ENGINE STOP SWITCH
The engine stop switch 1 is located on the left
handlebar. Continue pushing the engine stop
switch till the engine comes to a stop.

CLUTCH LEVER
The clutch lever 1 is located on the left han-
dlebar; it disengages or engages the clutch.
Pull the clutch lever to the handlebar to disen-
gage the clutch, and release the lever to
engage the clutch. The lever should be pulled
rapidly and released slowly for smooth starts.

SHIFT PEDAL
The gear ratios of the constant-mesh 5 speed
transmission are ideally spaced. The gears
can be shifted by using the shift pedal 1 on
the left side of the engine.
KICKSTARTER CRANK
WARNING
Before starting the engine, be sure to shift
the transmission into neutral.
Rotate the kickstarter crank 1 away from the
engine. Push the starter down lightly with your
foot until the gears engage, then kick smoothly
and forcefully to start the engine.

The throttle grip 1 is located on the right han-
dlebar; it accelerates or decelerates the
engine. For acceleration, turn the grip toward
you; for deceleration, turn it away from you.

CAUTION:
Before starting the machine, perform the
checks in the pre-operation check list.
WARNING
Never start or run the engine in a closed
area. The exhaust fumes are poisonous;
they can cause loss of consciousness and
death in a very short time. Always operate
the machine in a well-ventilated area.
STARTING A COLD ENGINE
1. Shift the transmission into neutral.
2. Turn the fuel cock to “ON” and full open
the starter knob (CHOKE).
3. With the throttle completely closed start
the engine by kicking the kickstarter
crank forcefully with firm stroke.
4. Run the engine at idle or slightly higher
until it warms up: this usually takes about
one or two minutes.
5. The engine is warmed up when it
responds normally to the throttle with the
starter knob (CHOKE) turned off.
CAUTION:
Do not warm up the engine for extended
periods.

Open the throttle slightly and start the engine
by kicking the kickstater forcefully with firm

BREAK-IN
Break-in is important to better fit the moving
and sliding parts as well as the installed parts.
It is also important to accustom the rider to the
machine better.
Avoid full-throttle run on a new machine for the
first 5 hours.
After the trial run, check for loose parts, oil
leakage and other problems.
Make full inspection and adjustment especially
of slack cables and drive chain and loose
spokes.
CAUTION:
After the break-in or before each ride, you
must check the entire machine for loose fit-
tings and fasteners as per “TORQUE-
CHECK POINTS”.
Tighten all such fasteners as required.
BREAKING IN AFTER REPLACEMENT
After a part is replaced with a new one, it is
necessary to break it in as in a new machine.
This is required especially when the following
engine-related parts are replaced.

Frequent cleaning of your machine will
enhance its appearance, maintain good over-
all performance, and extend the life of many
components.
1. Before washing the machine, block off
the end of the exhaust pipe to prevent
water from entering. A plastic bag
secured with a rubber band may be used
for this purpose.
2. If the engine is excessively greasy, apply
some degreaser to it with a paint brush.
Do not apply degreaser to the chain,
sprockets, or wheel axles.
3. Rinse the dirt and degreaser off with a
garden hose; use only enough pressure
to do the job.
CAUTION:
Excessive hose pressure may cause water
seepage and contamination of wheel bear-
ings, front forks, brakes and transmission
seals. Many expensive repair bills have
resulted from improper high pressure
detergent applications such as those avail-
able in coin-operated car washers.
4. After the majority of the dirt has been
hosed off, wash all surfaces with warm
water and a mild detergent. Use an old
toothbrush to clean hard-to-reach places.
5. Rinse the machine off immediately with
clean water, and dry all surfaces with a
soft towel or cloth.
6. Immediately after washing, remove
excess water from the chain with a paper
towel and lubricate the chain to prevent
rust.
7. Clean the seat with a vinyl upholstery
cleaner to keep the cover pliable and
glossy.
8. Automotive wax may be applied to all
painted or chromed surfaces. Avoid com-
bination cleaner-waxes, as they may con-
tain abrasives.
9. After completing the above, start the
engine and allow it to idle for several min-
utes.

