Filling the LPG tank
(Capacity approximately 46 litres)
– switch off the ignition,
– unscrew the cap protecting thefiller opening,
– lock the filler nozzle onto the opening (if necessary, screw the
appropriate adapter*, located in
the insulated compartment, onto
the filler opening first),
– push the button on the pump,
– once filling has stopped automati cally, unlock the filler nozzle,
– screw the protective cap back onto the filler opening.
* according to destination. Petrol gauge
When the low petrol level indicator
comes on, fill the tank without delay
as the engine can only start using
petrol. Furthermore, a low petrol
level may result in fuel circuit faults.
Gas gauge
If the outside temperature is high,
the gas level indicated by the fuel
gauge may be slightly higher than
the actual level. Safety advice
The safety valve must be
closed before any mainte
nance or repair work is
carried out on your vehicle. To
close it, switch off the ignition.
Ensure that there is no risk that
the loads carried may damage the
tank.
Testing the tank
Decree of 18/01/43 and applica
tion of article 3 of the A.M. of
24/11/82.
The maximum interval between
successive tests is eight years.
However, the test must be repeat
ed whenever the vehicle is sold, if
this sale takes place more than
5 years following the last test.
It is imperative that any work on
the LPG feed system is carried
out by a PEUGEOT dealer.

AUTOMATIC SWITCHING ON
OF THE LIGHTS
Side lights and dipped beam head
lamps switch on automatically if the
light is poor, or during continuous
operation of the windscreen wipers.
They switch off as soon as the light
becomes bright enough or the wind
screen wipers stop.
This function is active when the vehi
cle is supplied to the customer.
To disarm or activate the function: Place the key in the accessories
position (1st notch),
 Press the end of the lights stalk
for more than two seconds.
Note: In foggy weather, the bright
ness sensor can detect sufficient
light. Because of this, the lights do
not come on automatically.
Do not cover the brightness sen
sor connected to the rain sensor,
located in the windscreen behind
the mirror. It is used for automatic
switching on of the lights. Operating check
Activation
Activation of this function is accom
panied by an audible signal and the
message
"Automatic lighting of
the headlamps activated" on the
multifunction display.
Note: Always operate the lighting
controls manually where this is pos
sible.
Disarming
Disarming of the function is accom
panied by an audible signal.
When driving, if this function is
switched off when the headlamps
would switch on in automatic mode,
the lights remain on.
It is however possible to disarm this
function and switch off the lights by:
manually switching off the lights using the lights stalk,
switching off the engine.

If the brightness sensor does not
function correctly, the system acti
vates the function (the lights come
on).The driver is alerted by the flash
ing of the ''dipped beam'' warning
light on the instrument panel.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked.
Follow me Home
When there is a low level of bright
ness or at night, if you leave your
vehicle, the side lights and the
dipped beam lights may remain on
for approximately one minute.
To do this: place the lights stalk in the AUTO
position,
 place the key in the accessories
position (first notch),
 press the end of the lights stalk for
more than two seconds,
 place the lights stalk in the 0posi
tion,
 flash the headlamps,
 get out of the car and lock it.

Press one of the spokes or
the centre of the steering
wheel.
Adjusting the headlamps
Depending on the load in your vehi
cle, adjusting the beam of the head
lamps is recommended as follows.0 1 or 2 people in the front seats.
– 3 people.
1 5 people.
2 5 people + maximum
authorised load.
3 Driver + maximum
authorised load.
Initial setting is position 0. Hazard warning lights
Press the button, the direction indi
cators flash.
They can operate with the ignition
off.
STEERING WHEEL HEIGHT
AND DEPTH ADJUSTMENT
When the vehicle is stationary,
unlock the steering wheel by pulling
handle
A.
Adjust the height and depth of the
steering wheel, then lock it by push
ing handle Adown fully.

Automatic lighting of hazard
warning lights*
When braking in an emergency,
depending on the force of decelera
tion, the hazard warning lights come
on automatically. They switch off
automatically the first time you accel
erate.
It is also possible to switch them off
by pressing the button.* According to destination.

Automatic operation
Automatic changing of thefour
gears :
 Select function Din the gate.
The gearbox always selects the
most suitable gear on the basis of
the following parameters:
– driving style,
– road characteristics,
– the vehicle's load.
The gearbox operates in autoadap
tive mode without any action on
your part.
Moving off
With the engine running, to move off
with the selector lever in position
P:
 It is essential to press the brake
pedal to exit position P (shift
lock),
 Select the required function (R, D,
3 , 2 or 1)then gradually release
the pressure on the brake pedal;
the vehicle will move off
immediately.
You can also move off with the
selector lever in position N:
 Release the handbrake with your
foot on the brake,
 Select the required function (R,D ,
3 , 2 or 1)then gradually release
the pressure on the brake pedal;
the vehicle will move off
immediately.

