Windscreen and headlamp wash
Pull the wiper stalk towards you. The windscreen wash, then the wind-screen wipers, operate for a specifiedtime. The windscreen and the headlamp
wash operate simultaneously for twoseconds,
only if the dipped beam
lights or the headlamps areswitched on.
Operation In position
1or 2, when the vehicle
stops, the windscreen wiper changes to a lower wiping speed, then resumesits initial speed when the vehicle startsagain. In the Intermittent position, the wiping
speed is proportional to the speed of the vehicle.
In the AUTO position, the wiping
speed is proportional to the heaviness of the rain fall.
When the ignition has been switched off for more than oneminute with the stalk in the wipeposition, it is necesary to reactivatethis function. To do this, move the
stalk to any position, then move it backto the required position.

When using an automatic car wash, switch off theignition or check that thewiper stalk is not in the
automatic position. In winter it is advisable to wait for thewindscreen to completely clear of icebefore operating the automatic wipe.
Automatic timed windscreenwipers In the
AUTO position, the windscreen
wipers operate automatically and adapt their speed to the intensity ofthe rainfall. Operating checkActivation When the function is activated, the message "Automatic windscreen
wiping active" appears on the multi-
function display. In the event of malfunction , the dri-
ver is informed by an audible signal and the message "Auto windscreen
wiper faulty" on the multifunction
display. In the event of malfunction in the
AUTO position, the windscreen wiper
will operate in intermittent mode.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system checked.

Range The display shows the distance that can still be covered with the fuelremaining in the tank. Note:
this figure may rise if there is
a change in driving style or road sur- face, causing a significant drop incurrent fuel consumption. If there are less than 3 litres of fuel in the tank, only three segments willbe displayed.
Current fuel consumption This gives the fuel consumption recorded during the last two sec-
onds. This function is only dislpayedwhen the vehicle is travelling atmore than 12 m.p.h. (20 km/h). Average consumption This is the ratio between the amount of fuel consumed and the distancetravelled since the computer waslast reset to zero.
Average speed This is obtained by dividing the dis- tance travelled by the period of timethe vehicle has been in use (with theignition on), since the computer waslast reset to zero. Distance travelled This shows the distance travelled since the computer was last reset tozero. After the trip computer has been reset to zero, the range data becomesmeaningful only after the vehicle hasbeen in use for a certain period. If horizontal segments are displayed instead of figures when driving, contact
a PEUGEOT dealer.

ELECTRIC WINDOWS
1. DriverÕs electric window switch.
2. PassengerÕs electric window
switch.
Each switch controls, on its own side, the front window and the rear quarter
panel window. Manual operation Press the switch (to open) or pull it (to close) without going beyond thepoint of resistance. The window stops when the switch is released. The rear quarter panel window can only be opened when the front win-dow is completely open, after aninactive period of one second. Automatic operation
Opening
The windows open automatically (when the ignition key is in the ÔonÕposition, with the engine running orthe vehicle moving). Press the switch past the point of resistance:
Ð Press briefly to completely open the front window; press brieflyagain to completely open the
rear quarter panel window,
Ð Sustained pressure opens the front window, then the rear
quarter panel, completely.
Closing
Only the front window on the driverÕs side closes automatically (enginerunning or vehicle moving), when therear quarter panel is closed. Briefly pull the switch past the point of resistance to completely
close the driverÕs front window.

Manual interior mirror The interior mirror has two positions:
Ð day (normal),
Ð night (anti-dazzle).
To change from one to the other, push or pull the lever on the lower edge of
the mirror. ELECTRIC EXTERIOR MIRRORS
Turn knob
1to the right or to the left to
select the corresponding mirror. Move knob 1in all four directions to
adjust. Fold-back electric mirrors With the ignition on, turn knob 1to
position A.
The outside of the mirror on the driver's side is con-vex (area at edge definedby dotted line) in order to
eliminate the 'blind spot'. Furthermore, objects in the driver's and passenger's mirrors are in
reality closer than they appear. This must be taken into account to judge correctly the distance ofvehicles approaching from behind.

TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)
AND DYNAMIC STABILITY CON-
TROL (ESP) These systems are linked and comple-
ment the ABS.
The ASR system optimises drive to prevent the wheels skidding, by actingon the brakes of the drive wheels andon the engine. It also allows the direc-tional stability of the vehicle to beimproved on acceleration. If there is a variation between the tra- jectory followed by the vehicle and that
required by the driver, the ESP systemautomatically acts on the engine andthe brake of one or more wheels, inorder to put the vehicle back oncourse.Disarming the ASR/ESP systems In exceptional conditions (starting a vehicle which is bogged down, stuck in
snow, on soft ground), it may be advis-
able to disarm the ASR and ESP sys-tems, so that the wheels can movefreely and regain grip.
Press the "ESP OFF" switch, locat-
ed under the steering wheel to the left.
The switch lights up and thewarning light comes on: the
ASR and ESP systems no
longer have any effect on theengine operation.
These are triggered again: automatically if the ignition is
switched off,
automatically above 50 km/h,
manually by pressing the switchagain.
Operation of the ASR and ESPsystems
When one of these two sys-tems is operating, this lightflashes. Operating check
When a malfunction of the sys-tems occurs, the switch lightflashes and the warning lightcomes on, accompanied by anaudible signal and the mes-
sage "ESP/ASR system not opera-
tional" on the multifunction display.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to havethe system checked.
The ESP system offersexceptional safety in normaldriving, but this should notencourage the driver to takeextra risks or drive at high
speed. The correct functioning of this sys- tem depends on observation of themanufacturer's recommendationsregarding wheels (tyres and rims),the braking components and theelectronic components, as well asthe PEUGEOT assembly and opera-tion procedures. After an impact, have the system
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

FRONT AIR BAGS
These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in the
fascia for the front passenger. They are
deployed simultaneously, except in caseswhere the passenger air bag is disarmed.
Front air bag fault If this warning light comes on, accompanied by an audiblesignal and the message
"Air
bag fault" on the multifunction dis-
play, contact a PEUGEOT dealer tohave the system checked.
AIR BAGS The air bags have been designed to maximise the safety of the occupantsin the event of serious collisions. They work in conjunction with theforce-limiting seat belts. The electronic detectors register and analyse any abrupt deceleration ofthe vehicle: if the triggering thresholdis reached, the air bags inflate instant-ly and protect the occupants of thevehicle. Immediately after the impact, the air bags deflate rapidly so that they do nothinder the visibility of the occupantsnor their exit if necessary from thevehicle. The air bags are not deployed in the case of collisions which are not seri-
ous, for which the seat belt is sufficient
to ensure maximum protection. Theseriousness of a collision depends onthe nature of the obstacle and thespeed of the vehicle at the moment ofthe collision. Air bags only operate when the ignition is switched on. Note:
the gas escaping from the air
bags can be a minor irritant. Disarming the passenger air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the passengerair bag when you install a rear-facingchild seat on the front passengerseat.
With the ignition switched off, insert the key into the passenger air bagdisarming switch 1, turn it to the
"OFF" position, then remove the
key keeping the slot in this position.
The air bag warning light on
the instrument panel is litthroughout the disarmingprocess.
* According to destination.