REINIGUNG
Eine regelmäßige, gründliche Wäsche sorgt
nicht nur für gutes Aussehen, sondern verbes-
sert auch das allgemeine Betriebsverhalten,
reduziert Verschleiß und bewirkt somit eine län-
gere Lebensdauer und besseren Werterhalt.
1. Vor der Wäsche eine Plastiktüte über die
Schalldämpferöffnung stülpen und mit
einem Gummiband sichern, damit kein
Wasser eindringen kann.
2. Bei stark veröltem Motor mit einem Pin-
sel Kaltreiniger auftragen. Jedoch keinen
Kaltreiniger auf Antriebskette, Kettenrä-
der und Radachsen bringen.
3. Schmutz und Kaltreiniger mit einem Was-
serschlauch gründlich abspülen. Dabei
den Wasserdruck möglichst gering halten.
ACHTUNG:
Durch zu hohen Wasserdruck können Was-
ser und Verunreinigungen in Radlager, Tele-
skopgabel, Schwingenlager, Bremsen,
Getriebedichtungen und elektrische Kom-
ponenten eindringen. Viele teure Reparatu-
ren sind die Folge falscher Anwendung von
Hochdruckreinigern (Dampfstrahler), wie sie
z. B. bei Münzwaschanlagen zu finden sind.
4. Nach dem Abspülen des groben Schmut-
zes alle Oberflächen mit warmem Wasser
und einem milden Reinigungsmittel abwa-
schen. Schwer zugängliche Stellen lassen
sich am besten mit einer alten Zahnbürste
oder einer Flaschenbürste reinigen.
5. Unmittelbar danach das Fahrzeug mit sau-
berem Wasser abspülen und mit einem
Waschleder, sauberen Tuch oder weichen,
saugfähigen Lappen abtrocknen.
6. Die Kette trocknen und sofort schmieren,
um Korrosion zu verhindern.
7. Die Sitzbank mit einem Reiniger für
Vinylpolster abwischen, damit der Bezug
geschmeidig und glänzend bleibt.
8. Lack- und Chromflächen können mit
Autowachs poliert werden. Kombinierte
Reiniger und Polituren sind zu vermei-
den, da sie oft Scheuermittel enthalten,
die den Lack auf Tank und Verkleidungs-
teilen beschädigen würden.
9. Nach der Wäsche den Motor anlassen
und warmlaufen lassen.

NETTOYAGE
Il est conseillé de nettoyer le véhicule à fond aussi
souvent que possible, non seulement pour des raisons
esthétiques, mais aussi parce que ces nettoyages con-
tribuent à améliorer ses performances tout en prolon-
geant la durée de service de nombreuses pièces.
1. Avant de nettoyer la machine, couvrir la sor-
tie du tuyau d’échappement pour éviter toute
infiltration d’eau. Un sachet en plastique ainsi
qu’un fort élastique feront l’affaire.
2. Si le bloc-moteur est excessivement grais-
seux, appliquer du dégraissant à l’aide d’un
pinceau. Ne pas mettre de dégraissant sur la
chaîne, les pignons ou les axes de roue.
3. Éliminer la saleté et le dégraissant au tuyau
d’arrosage. Veiller à employer juste la pres-
sion d’eau nécessaire pour effectuer ce travail.
ATTENTION:
Une pression excessive risque de causer des infil-
trations d’eau dans les roulements de roue, les
bras de fourche avant, les joints du circuit de
frein et de la transmission. L’emploi abusif de
détergents sous forte pression, tels que ceux uti-
lisés dans les portiques de lavage automatique,
est nuisible au véhicule et peut entraîner des
réparations onéreuses.
4. Après avoir éliminé le plus gros de la saleté
au tuyau d’arrosage, laver toutes les surfaces
à l’eau chaude savonneuse (employer un
détergent doux). Une vieille brosse à dents ou
un rince-bouteilles conviennent parfaitement
pour nettoyer les parties difficiles d’accès.
5. Rincer immédiatement la machine à l’eau
propre et sécher toutes les surfaces à l’aide
d’une peau de chamois, d’une serviette ou
d’un chiffon doux absorbant.
6. Sécher immédiatement la chaîne et la graisser
afin de la protéger contre la rouille.
7. Nettoyer la selle à l’aide d’un produit de net-
toyage pour similicuir afin de conserver
intacts la souplesse et le lustre de la housse.
8. De la cire pour automobile peut être utilisée
pour toutes les surfaces peintes et chromées.
Ne pas employer de cires détergentes, car
elles contiennent souvent des abrasifs.
9. Lorsque le nettoyage est terminé, mettre le
moteur en marche et le laisser tourner au
ralenti pendant plusieurs minutes.