When the engine is idling,
with the brakes not
applied, if function R,D, 3,
2 or 1is selected, the
vehicle will move even if you are
not accelerating.
For this reason, do not leave
children unsupervised inside
the vehicle, when the engine is
running.
When maintenance operations
need to be carried out with the
engine running, apply the hand
brake and select function P.
Never select function Nwhen the
vehicle is moving.
Never select functions Por R
unless the vehicle is stationary.
Do not change from one position
to another to improve braking effi
ciency on a slippery surface.
With the selector lever in position
P, it will be impossible to change
to another position if your battery
is flat.
Remarks
To obtain maximum acceleration
without touching the gear lever,
press the accelerator pedal down as
far as it will go (kickdown). The gear
box will change down automatically
or stay in the gear selected, up to
maximum engine speed.
When braking, the gearbox changes
down automatically so as to provide
efficient engine braking.
If you take your foot off the accelera
tor suddenly, the gearbox will not
change up, so as to improve safety.

Sport and Snow programmes
In addition to the autoadaptive pro
gramme, you have a choice of two
specific programmes. The pro
gramme selected is displayed on the
instrument panel.
Sport Programme Press button S, once the vehicle
has started and function D has
been selected.
The gearbox automatically favours
dynamic driving.
Snow programme
This programme favours starting
operations and drive to improve
traction.  Press button , once the vehicle
has started and function Dhas
been selected.
The gearbox adapts to driving on
slippery roads.
Note: you can return to the auto
adaptive programme at any time.  Press button Sor again to
cancel the programme selected. Difficulties in operation
Any disruption of the system is sig
nalled by the alternate flashing of the
Sport and Snow lights on the instru
ment panel.
In this case, the gearbox will operate
in downgrade mode (locked in 3rd
gear). You may feel a substantial
knock when reverse is selected fromP
to Ror from Nto R (without any
risk of damage to the gearbox). Do
not exceed 60 m.p.h. (100 km/h),
speed restrictions permitting.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without
delay.
MANUAL GEARBOX
Reverse
To change to reverse gear, lift the
ring under the gear lever knob and
push the gear lever to the left then to
the front.
Reverse gear can only be
engaged when the vehicle is sta
tionary with the engine idling.

CRUISE CONTROL
Cruise control enables the vehicle to
maintain a steady speed pro
grammed by the driver, regardless of
the road characteristics and without
the driver having to touch the accel
erator or brake pedals.
In order for it to be memorised, the
vehicle speed must be greater than
approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) and
fourth or fifth gear must be engaged.
Operation Place switch 1 in the ON position.
A speed can be memorised. Place switch 1 in the OFF position
to cancel.
Memorising a speed
As soon as you reach the chosen
speed, press button 2or 3. This
memorises the speed, which will be
maintained automatically.
Note: It is possible to accelerate
momentarily without disarming the
cruise control. Cancelling the memorised
speed
If you wish to cancel the memorised
speed: 
Press button 4or the brake or
clutch pedal.
Recalling the memorised
speed
After cancellation, press button 4.
Your vehicle will return to the last
memorised speed.
Changing a memorised speed
To memorise a speed higher than
the previous one:  press button 3;
 release it when you have reached
the required speed.
To memorise a speed lower than the
previous one:  press button 2;
 release it when you have reached
the required speed.
Cancelling the cruise control  place switch 1in the OFFposition
or switch off the ignition.

Do not use cruise control
on slippery roads or in
heavy traffic. THE ABS
ANTILOCK
BRAKING SYSTEM
When used with approved tyres in
good condition, the ABS increases
the stability and manoeuvrability of
your vehicle, particularly on poor or
slippery road surfaces.
The antilock braking system comes
into operation automatically when
there is a risk of wheel lock.
EMERGENCY BRAKING
ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
In an emergency, this system
enables the optimum braking pres
sure to be reached more quickly,
thus reducing the stopping distance.
It is triggered according to the speed
of activation of the brake pedal. The
effect of this is a reduction in the
resistance of the pedal and an
increase in braking efficiency. The normal operation of the ABS
may make itself felt by slight
vibrations of the brake pedal.
In emergency braking, press
very firmly without releasing
the pressure.

Puncture
Insulated storage compartment
This is located in the boot and con
tains:
the temporary tyre repair cans 1
(your 406 LPG does not have a
spare wheel),
the adaptors 2 necessary for
filling the LPG tank in some
countries,
the towing eye 3.
Fuses
The LPG functions are protected
by the two fuses Ain the fuse box
located in the engine compartment.
Using the repair cans
(Refer to the directions on the cans
also)
if possible, remove the object
which caused the puncture,
rotate the wheel so that the valve is in the same position as the
figures 2 or 10 on a clock,
shake the cans vigorously before use. In very cold weather, warm
the cans between your hands for
few minutes,
hold the valve with one hand and with the other press the injection
nozzle on the can firmly onto the
valve, holding it straight,
maintain the pressure firmly for one minute, carry out the same operation with
the second can, then drive imme
diately, at a moderate speed , to
the nearest garage.
The cans enable you to carry out
a temporary repair.
After use, the tyre must be
changed.
As the cans are pressurized, they
must not be exposed to a temper
ature above 50°C.
Store them away from heat in the
insulated storage compartment.
