaidealer.
o Before you replace a fuse or dis-
connect a battery terminal, turnthe ignition key to the "LOCK"position or remove the ignitionkey. Never remove or replace theair bag related fuse(s) when the ignition key is in the "ON" posi- tion. Failure to heed this warningwill cause the SRS SRI to illumi-nate.
WARNING:
o When the SRS is activated, there may be a loud noise and fine dustwill be released throughout thevehicle. These conditions arenormal and are not hazardous. However, the fine dust generated during airbag deployment maycause skin irritation. Wash yourhands and face thoroughly withlukewarm water and a mild soapafter an accident in which the airbags were deployed.

CAUTION:
When installing a container of liq- uid air freshener inside a vehicle, do not place it near the instrument cluster nor on the instrument panelpad surface. If there is any leakagefrom the air freshener onto theseareas (Instrument cluster, instru-ment panel pad or air ventilator), it may damage these parts. If the liq- uid from air freshener does leakonto these areas, wash them withwater immediately.!

WARNING:
o The side impact airbag is supple- mental to the driver's and the passenger's three point seat beltsystems and is not a substitutefor them. Therefore your seatbelts must be worn at all timeswhile the vehicle is in motion. The airbags deploy only in cer- tain side impact conditions se-vere enough to cause significantinjury to the vehicle occupants. HXGS261

B990B04Y-GAT Side Impact Airbag (If installed)
Your Hyundai is equipped with a side airbag in each front seat. The purposeof the airbag is to provide the vehicle'sdriver and/or the front passenger with additional protection than that offered by the seatbelt alone. The side impactairbags are designed to deploy onlyduring certain side impact collisions, depending on the crash severity, angle, speed and point of impact. The air bags are not designed to deploy in all side impact situations. B990B02Y

WARNING:
The Passenger Presence Detection system is not intended to preventairbag deployment while a child isin the front passenger's seat. It is intended only as a means to reduce unnecessary collision damage re-pair expense by preventing airbagand seat belt pretensioner deploy-ment when the right front passen-ger seat is unoccupied. Deployment is still possible if only a few pounds are placed upon the seat. There-fore, children must not be trans-ported in the front seat. All childrenmust be seated in the rear seat andproperly restrained with the vehicle's restraint system or a child restraint system appropriate for thechild's size and weight.!
